New Faces, New Places

Three weeks, it's been nearly three weeks since house Tharashk approached each of you. Offering a second chance, the decision was obvious. "Burning Heart, middle city. Meet your contact on the balcony by sunset. Don't try to run, we'll know." Is all the armor-clad human said, his neck glowing ever so slightly. "Now leave." Leading you to the streets of Wroat, you will have to take the lightning rail to meet the deadline. Mid-morning with only partial clouds, the station is sparsely occupied with travelers. Before long the lightning rail arrives at the station, the hulking machine comes to a halt as passengers exit the carts.

Paying the fare, everyone is seated in standard class. The accommodations are much comfier then anything prison had: agreeable seating, hot meals flavored with Prestidigitation, and a bunk in the sleeper cart; it's almost enough to make you forget all your troubles. A few curious passengers -mostly kids- steal quick glances at the group, perhaps never seen a Warforged or Goliath in the flesh.

Halfway along the King's Forest, a casual observer can spot the massive towers of Sharn on the horizon. Many stories and many embellishments have reached your ears, regardless of previous visits. Some guards claim the Sharn watch ideal for protection work, if you don't end up dead. Prisoners have their own dubious take on the city, claiming with the right resources anyone can simply vanish in the lower cities. Whether any of this is to be believed is up to you, for now the quiet whirring of the lightning rail gives a chance to collect your thoughts.

Go ahead and introduce your characters or engage in some RP. I've left some details unaccounted for should you like to personally flavor anything.

Go and see the world his tribe had told him. After his heroics during the brief, but intense, invasion of their lands, the elders had decided that he fit some great prophecy or something (or they just wanted the young troublemaker out for a time; he never got a straight answer there), and sent him out into the world. If only they could see him now; press-ganged into something, as an escape from prison. Some hero he was turning out to be.

Trying to shake his poor mood, Vimak looks over the others sharing the accommodations with him. Dent he recognized from that bar brawl not too long ago.

Speaking low, so that his voice doesn't carry beyond their area, "So, is that how jobs are offered out here? Seems a bit dramatic to me."

"Only the jobs too dangerous for regular recruitment."
Bright's voice sounds world weary, with just the lightest trace of playfulness, hinting at his basic nature, heavily masked by the weight of his obsession.
His opinion delivered, Bright throws a look in equal parts resentful and comradely in Dent's direction, sighs a little, then falls silent again.

Dangerous! Hah! The human man, who appears to be in his mid thirties and has been quiet up until this point, let’s out the first laugh he’s had in over a decade. You think for a second that we aren’t being sent on a one way trip your just fooling yourselves.

"Nothing is as it was and nothing is as it seems since the war ended. Jobs are simple distractions."
Dent eyes the car, studying each stranger and mutters to themselves. "Human, distance 15 feet, neck and shoulder stance indicates training in armor. Threat low. Khoravar, distance 25 feet, leather armor under cloak, daggers likely. Threat low"

Dents eyes shift to the Goliath, seeming to only just focus on their companions now. "That night in the cell ...did you tell me that your tribe managed to avoid the war? How so for one hundred years?"

"For the most part, my people live high enough in the mountains that breathing is difficult if you aren't adapted to it. We're a several days hike from the edge of nowhere, and it is rare that someone accidentally wanders in. However, we aren't exactly safe. The things that can reach us, are rarely friendly." With his last comment, Vimak absent-mindedly rubs at an old scar on his arm. "And we do trade, some. Mostly, we keep to ourselves though."

Bright turns to Fink.
"Precisely. We are....... expendable."
OOC:
Basically we are the D&D dirty dozen.

I am very OK with that image

"Losing ones existence for the right reason is all one can wish for. There are too many senseless ways to go. Staying and fighting with your team, with you friends.... even if it is a loosing battle... that brings meaning to the meaningless." Dent turns an expressionless face towards Bright. "It seems we are all on the same team for now."

"'And death came for him in his sleep, for he knew otherwise would risk a fight.' I believe that was the best prayer for the dead I've ever heard. But to drag the conversation away back to the now, what do you think we will be doing? I've never been this far, so it can't be that I know someone here. And my skills mostly revolve around using my sword."

It seems obvious that there are a diverse set of skills brought together...we each will serve a purpose. For what? Fink shrugs apathetically, I guess we should feel fortunate if we can find out before we are killed...or worse.

I push my greasy hair back. Death comes for us all, it’s the only thing we have in common. But death only comes when it is your time. My black hair falls back out of place, covering my piercing green eyes.

"I find myself at a loss, I am unfamiliar with the reference we were given to Burning Heart. I agree that whatever we find we must do will not be ideal. We are walking into the battlefield blind." Dent replies to Fink.
Dent then murmurs to themselves as they scan the area again, a halfling enters from the dining car. "Halfling, low strength, nimble, city dress, possible Boromar agent, threat Medium"

Passing the time with speculation, Sharn grows ever larger as the lightning rail makes it past the first tower. After a few more minutes the lightning rail pulls along a bridge into a massive building, the Terminus rail station located in Lower Tavick's landing. Exiting the Lightning rail, it is immediately apparent how busy everyone is. Passengers and workers alike walk at a brisk space, filling the air with conversation, odd scents, and a few shifty looks. Looking up you see large walkways, you estimate 50 feet up or higher. The sound of music mixed with business can be heard, but no obvious means of switching "levels" is apparent.

Moving through the crowds you find the exit, evidence by the sunlight pouring through a large doorway. Outside a skycoach ascends to the middle city, and a few bored looking street vendors offer their wares to weary travelers and tourists alike. Not yet sundown, there is plenty of time left. How do you proceed?
OOC:
For quick reference Lower Tavick is in the lower city. You can use any skill/proficiency going forward to solve a problem if it can be reasonably applied (I'm a big fan of open ended encounters, XOSkel10 reminded me to say this in his game.)
Nov 21, 2018 10:28 pm
As they depart the station, Dent scans the busy ward. "Hundreds of threats, few allies" they think aloud. Dent scans the clouds for any soldiers, specifically Cyran soldiers, warforged better yet. "As I said team, I have never heard of Burning Heart. Unless any of you know what it is, we must seek guidance. Keep an eye for friendly common folk... laborers, cartkeepers, anyone who may have no love for this place."

Well we need to make our way to the middle city.
OOC:
Would like to roll History to see what Fink remembers of the city and how to get to Middle city

Rolls

History - (1D20+1)

(2) + 1 = 3

Dent can't spot any soldiers of Cyre, if so they conceal their colors well. The only Warforged in sight is behind a counter marked "Information" in common, the mark of Orien emblazoned on their shoulder.

Fink your memory of the city is hazy at best, the lesser walked alleyways and old contacts seem naught but a distant memory. The good news is public street signs are available to help point someone in the right direction.
Nov 22, 2018 5:49 pm
Fink keeps his eyes open to locate a sky coach or other means to ascend to their destination.
Nov 22, 2018 6:28 pm
Bright approaches the nearest vendor and in a warm, welcoming tone greets him. "Excuse me sir, could you tell me the fastest way to the middle city, apart from the sky coaches? We have an urgent appointment at the Burning Heart."
Nov 22, 2018 9:47 pm
Walking up to a vendor marked Sharn Inquisitive with newspapers on display, your greeting falls on the older elven merchant who is rifling through the current issue. "Hmm? Sky coach is quickest. Suppose you could take the the lift, just a few street downs." Taking the time to pry his eyes from the paper, he stares at you, as if contemplating his next words. Speaking in a low voice he continues "I wouldn't recommend it however, your galifer's look ripe for the picking."
