Hraefn looked up at the rest of the gathering, mindful that not everyone might find his investigation fruitful or worth pursuing. He decided on one last question in order to fill everyone in on his findings, before abiding by the direction that the rest might want to take.

"What kind of place is the cave you were in?" Besides the travellers, what other creatures are there inside?" Hraefn didn't expect an encyclopaedic account, but any inkling would help.

And with that, the plant-speaking man returned to the main table, and waited for someone else to take the lead. Sitting next to Etna, he followed up on the question she had asked about his magic. "The Old Faith believes that the things around us all have their own magic. I merely listen to what they have to say. Is that true of you as well, Etna?"
Nov 20, 2018 4:16 pm
As you all watch, Hraefn bends to formulate his final query before the magic fades from him. Slowly, he rises back up, facing you all.

Cædwyn pulls on his riding gloves, "We should be off while there is still plenty of daylight. I'm not sure I would trust anything that pile of twigs would have to tell us anyway." Addressing the Duke he says, "Might I suggest that your Grace have that thing burned? We have no idea what it is or how it spreads after all." And with that he bows to the Duke and makes his way to the chamber doors.

If no one cares, I'd like a piece of this thing. A momento, if you will.

If no one stops me, I will pull out a dagger and cut off a piece.
Nov 20, 2018 4:48 pm
Cædwyn doesn't stop him, but grunts and says, Hrmph, don't blame me for hacking you to pieces when you turn into a plant monster then.
Nov 20, 2018 10:03 pm
Bram furls his brow and frowns at Merri but turns to the Duke, bows and says, "We will do out best to solve this mystery, your grace." He then pivots on his heel and steps to the door with Caedwyn.

Hraefn left his wooden token on the body, to be disposed of on a pyre or by whatever means deemed fit, as a sign of respect. Turning to the company, he summarises for them what he had uncovered.

"The cave we are going to is also not quite a cave. It is occupied by a group of beings the plants refer to as the travellers, who have been there for a long time, and are responsible for creating this strange plant-being. Apparently they feed, grow and consume various things. Finally, there are alive things, as well as not-alive things present. And then to Caedwyn, "It is true the plants I spoke to have only a very limited understanding of what they might have perceived. But we may yet be surprised at how much they know."

Already uncomfortable with having spoken the most of all thus far, Hraefn retreated back into silence.

Duke Owen stands, grabbing his goblet and raising it salute to you all. "To your health, to your success, and most importantly, to Geoff!" he decries loudly as he flicks his hand to the attendant near the corpse. In an instant, the thing is gone from sight, the door closing behind it with a reverberating 'thud'.

"Cormyr will take you to where you may supply yourselves. Equipment as requested will be provided, but I ask that you do make all haste. Travel to Fort Nurock will take you fully a week, followed by nearly another to reach Thunderhead. From there your final leg will bring you to the site of the cave." the duke says as you all look to depart.

"I shall be sending a contingent of men with you that you may pitch your camp outside of the caves without fear of losing your provisions. They have been instructed to wait a reasonable amount of time for your return. May Istus ever guide your paths." he says in a softer tone as you all depart.
OOC:
Although I am advancing the thread, feel free to back track with any comments and/or questions for the duke, each other, etc.
Leaving you to his court mage, Cormyr, the duke exits the chamber. You are led through a winding path within the castle until you find yourselves exiting the rear by the stables. Here, a pair of wagons laden with provisions stand ready, as do riding mounts for those who do not yet have their own. Each riding horse has a bit, bridle, saddle and saddle bags. Six of the kings guard stand ready to assist you as necessary, including the task of managing the wagons.

As a gift to each of you, Cormyr presents you all with 5 healing potions.
OOC:
If you already gave yourself potions, you have a TOTAL of 5, not an additional 5

Lastly, in addition to the guards, a lone fellow wearing worn leather, a deep green cloak and high, soft fur boots greets you. Tipping his cap, you take note of the sharpness of his ears, the telltale sign of elf blood running through his otherwise human veins.

"Good day, my good sirs. I am Elavain Decruix. I have been tasked by his lordship to be your guide on this journey. It is a fine day to begin, though I fear the days will be getting wet as we get closer to the peaks."
OOC:
Lastly, I am posting a map of Geoff in a MAPS thread, as well as posting it here.

Ilwyn straightens up into a knight's salute at the king's bravado. "I'll have my retainers prepare my mount. For Geoff!" She cheers, before following with the court mage. By the time they arrive at the wagons, Ilwyn's retainers - A human man and an elven woman, each around her age - Are waiting with the guard alongside Ilwyn's warhorse. She gratefully accepts the potions, and stows them in her own pack.

"Well then, fellows. We've little more time to waste." She says, mounting up. "Let's go and put an end to the fiend causing this blight."
Nov 21, 2018 8:14 pm
As I leave, I shrug. For whatever Geoff can give me!

"I guess," Etna responds to the druid. It feels like I just think things and they happen.

Etna accepts the potions gratefully as she leaves, giving a more composed bow this time. She almost skips out to the wagons. The city is unfamiliar to her, and the prospect of leaving is exciting in itself. Waiting at the wagons is a mare of deep pine brown. Swinging deftly in pto the saddle, she leans over and takes a moment to fuss over the horse a little. "See Muri, I didn't keep you waiting all that long." When finally she sits comfortably in the saddle, she falls in line beside the druid as he prepares for the long journey. "About what you said earlier... about the 'old faith'. What do you mean?"
Nov 22, 2018 12:40 pm
Hraefn accepted the healing potions from Cormyr, placed them in a small pack that he carried, but made no move towards one of the riding horses. "Thank you, but it is sufficient that I ride with the wagon, and even then, I shall only require some space on it once every few hours or so."

Again the simple man withdrew a wooden token, resembling what looked like a open beak of a bird, which he meditated on even as the rest bustled about around him. When he opened his eyes next, he moved from horse to horse, speaking to each of them in an inaudible voice. He heard the sound of a different breed of horse pull up beside him, and looked up to see Etna astride her mare. Stroking the pine brown horse, Hraefn greeted it with similar words and a secret bribe of a small carrot he had hidden in the palm of his hand, before turning to Etna with a smile, evidently pleased that she was friendly enough to follow up on the earlier conversation.

"The believers of the Old Faith do not venerate any one god, but worship all the gods of nature in their purest form. Earth and sea are Mother Beory and Father Procan. Then the four seasonal aspects of Ehlonna, Obad-hai, Berei and even Nerull, as spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The children of Procan, Atroa, Sotillon, Wenta and Telchur, are the four cardinals, east, south, west, north. There is more, but suffice to say that all these aspects together form the eternal circle and balance of life." Hraefn caught himself from being too long-winded. "Do you also attend to a particular god of nature?"
OOC:
Casting Speak with Animals as a ritual, no real game effect for now, just wanted to RP getting to know the horses. I figure it'll come in handy real soon. ;)

Ilwyn
Your retainers snap to attention, giving a salute as they gather your equipment. "Yes, m' lady!" they say in near unison. Your horse is brought out, his coat gleaming with the recent brushing, his barding glinting in the early morning light.

Hraefn
Room is made in the cart for you and your belongings, and you are able to settle in comfortably.

Etna
Muri nickers softly, tossing her head up and down as she seemingly knows that you are about to embark of some sort of long adventure. Pawing at the cobblestone, you can feel her tense beneath you.

Cædwyn and Bram
Your horses are brought out, your gear stowed in packs and saddlebags. They appear to have been well-treated, even with the short amount of time you have been here. Their coats and manes have been meticulously tended to, and from the looks, their hooves have been re-shod.

Merriweather
As the only other member besides Hraefn without a mount, a beautiful palomino with a gold colored coat and white mane is brought out. The saddle is a light tan color, as are the leather straps of the bit and bridle. Like Muri, he seems to sense the coming travel and paws nervously at the cobblestone.

"Ghost is a great horse, sir. First time away from me in a while, so I'd oblige ya to take care 'til he gets back." his handler, a young, olive-skinned man, says. "Give 'em his head and he'll run forever if you let 'em. Oh, and he pr'fers the green apples to the red." he adds, a sad expression crossing his face.
Nov 23, 2018 4:41 pm
I reach my hand out, palm down to the horse. "That’s a good boy. Are you ready for an adventure?"
Nov 23, 2018 6:10 pm
Merriweather
Ghost nudges up against your hand, flipping his head up into it forcefully enough to push you back a step. He nickers and steps up to you, again pressing his snout to your hand.

Hraefn nodded at their guide Elavain, and settled into his cart for now, intending to wait until they exited the city proper before stretching his legs.

I mount my horse and quickly move up to the front of the formation. (I'm assuming that as the guide Elavain is also near to the front) To Elavain he says, "I assume we first make for Pregmere, and then on to Tycha? Well traveled roads are they not? Unless you've heard of anything to be concerned about?"
Nov 24, 2018 5:25 pm
"If that's his lordship's desire, t' go all the way t' Pregmere then come back t' Tycha, we can accommodate his wishes. Faster, though, would be get t' Oytmeet, then Grasmere and Hartland, unless you'd rather go up t' Lea, before headin' west." replies Elavain.

From Hartland we head north t' Tycha as you said, and then on t' Nurok. Haven't heard nothing of much concern, though as I am sure his lordship knows, beasts of a questionable nature frequent the lowlands bordering the Peaks, so as we get closer t' the borders we'd best be on our best guard.
OOC:
I realize that I never stated that Duke Owen summoned your group to his castle in the capital city of Gorna. My apologies
Nov 24, 2018 5:28 pm
I pet Ghost’s snout. Good boy. You and I will get along just fine. I then mount Ghost.
Nov 24, 2018 7:43 pm
OOC:
Ahh I see, from the map my guess was that we were probably near Hochoch.
Cædwyn's eyes light up at the mention of 'beasts of a questionable nature.' Smiling, with just a hint of eagerness he says, "Indeed. Well, should we come across something worth hunting I would gladly do my part to keep our provisions stocked. It's a long road ahead of us after all."
