Character Creation

Just a quick note that everyone needs to get their complete characters added into GP so i can review them. Once all characters are added and approved, I will begin the game.

Nice. Go ahead and create a GP version and apply.

I will be creating a DND Beyond campaign so all characters can be put there as well.

I'm trying to create a character sheet on DnDBeyond (I figure it would be easier to have it all on 1 platform, and it's already helped me find an error with my ability scores) but I can't access certain options like background and feats. Do I have to purchase them on DnDbeyond to be able to use them?

Here's my character sheet on DNDBeyond. Still unfinished, need to figure out how to add stuff from non-SRD sources.

Also, for the magic item, how's a Rod of Absorption?

What are you trying to add from Non-SRD sources? I listed the acceptable source books.

Background: Entertainer (PHB)

Spells: Friends (PHB)
Dissonant Whispers (PHB)
Enemies Abound (XGTE)
Find Greater Steed (XGTE)

For everyone's information, I am going to be creating a campaign for this game on DnD Beyond. I'm not sure if you can assign your character to that campaign. If not, i will take your character and add them for you, then you can 'claim' your character in the campaign.

That way I have access to your character sheet and can make adjustments, additions, etc., as necessary during play. Once it is set up, i will send you the invite link.

Note, also, that when creating your PC on Beyond, set the defaults to NO for homebrew, critical role, playtest, Magic and Eberon. This is strictly default stuff. Milestone advancement, fixed HP type, use pre-requisites, use variant encumbrance, turn OFF ignore coin weight.

Let me know if you have questions.

PS: You do NOT have to have any of the source books to create your PC, as when I create the campaign I will share content. I have everything except the Ravnica SRD... which I may or may not buy later, but won't matter for this game anyway.

-As a note, you still have an unclaimed expertise skill available.
-The Rod of Absorption is acceptable, though I want 2d10 rolled to determine the current number of spell levels it has already absorbed.
-You should be able to add all of those spells except Find Greater Steed, since that is a paladin-only spell. (unless you do not have a paid account. In those cases, your character build is limited to the Basic, free account, which is pretty limited in nature. Once I create the campaign and share content, you will be able to use the approved sources.)

Thanks for the information! I'll hold off on adding the background, expertise (I wanted to apply it to one of the skills from the background), and spells (Find Greater Steed is for magical secrets; I have the free basic account) until the campaign is created.

Rolls

Rod of Absorption - (2d10)

(39) = 12

Like I said, even with a paid account, the system will not allow you to add the spell Find Greater Steed unless you are a paladin. If you want it as a scroll, you can have a scroll with the spell (add it to your NOTES section), but you still will not be able to cast it.

Since he's playing a Bard, D&D Beyond should have an option to add his "magical secrets" spells that can be taken from any spell list. It's worked in the past, so unless they've changed that, it should still be working.

Good to know. I'll check it out.

Yeah, he cannot see it yet because he does not have the content shared. Once I create the campaign, he will be able to find it.

I currently have a Human Divination Wizard built on D&D Beyond. The description of this game said Wizards might get extra items if approved, so I placed the two things I really want on there, as well as a common magic item on there that's really just flavor:

Items:
-Helm of Teleportation (Rare)

-Ring of Spell Storing (Rare)

-Staff of Adornment (Common): If you place an object weighing no more than 1 pound (such as a shard of crystal, an egg, or a stone) above the tip of the staff while holding it, the object floats an inch from the staff’s tip and remains there until it is removed or until the staff is no longer in your possession. The staff can have up to three such objects floating over its tip at any given time. While holding the staff, you can make one or more of the objects slowly spin or turn in place.

Edit: Added description of Staff of Adornment, because no one I've played with ever uses common items like this. Saves you a quick google search.

I suppose I should also mention that I took Magic Initiate: Cleric, as my Variant Human feat. I have Guidance, Thaumaturgy, and I know Healing Word (in addition to getting one free cast a day). I definitely won't be a good healer, but I can pick someone up every so often if they drop to zero.

Pffffft... what kind of damage can a few small hill giants do? Scardy cats.. :P

I've got some healing and control spells, so I can be the main healer/support if we don't have a cleric. Just have to make sure the giants don't grab me and toss me 500 feet away like the last time I fought one in a game.

500ft?! Wow that's far, even for a giant. XD
