I don't agree. Consider the situation it is written for. You are in melee combat and you get hit hard and need to disengage to heal. To disengage you have to move and take the disengage action. That's your whole turn excluding bonus actions.

In your scenario you move, take an action, then move again. I don't think you can split your move either. In pathfinder it was much clearer.

Here are the relevant sections from PHB. I leave interpretation to you.
Quote:

PHB p.192
DISENGAGE
If you take the Disengage action, your movement doesn’t
provoke opportunity attacks for the rest of the turn.

PHB p. 190
BREAKING UP YOUR MOVE
You can break up your movement on your turn, using
some of your speed before and after your action. For
example, if you have a speed o f 30 feet, you can move
10 feet, take your action, and then move 20 feet.

PHB p. 191
MOVING ROUND OTHER CREATURES
If you leave a hostile creature’s reach during your
move, you provoke an opportunity attack, as explained
later in the chapter.
EDIT: Oops, didn't see that others had already responded. For what it's worth, I agree with Merlin's interpretation in this case.

Merlin, I apologize for my impatience; I forgot that you were on a trip and we're enjoying your game so much.

eheheh forget pathfinder Merlin ... in 5ed you can split your movement between actions ... and disengage is one of the possible actions, with it you forego any other action you could do (unless you've extra actions or bonus actions)...

Anyway, even if rules state that (as Jabes quoted), the last word is yours as the DM ^_^.

Ss19... Thanks for your comment, but ironically I need your post on round 4.

FYI SS19 mentioned in another forum that he's away at a DunDraCon this weekend (2/12-2/15.)
