Ruby relents, deciding they are getting nowhere at this rate. "Fine, have fun up here." She tosses Hasan the shell and heads for the water, only looking back briefly to see if her seemingly newfound apathy for him has convinced him to follow after.

Hasan cannot bring himself to do it. His fears get the better of him as he drops the conch onto the bank. "I ... I can't.." he begins backing away from the water.

Ruby and Hehsh swim down into the hole underwater. It is dark, turgid, agitated. By the river flow? No.

As you pass from the sunlit realm, you see a number (less than 10) of what look to be corrupted mermen attempting to break through a rocky portcullis that bars the way. They appear to have been engaged for a long time, and you can see scratches and chips in various spots. They currently have a long tree branch and are attempting to pry the bars apart. It seems to be working.

They haven't seen you yet, what do you do?

For free, they are trying to break into the place. For more information, an Intelligence (Nature) or a Wisdom (Perception) check would be appropriate.

Leroy Jenkins declares initiative, his acid orb slamming into one of the Merrow, it hisses in pain, badly hurt.

The merrows rush toward the surprise attackers, but they can't all fit into a good ganking. Harpoons poke at you.

Ruby pushes an incoming stab away, but Hehsh gets hit for 5 damage.

Hasan is unaware of this unfolding drama.

Ruby silently wishes they were level 3, alas they are not. She settles for countering the harpoon with her rather sturdy staff, an elbow to the chest, and a kick in the tail.
