Gameplay - The Dragon Who Took Too Little

Atrix takes a moment to harvest some of the snake's flesh, he had no interest in the poison. He had heard that snake was not really very good, apparently, it was tough, bland and full of small bones but who knew perhaps this snake would be different. His mind wandered to his dreams of a farm momentarily before snapping back to reality and chiding himself. Daydreaming in the middle of a dragon's lair was the height of stupidity. His mind back on the task in front of him, he made his way into the dark, pausing slightly to touch Valinar and Trev on their waist in thanks. Atrix had no desire to make more noise than was strictly necessary but one brush with death this evening was enough for him.
OOC:
Going to head up the path, towards what I assume is 12.

The passageway opens into a huge cavern. Ten feet before the end of the passage, Atrix notices a pressure plate in the middle of the ground, but he can't see what it affects.

OOC:
Can I get a roll to try and disarm it? If not I'll go ahead and throw the bag of sand onto it and trigger it.
Mar 17, 2019 4:01 am
Atrix can attempt to use his Thieves Tools to disable the trap.
Mar 17, 2019 4:07 am
Atrix made his way up to the pressure plate gingerly, using the small mirror he had mounted on a metal handle to look under the pressure plate. He could see a small mechanism under the pressure plate that would cause it to trigger when weight was applied to it. Keeping the mirror where it was, he took out a small thin nosed pair of pliers and stuck them under the pressure pad, hoping to pull the mechanism out and thus disabling the plate.
OOC:
I'll assume it's a dexterity check to disarm the trap.
OOC:
Edit: Whooooo! Natural 20!

Rolls

Disarm Trap - (1d20+7)

(20) + 7 = 27

OOC:
You actually have +9, due to Expertise with Thieves Tools.
Atrix entirely disables the pressure plate, which would drop a portcullis from the ceiling, blocking the entrance to the bigger cavern.

Now safe to advance, this chamber is flooded with sunlight. This massive, sandy chamber has a towering ceiling supported by six pillars with spiraling, serpentine carvings. The far wall is nonexistent, leaving a natural window overlooking the vast desert. The floor in this chamber is covered with a shifting blanket of sand.

OOC:
I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Atrix made his way forward into the new chamber warily, on the lookout for any additional traps that may lie concealed under the shifting sands, he was also conscious of the fact that they were yet to see so much as a scale from the dragon.

"Ooooo, now this is something..." Thanks to the sunlight Ruby no longer stays behind, walking up to the closest pillar to observe the detailed carvings. "But who put all this sand in here?" She takes off her boots and stashes them in her pack, not about to let the endless supply of sand seep inside.
Mar 17, 2019 11:23 pm
Iathos nods at Ruby's words. "Who, indeed. You would think that our wandering about in a dragon's lair might have led us to a dragon. Or at least a sign of one."
Mar 17, 2019 11:27 pm
The sand on the floor is several feet deep or more in spots.
Mar 17, 2019 11:43 pm
Thanks to the reach of her staff Ruby carefully pokes the ground in front of her in case of a change of depth or traps. "At least we've saved someone, but overall I don't feel any closer to resolving this crisis." She gives the room a survey, looking for any indication of a dragon's presence.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+4)

(12) + 4 = 16

"No dragon. No hobgoblins either. Hmmm. Why is this sand shifting?"

Rolls

+3 if Perception, +0 if Investigation - (1d20)

(8) = 8

Trev is unable to find any tracks, perhaps due to the shifting sand.

The sand is shifting because of a light, dry desert wind stirring it from the far wall, which is entirely open to the outside.
Mar 19, 2019 3:20 pm
Valinar investigates the southeastern corner of the chamber...
Mar 19, 2019 9:33 pm
OOC:
As a sage type is there any chance that Iathos would know anything about dragons and their habits that might help in this situation? Like that some metallics are shapeshifters or can cast illusions? Otherwise he'll join Ruby and Valinar in having a dig around the room.

"I don't see any sign of our enemy or our companion the Dragon. Perhaps it uses this as a meeting spot? I don't recall this."
