Character Sheet

Jan 27, 2019 9:07 pm
There's not really a great way to do sheets on here, but here's the format that will give you everything you need. For those of you that already have the book or have managed to borrow it, just follow the steps for creation. For those that don't have it, copy the post below into a new post, and I'll edit your post with questions that take you through step by step.

There is a Call of Cthulhu character sheet built into the site. That's where my other Cthulhu character is, Dr. Leonard Pavlich.

Thanks, Falcon! Is the game going to be purist? Just to confirm.

And what is everyone else thinking about doing, character-wise?
Jan 28, 2019 12:19 am
Aldrusian, I couldn't see it. What's it listed as?

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed you said Call of Cthulu. Trail of Cthulu is the same material, but different system, so the sheets won't work sadly. My one sadness about GP is that I can't code a CSS sheet like I can for roll20, but that's just the way it is, I guess.

Purist to start, yes. If you guys survive long enough and want to keep playing, it might eventually morph into Pulp.
Jan 28, 2019 12:23 am
Should we create the characters, then? Should we have something in mind for our backgrounds?
Jan 28, 2019 12:26 am
I'm posting in between cleaning the house for company, so I'm probably disjointed. My apologies. I want to get you as much info as quick as possible, but I might not get you everything, Still, Lux, you're asking all the right questions. XD

As far as characters go, it will be helpful for everyone to discuss what they want. I'd recommend that those that are more familiar with the system fill in the gaps that they recognize after others have created their characters. (Not that gaps are always bad; they can add to the feeling of dread as you realize just what you CAN'T do.)

Lux, before I go into the backgrounds, I have one very important question, and it's in a PM.
Jan 28, 2019 2:06 am
So, being a total noob, how do I fill this out?
Jan 28, 2019 5:25 am
Okay, Blacknight, sorry for the delay. Took me a bit to remember where this was. Character creation steps to follow in the next post. THese will also be up in their entirety in the game description.

This is an OFFICIAL free handout that explains how to build an investigator.

It's got step by step directions, but make note of these three things as you go through the instructions.

1) You have 16 Investigative points. You can hold up to 3 Investigative points, not assigning them to any skill. YOu can then assign them to a skill on the fly. Once assigned to a skill, they stay there permanently.
2) You cannot buy Mythos points; they must be earned.
3) You cannot use anything marked as Pulp.

Also, there's a few things that you'll need to be sure to include in your character's build.
1) You must be one or more of these things:
-- an official or private investigator in the New England area.
-- someone with ties to the Corneliszes, a wealthy Massachusetts family.
-- someone with ties to the occult.
-- At LEAST one character needs to be with either the police or the FBI. Once we have one of those, the rest of the characters can be pulled into the story by that one character if they're not official investigators.

2) The mythos is almost completely unknown, even to those who otherwise investigate these things.

3) All investigators get one free point of Cop Talk OR Evidence Collection.

4) Everyone should have a credit rating of 3 or more.

OK, I've got my character pretty much done. The only thing that's really missing is the pool points. I'm not sure I understand them, how to account for them or how to apply them. Since I'm using the condensed rules which is only 24 pages I'm probably missing out on a lot.

I've used 16 points for Investigative Abilities since we have at least 6 investigators. What I haven't done is to apply any additional points to Credit Rating which I should probably do but I could used some guidance on that. Also I've selected a weapon that would not be available until 1927 so it would help if I knew the date of the setting fairly soon.

My character is a former Marine MP who is currently a Private Investigator.

Actually, if you don't mind, Falcon(And I hope you don't because I'm bombarding you with questions, sorry!), where is the game going to be set, exactly?

I'll probably be playing as a Dilettante or an Artist! The baby daughter of a very rich family, someone spoiled and quick-witted. Her parents died for yet to be decided reasons, and whatever experience she had with a Mythos left her fascinated by the dreadful nature, which led to her becoming an artist, famous for her rather sinister work. She's probably not really aware of what she's dealing with.

I'm writing all this up in the game description, so check there shortly for a more complete summary.

EDIT: It's done, so here it is. If there's still questions, let me know.

I’ll fill the role of the police, work shopping a police detective that has had brush with a few too many unsolvable cold cases. He’s starting to really think there must be more going on to have this many unanswered questions about so many cases.

Can I be a journalist for an occult tabloid?
Jan 28, 2019 2:54 pm
And what is the difference between stealth and shadowing?
Jan 28, 2019 3:08 pm
Do I use my 64 general points or my 16 investigative points on heal, stability, and sanity?
Jan 28, 2019 3:39 pm
Blacklight: Yes, you can. That will work great. Stealth is any hiding, moving silently, etc. Shadowing is actively following someone without being noticed. Shadowing is a bit more specific.

You use your 16 points on Academic, Interpersonal, and Technical skill. 64 points go to general. Keep in mind that your second highest general skill must be at least half of your highest general skill. (Basically, you can't stack one skill. You have to stack at least two.)
