Here’s a bunch of info regarding character backgrounds, please read everything and fill out your sheet according to these guidelines. If there are any questions ask away. Remember: have fun when creating your character, this campaign will not be nitty gritty so sillier characters are generally fine.
Personality Traits: Please include the standard traits/Ideal/bond/flaw on your character sheet as a means of quick reference for character personality.
Backstory: The most important detail to consider is what your character did to land in trouble against the Galifer code of justice. Did they steal from the wrong person? Are they a deserter? Perhaps a harmless prank went a little too far. There are no requirements to have any prior association with the city. However, whatever crime they may have committed should be within Breland. Alternatively the wrongdoing can be against house Tharashk directly if you want it to be elsewhere in Khorvaire. Whether they spent any time in prison or were offered a proposal immediately is up to you.
Another aspect to consider is their involvement with the war. Whether they were involved or not, it created a devastating effect when the mourning destroyed Cyre. Do they have any family or were otherwise directly affected by this disaster?
One last thing is Eberron doesn’t have fixed alignments, morally grey characters are to be expected. They should be willing to cooperate with their teammates and not become murder hobos. In this regard I HIGHLY recommend regularly communicating with each other to decide on a course action while still playing up a character’s hesitations or whatnot.
Dragonmarks & The Houses: Do you want a dragonmark? Perhaps curious to try an aberrant one? Sounds good to me, even if you want the racial bonus instead of those given with a dragonmark. Just flavor it to be relevant to your character/class (I had a paladin who used her mark to channel smites for example). If you do go down this path consider how the house you were part of sees your imprisonment. Do they know? Are you even apart of a house?
Adventure Start: Your characters will be working as "independent agents" (aren’t publicly acknowledged as affiliates) for house Tharashk, primarily as bounty hunters and investigators. When the adventure begins everyone will be riding the lightning rail from Wroat to Sharn, having accepted this offer. Sharn is teeming with crime and mystery, it’s your job to handle some of the more eccentric cases. First objective is to meet your contact at a lovely little restaurant "The Burning Heart" located on the central plateau in the middle city.
Player Connections: I would like everyone to have some dealings with at least one other PC whether its business, pleasure, or anything in between. You all want to be members of the same military squad or perhaps a prior gang? Go for it. We can have some session 0 backstory to further flesh anything out if that is of interest.
Theme Song: I quite enjoy using music to highlight a scene or character, or sometimes just to add some mood music. In another game I GM everyone picked a song for their character to serve as "theme music" as if they were in a montage. Any genre of music is acceptable, and you can make it reflect your character as much or little as you’d like.
