Character generation details, part 3

After you've determined your initial characteristics (part 1) and chosen a race to play (part 2), part 3 of character generation is choosing an occupation.

Occupations have prerequisites; you must meet all the prerequisites to take that occupation. You must have an EDUCATION equal to or greater than the cost of the occupation to have that occupation. Each occupation comes with a number of skills that you get for taking that occupation, and some may provide additional points to increase your characteristics and/or skills. If you are interested in a particular occupation, the GM will tell you the values of the skills that you get.

Choose one, or roll 3d8 to determine your occupation randomly (reroll if you don’t meet the prerequisites). Once you choose your occupation, the GM will provide the list and ranks of all the skills you receive as part of that occupation. Some occupations list "bonuses" under the description. Bonus characteristic points are points you can use to increase any of your 12 characteristics (your choice). Bonus skill points are points you can use to increase any of the skills you receive as part of that occupation.

Note 1: Your EDUCATION characteristic is important here, and in the later step of choosing additional skills. For that later step (step five), you will subtract your occupation's cost from your EDUCATION and use the result to buy/improve any skill you want.

Note 2: That said, if your EDUCATION is high enough, you can choose to follow a second occupation. This reduces the points available in step five for buying/improving any skills, but it does get you an additional set of skills for that occupation.

3 - Beaster
Prerequisites: Education cost: 8, minimum Color: 10, minimum Speed, Strength, and Agility: 12
Description: animal trainers, wranglers, handlers, and/or catchers
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 3 skill points

4 - Burdothian military
Prerequisites: Education cost: 8, minimum Constitution and Strength: 12, minimum agility and Speed: 10
Description: a soldier in one branch of the Burdothian military
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 3 skill points

5 - Caji
Prerequisites: muadra race, Education cost: 7, minimum Color and Isho: 14, minimum Aim and Learn: 10
Description: a muadra trained to manipulate isho, master of dyshas
Bonus: 1 characteristic point

6 - Condrij
Prerequisites: Education cost: 9, minimum Strength: 13, minimum Constitution: 12, minimum Agility: 11
Description: a mercenary fighter
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 2 skill points

7 - Dyte Punk
Prerequisites: muadra race, Education cost: 5, Max social: 8, minimum ISHO: 11, minimum COLOR: 10
Description: a muadra street tough, gang member, has picked up a few dyshas
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 3 skill points

8 - Entris
Prerequisites: Education cost: 11, minimum Education and Learn: 10, minimum Social: 12
Description: a polyglot translator
Bonus: 1 characteristic point, 2 skill points

9 - Ex-militia
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6, minimum Strength, Agility, Constitution, and Speed: 10
Description: You did required service in the militia, rather than service in the formal military
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 3 skill points

10 - Githerin
Prerequisites: Education cost: 8, minimum Agility: 12
Description: a licensed thief, acquirer of rare and/or illicit items
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 2 skill points

11 - Gloundan Shadow Warrior
Prerequisites: Education cost: 10, minimum strength: 13, minimum agility and spot: 12, minimum constitution: 11
Description: a woodland warrior trained in stealthy armed and unarmed combat
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 2 skill points

12 - Iscin (classical)
Prerequisites: Education cost: 10, minimum Education: 15, minimum Learn: 14
Description: any sort of scholar or laboratory academic, though usually one focused on science or mathematics
No bonus points

13 - Iscin (outdoor)
Prerequisites: Education cost: 12, minimum Education and Learn: 14, minimum Constitution: 13
Description: a field researcher: botanist, zoologist, naturalist, anthropologist, xenobiologist, etc.
No bonus points

14 - Jer
Prerequisites: Education cost: 9, minimum Strength, Speed, Spot, and Listen: 13
Description: a runner/hunter, specializing in hunting and retrieving items in the jungle
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 2 skill points

15 - Learsis
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6, minimum Education and Learn: 12, minimum Social: 10
Description: a healer/nurse/doctor
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 2 skill points

16 - Merchant
Prerequisites: Education cost: 5, minimum Social: 12, Minimum Listen and Spot: 10
Description: A shopkeeper, importer/exporter, flim-flam man, etc.
Bonus: 2 skill points

17 - Querrid
Prerequisites: Education cost: 7, minimum Education: 10
Description: a sentient search engine: you research answers to questions and find information for a price
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 2 skill points

18 - Sailor
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6
Description: any sort of person who makes his or her living from ocean-going or wind-borne vessels
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 1 skill point

19 - Shast
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6, minimum Social: 13, minimum Listen and Spot: 10
Description: bartender/waiter/host/hostess, usually proprietor of employee of an inclep (bar, tavern and/or inn)
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 1 skill point

20 - Sherja
Prerequisites: Education cost: 8, minimum speed, strength, agility and constitution: 13
Description: a gladiator trained in all combat, but particularly in the use of thikes (bladed gauntlets)
Bonus: 3 characteristic points, 3 skill points

21 - Thomboc
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6
Description: wrangler/trainer/breeder of thombos (most common Jorune native riding animal; a bit like a featherless ostrich); essentially a cowboy.
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 1 skill point

22 - Toth (City or Country)
Prerequisites: Education cost: 3, Country toth require minimum Strength: 10
Description: peasant farmer or day laborer
No bonuses

23 - Yiordeh
Prerequisites: Education cost: 10, minimum Spot: 13
Description: private detective
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 1 skill point

24 - Yord
Prerequisites: Education cost: 6, minimum Strength: 13, minimum Agility: 12
Description: city guard/cop
Bonus: 2 characteristic points, 1 skill point
