Zenithral holds his breath and backpedals away, trying to get out of the cloud. Try taking hits for each other while blind... "Pomab, you fool! You seek good fame, but you endanger everyone! These fiends are NOT your true allies!" Green, sparkling energy surges into an arrow and he fires it into the cloud. (Guard 2 must make a DC 15 DEX save or take 15 damage, 7 damage on a successful save.)

Zenithral closes his eyes and fires two more guided arrows into the cloud, trusting them to miss his allies and meet their mark. Any other archer would consider this idiocy. Perhaps it was. Perhaps not. Guard 1 takes 17 damage. Guard 3 takes 23 damage.

Retching uncontrollably and doubling over in pain, Vincent isn't able to do much. Ugh, feels like that one time I tried to eat a spectral skunk. At least that's what I think it was... Swaying back and forth at random intervals Vincent makes it hard for anything to hit him

Ug vomits a mix of ice and hairy slop onto the floor. Leaning forward he dips the head of his axe into the sludge, lifts it up and breaths on it. The yeti vomit freezes into jagged edges along the deadly weapon’s edge. He staggers under the strain but his mountain upbringing kicks in. Holding his breath, Ug stalks towards Poopmabs voice.

ug activates crimson rite taking 14 damage. His endurance gives him back 8 hp

The fiends react instantly to the poison cloud's appearance. Four of them barrel past the party's sickened front-line warriors and head toward where they last saw back rank. Zenithral is hard-pressed to defend himself when he realizes that his arrows are hitting home sooner than they should, and a moment later the archer is set upon by two of the fiends (Zen takes 29 damage). Every swing of a weapon causes the cloud to swirl, revealing impassive faces that are far too still to be real. As Zenithral scuttles backward out of the cloud, he realizes that witnessed such lack of expression on the parade grounds - on the masked faces of the six devils that Belhifet created out of orogs. It would seem that Pomab has asserted control over these hellish soldiers.

Two more of the brutes close in on Ras, but the druid's wind magic is beginning to take effect. The devils try for some blind swings as they are pushed backwards, but end up simply swinging over the small gnome's head (Check out those awful six attack rolls against Ras!).

Alalla hears the fight around her, but she is entirely focused on her goal. With one hand stretched out she finds the wall of crates and moves forward blindly. Her hand abruptly reaches the end of a box. Could she have reached the end already? How far did she walk? Her answer is a brutal hit to her side as one of the devil guards catches up to her. As she gasps from the hit, a second guard arrives and drives another weapon home (Al takes 30 damage).

Another quick chant echoes through the fog, mixing with the screams and retches of companions and townsfolk, and then a dull roar begins that the heroes know well - the eruption of a fireball spell. With only a split second to act, Vincent lets his instincts take control, and throws himself into a wild dodge. The magical explosion fills the air with searing heat and biting flames (EVERYONE takes 34 fire damage, except Al only takes 17 because of resistance, and Vince takes NONE!).

As the fires burn, Ras' wind spell reaches full effect, blasting the noxious cloud out through the hole created earlier by his lightning spell and extinguishing the remaining flames of the fireball. As sight returns to the companions, they find the warehouse blackened with scorch marks. A handful of townsfolk, too slow and sickened to escape the warehouse lie dead. The fiendish guards, however, do not seem to have been affected by the fire at all.

Alalla, still looking for Pomab, sees the weasely man nowhere. But... she is in the middle of the wall of crates, not beyond it. Where was that gap? Then she sees that along the wall of crates is a section that seems oddly un-scorched. Why is she thinking suddenly of Nessa? Further investigation will be difficult, however, for the two closest fiends stand in her way, continuing their assault - and then it is just one fiend, as the last of Zenithral's wandering arrows finally finds its mark in the creature's neck. It drops like Ug's loincloth, and then there is just one guard in Alalla's way (Guard 2).

Ug is amazingly at 1 hp, I think.

Due to the wind, the guards couldn't pursue the bank rank as they backed up, I don't think that either Ras or Zen have anyone immediately next to them right now.

Alalla's sword moves as quickly as Zenithral's arrow and the devil falls beside its fellow. (Al uses her reaction to riposte, so guard 2 dies last round and doesn't get a turn this round.)

Before the body hits the ground Al is already running towards the- hopefully- illusionary crates, ready to skewer the man inside.

Alalla recognizes it for what it is - an illusory crate, carefully placed to hide a gap in the wall. She steps through the illusion and finds a small space cleared inside. Before her stands Pomab, a terrified expression on his weasely face.

Flame takes over her eyes and wings of fire sprout behind her once more. "Justice for those you murdered," Alalla says quietly. Her sword flares brightly and she plunges her blade deep into his gut and twists. She grabs a fistful of Pomabs clothes as they begin to light, and holds him steady on her blade. The smell of cooked meat fills the air as the sword roasts Pomab from the inside and the flames char him without. Alalla watches closely for any tricks, eyes glowing and face emotionless.

Pomab takes 195 damage and DIES.

Zenithral struggles to stay on his feet as the fiends bombard him with attacks. He hears the swelling of a fiery explosion and twirls his bow in front of him, sending the flames in spirals around him. "NO!" (Zenithral cast Absorb Elements and only took 17 fire damage from the fireball.)

He feels tendrils of light reaching from himself out towards the townspeople, but each thread shatters like thin ice, his own reserves of strength too weak to save any of them.

Ug! Alalla has Pomab! Zenithral calls. "Get the fiends!" Zenithral's words pierce Ug's clouded mind and the goliath feels an internal warmth in his chilled bones. (Ug regains 6 hit points and can use his reaction to make a weapon attack against whatever enemy he wants)

He carefully fires glowing, blue arrows into the howling winds, letting the air carry the projectiles into one of the guards before bursting with energy. (Guard 3 takes 31 piercing damage and 6 force damage. Guard 4 takes 6 force damage.)

"Now!" he urges as he sees an opening.

Pomab's eyes fill with terror as Alalla stalks closer. "No, no wait!" Alalla's fiery sword thrusts forward with all of her considerable strength behind it. Multicolored lights flash as Pomab's magical wards try to keep the strike at bay, but Alalla's own eyes, wings, and sword flare with unyielding and merciless heat, and the weapon slides forward through Pomab's gut.

The man's eyes begin to smoke as he is incinerated from the inside out. "No! I was promised..." He shudders in pains. "You-" His legs buckle, but Alalla's adamant grip on his burning clothes holds him up. A scream rips from his throat, and then he becomes a pile of ash, though it looks as though there may be some items of worth mixed in with the remains.

Even with his body destroyed, Alalla thinks she can still hear his voice calling out in denial. Whatever power in life he received from Belhifet, it is unlikely that Pomab has much pleasant to look forward to in the afterlife. Also, there's is a door set into one of the crates in the small room. It seems oddly fuzzy around the edges, as though it doesn't quite fit.

With Pomab dead, the guards outside immediately begin to lose coordination, as though they have less reason to fight, and are easily dispatched.

Pretty much everyone takes some damage that last round, but at this point the baddies are all easily wiped up - unless for some reason you want to keep one or more of the fiends alive.

Don't forget that Pomab has some loot!

After all the fiends are taken care of, Vincent walks over to Pomab's ashen heap and stabs it a few times with his sword.

"Just making sure." he mumbles to nobody in particular.

Ras goes through the terrified townspeople in the warehouse and spends his time quietly easing fears and checking wounds.

There are many wounded townsfolk in the aftermath of the battle, but Ras is able to mend their wounds and assuage their fears. With Pomab dead, it would seem that whatever magic compelling them to find fault with the heroes is dispelled - particularly when the guards' bodies turn to inky black puddles.

Poking around in the ashes, Vincent finds several magical items that survived their owner's destruction.

Of all the companions, it is Vincent who has the most experience with dimensional portals, so when Alalla opens the door to reveal a moderately sized stone room with lavish furnishings, several bookcases, and a writing desk, he immediately understands it's purposes - and dangers.

A pocket dimensional plane like this is a permanent creation of powerful magic where spellcasters tend to keep their private studies, but the door itself can only exist for one hour at a time. When it disappears, it can only be re-opened by one who is familiar with that particular demiplane and is also capable of casting the required spell.

If the door disappears while someone is in there, there is an extremely high chance of them being stuck there for the rest of eternity.
