"Woah there! Be gentle with her! She clearly in shock and other medical words I don't know. Hasan is also taken aback as Trev scoops her up.

Rubbing her hair Trev is almost in tears. Trev flashes back to reality and gently sets the women down and walks away towards the rocky out cropping. Pulls out a whetstone and sharpens his favorite possession his axe.

Once she settles down, she tells you that the pale orc, the necromancer Churj, was looking for the dragon hoard. He seemed to have a good idea of where it was, and lead them almost directly here. She doesn't think there are more hobgoblins about, and falls into an exhausted sleep.

The night passes uneventfully, and you all gain the benefits from a long rest (replenishing your hit points to full). In the morning, Illandra decides to head back to her farm on her own. She is a hardy farmer and isn't at all concerned with the wilderness.

Valinar is awake before dawn, looking out across the valley. When he rejoins the group, there is a sharpness in his eyes beyond anything the half-elf showed before. He fingers the amulet at his neck. It bears not the symbol of Mielikki, but the symbol of Helm, the god of vigilance.

"Now we know for certain at least one of the dragons is up there. Let us stay vigilant as we press on. Let us not be caught by surprise again."

"We make for that cave." Valinar says, pointing.

Hasan bidds Illandra a safe and swift journey in the morn as she walks away. "Indeed it sounds like a dragon is up there. I pray it is a friendly one."

"And if it isn't?" Ruby asks, currently doing some morning stretches to limber-up. "I've never talked to a dragon before, only heard stories."
OOC:
I am ready whenever.

The next challenge will be to scale the cliff face. The opening is about sixty feet up, but it is a moderately hard climb, DC 13. If someone can make it up there and find a way to fasten a long enough rope, then the climb for those following will still be thematically difficult but have no actual chance of failure.
Feb 27, 2019 3:13 pm
Valinar doesn't give Ruby a straight answer. "Did I ever tell you how I got this elven double-scimitar? I was given it as a reward by a silver dragon after I brokered an alliancec between the two rival elf clans that were under its protection."

He straps the weapon to his back, and climbs first. When he gets to the top, he ties a rope and lets the end down for the others.

Valinar

Hidden in the craggy face of the mountain is a wide cave mouth, barely noticeable from below. Though the passage seems to narrow as it delves into the mountainside, this huge, roughly carved entrance warns that you are entering the lair of something much, much larger than you.

You manage to tie one end of your 50' hempen rope around an outcropping.

Others

Valinar's rope hangs down to about 20 feet above the cliff base. Once you climb up to the bottom of the rope, no climbing checks will be necessary, but Hasan fails to reach it on his first attempt.

Ruby tries her hand at the climb reasoning it won't be as bad given the circumstances.

Ruby climbs up to the bottom of the rope, or higher if she wishes.

OOC:
If it will help others reach this point she will stay, otherwise might as well continue the climb.

To help the others, you could tie another rope to the bottom of Valinar's rope. A Dexterity (Acrobatics) test would be appropriate there.

After what seems an endless night of the strangest dreams, Iathos awakens feeling... empowered. With a whispered incantation, strange vigor seizes him. Grinning, he makes for the rope and hazards the climb.
OOC:
I invoke my fiendish vigor eldritch invocation as a precursor buff for the inevitable fall :p

I now have 7 temp hp

Ruby ties off the second rope with no little application of admirable acrobatic feats, and now everyone can use the rope in conjunction with the cliff itself, to ascend to the top.

Valinar gazes up at the cavern entrance. Therein could lie death or salvation. Perhaps both. He fingers the symbol of Helm at his neck, and mutters under his breath, You better protect me, you sonuvabitch.
