Glossary

Jorune is set millennia in Earth's future, on a distant world populated by many alien races. As such, there are a lot of different terms that are used in the game. Though I will try to minimize reliance on the lingo, some of the terms will make their way into the game. This is a glossary of those terms.

Ardoth: capital city of the nation of Burdoth; rumored to be one of the original human colony sites.
Ardothian Council: The political body that administrates Ardoth and somewhat balances the rule of the dharsage.
beaster: an animal enthusiast; could be a trainer, wrangler, exotic pet dealer, zookeeper
boccord: physically enhanced humans, genetically distinct from other Earth descendants
bronth: large, bipedal sentient bear people.
Burdoth: cosmopolitan nation ruled by dharsage Khodre Dhardrenn.
caji: a formal title for someone who has learned to weave the crystal energy (isho) of Jorune to good effect; an isho master/teacher.
challisk: a piece of hull plate from one of the ancient colony ships, which is worn by a citizenship applicants (tauther) as a badge and also a slate which patron citizens (Drenn) mark to show their support of the tauther.
cleash: sentient alien bipeds with four arms and large mandibles; highly distrusted/feared by most everyone; their motivations are inscrutable
condrij: a sword-for-hire, mercenary, bodyguard.
copra: a mark of recommendation from a Burdothian Drenn for a tauther.
corondon: a giant monster native to Jorune. None of you have ever seen one, but you do know that the corondon's claws are used to make "hardswords," curved scimitars with 6' blades wielded by the shantha.
crugar: aggressive, athletic, sentient mountain lion people, who can function equally well as quadrupeds and bipeds. Many can perform lightning blast (a dysha).
dhar: "great"
dharsage: "great wise and learned one" - an honorific that was created for the current Burdothian monarch's father, Khodre Allonkarb, who united the country despite war and invasion, and effectively became emperor. The title "dharsage" is now applied to any human monarch in any nation.
Drenn: full citizens of the nation of Burdoth, with influence, power, and prestige, especially in the capitol city of Ardoth.
durlig: a native plant that helps Earth creatures generate enzymes needed to break down Jorune food; tastes foul.
dysha: a manipulation of Jorune's crystal energy (isho) to create an effect. Examples: lightning blast, power hold
dyte punk: muadra member of a street gang; hoodlum with ability to do small things with crystal energy (isho)
entris: a professional translator or linguist. Very high demand for these, as there are so many races and distinct languages
githerin: a professional acquirer; a licensed thief
human: descendant of Earth colonists stranded on Jorune in ancient times (more than 3500 years ago).
illidge: a combination of restaurant and hotel; an inn.
Iscin: mythological Creator figure responsible for creating crugar, woffen and bronth. Also, any student of ancient Earth science.
isho: crystal energy flowing through Jorune, which can be sensed and/or shaped to perform various effects (dyshas)
jer: a jungle runner/explorer trained to navigate through the untamed Trinnu regions of jungle claimed by no nation
kern: to expel all isho. Burdothian suspicion and paranoia around muadra (particularly after the Maustin Caji nearly destroyed Ardoth) resulted in the requirement that all caji kern before entering any government building.
kerning bay: a fortified area surrounded by thick stone walls which muadra use to expel all their isho while in a city. While they were created to reduce the threat of muadra caji as a place where they expel all their isho, in practice kerning bays have also become isho learning centers, where muadra freely train, practice and learn dyshas.
Kesht: Burdothian nobility; elevated citizens (Drenn) who are leaders, power-brokers, industrialists, nation-builders.
kim: a trade organization, union, or guild. Sometimes kims are associated with a particular region, and so have some political power as representatives for that district or zone.
learsis: a healer/medic/doctor trained in first aid, medicine, and often even crystal energy (isho) used for healing
muadra: physically small humans, with innate ability to manipulate the crystal energy of Jorune (isho) for many effects (dyshas).
querrid: a professional information gatherer/researcher. Got a question? Pay a querrid to find the answer.
shadow warrior: a master of woodcraft and a devotee to the martial art from the Burdothian forest region of Glounda.
shast: a professional host; innkeeper, bartender, waiter
sherja: a warrior from the gladiator pits in the city of Auklin, trained in all weapons, but particularly bladed gauntlets (thikes)
tauther: a commoner (toth) who has started the application to become a Burdothian citizen (Drenn)
thikes: bladed gauntlets strapped to the hands of gladiators for brutal combat in the city of Auklin.
thombo: a large, bipedal saurian riding creature shaped roughly like a gourd, or an Earth carnosaur with a stumpy tail. Thombos have large rear legs and thick, stumpy tails that allow them to run at significant speeds. They have tiny, almost vestigial arms which they use to hold food while their long necks snake around to feed. Thombos have the temperament and intellect of chickens, so they are easily distracted and hard to control. This makes them useless in battle, so most cavalry units use thombos to maneuver quickly on the battlefield, then dismount to fight. Afterward, they have to chase the thombos down to ride them again if they weren't tied down.
thomboc: flamboyant, extroverted rider and/or breeder of the most common riding animal on Jorune (the thombo).
thriddle: sentient alien bipeds with small arms and large eye stalks. They augment their communication with pheromones emitted by their "trid-nodes," which smell putrid to PC races. Thriddle are indispensable for their organization and memory, and are employed as clerks, administrators and record keepers throughout Jorune.
Toth: a commoner or foreigner - not a citizen
tothis: the process of a commoner (toth) applying to become a Burdothian citizen (Drenn), during which the toth is known as "tauther." Tothis requires getting the support of existing Drenn, as indicated by patron Drenn marking the tauther's badge (challisk).
woffen: social, bipedal, sentient wolf people with a congenital weakness for drink. Many can perform power hold (a dysha).
yiordeh: a detective or private investigator; something between a bounty hunter and a researcher (querrid)
yord: a city guard; a cop
