Scene 1: Busy Night in the Big City

Mar 28, 2019 2:26 am
Evening approaches, the sun sets over Nova Gail City. As street lights spark to life, the people of Nova Gail crawl through the urban landscape. Some headed home for the night. A long day of work behind them, they look forward to a quiet evening at home with family or recreation as is their want. Others are just beginning their day, the night shift setting out to enter the grind that keeps the world moving in this modern age.

The city is bustling with noises. Cars honking their horns, people talking on their phones or shouting insults for both real and imagined slights. All in all most would call it peaceful despite the cacophonous din of it all. It won't stay peaceful for long, though most may barely take notices.

Nova Gail City is home to the highest concentration of powered individuals in the hemisphere. With 50% of the world possessing some sort of extraordinary gift, it is common place to see a woman float rather than walk down the street, or a rat faced messenger scamper up a telephone pole and tightrope walk over a crowded intersection rather than push his way through the crowd.

The Garment District. A man with bulging muscles and a single bulls horn sells newspapers and other periodicals from inside a newsstand on the corner. He shouts at a passing speedster who's wake disrupts the front covers of his magazines. The speedster smirks to himself, taking a wry, slightly perverse, pleasure in the chaos he is causing. He gets so frustrated by the tediousness of dealing with customers at the computer outlet store he works at that these little rebellious acts have become what he lives for. Besides he's not really hurting anyone, just a little inconvenience is all he's causing, his revenge against the world that can't keep up with him. He considered trying the hero thing, or even the less glamorous life of police work, but he couldn't cut it. The studying at the academy was more than he could handle, and despite his remarkable speed, others were faster and braver than him. So he lived the normal quiet life of a 9-5 geek squad. "Computers were more his speed." he liked to say to his coworkers in the break room.

His speed wasn't the only advantage he had. His brain worked faster than most people too. It made sense to him, if you move fast you have to think fast, but retaining information he wasn't interested in was his issue, why he had failed the academy exam when though he finished it in record time. His perception was sped up to. That was what allowed him to side step the tear in space before he ran right through it. No telling what it would have done to him if he had toughed it. Often enough teleportation attempts that intersected anything other than air would fizzle out. Sometimes they didn't though. Those times got messy. Nobody like cleaning up from a teleportatoin accident. That was one reason why teleporters were supposed to use the legally mandated landing pads found every few blocks in the city. Or if you couldn't reliably get to one, you just weren't allowed to use your powers.

So that meant this teleportal that the speedster had just avoided was likely a villain. It might be an origin, some kid just coming of age who wasn't in full control of his power yet, but those were rare with all the monitoring people did these days. Villains though, they were relatively common, especially in Nova Gail City. The speedster considered stopping for a moment to see if it was anyone famous that would draw out one of the Top 10. Maybe he could get an autograph, or if he were really luck it could be Gun Bunny or UFO Girl that showed up, he might get a chance to ask one of them out on a date. All this flashed through his mind in a nanosecond, then he noticed the armored car across the street. It was transferring money back to the central vault it seemed. That meant the villains were heavy hitters, ready to deal with an armored truck. Figuring this could get dangerous, the speedster opts to move on. He does give a warning shout though, "Incoming teleporter folks, take cover!" so he feels like he's done his part.

Seconds later, the other people on the street figure out what the speedster was talking about. They see the blue and white light that is ripping a hole in the fabric of space-time. They see the three large, armored men that step through it and realize they need to make themselves scarce. It takes a few seconds more for the security guards loading large bags of money into the truck to notice the developing issue. The loud 'THUNK' on the side of the truck clues them in though. They look out and see super villain team "The Fanatics" staring down.

The two guards in back scramble to get inside the truck and slam the door. The driver initiates the lock down procedures just as the team of villains begin their attack. Fastball takes of on his Hovering Homeplate and launches his signature baseball bludgeons at one of the guards. It knocks the unfortunate man out cold. "Beaner!" the roughen shouts excitedly as he whizzes around the truck. Blitzer moves preternaturally fast to position himself in front of the truck. The driver has just manages to get the truck in gear and slam on the accelerator, but the hulking machine lowers a shoulder and halts the escape in its tracks. Slapshot skates forward on his zero-point energy skates and brandishes his hockey stick against the rear door. The weapon makes contact with the metal and lets out a wretched hiss as it starts to burn and cut through the metal hinges.

The heroes get the call. They are the closest to the scene. It seems many of the Top 10 are in other parts of the city dealing with other issues. This is a great time to shine.

Vitrius is doing a charity dinner in costume nearby when he gets the alarm. Though he's not yet in the top 10, his events still draw a bit of a crowd. Making his excuses, he steps outside and takes off. On the way he gathers his materials, broken bottles and other glass detritus, forming his wings that have become his signature. However, other glass he moves to other caches, ready to come at an unexpected angle if necessary.

Celine takes the takeout bag from the man behind the counter, giving him a little wink as she feels her phone buzz in her pocket. She looks at it on her way out the door, doing little to suppress her smile when she sees the text from her sponsor. Noting the address, not too far away, she bolts down the street, finding an alleyway leading to a decently low-roofed building. After a skillful bound on to the roof, she deftly races her way to the disturbance.
She makes it to the scene of the crime, watching Fastball zoom around, Slapshot cut up the van, and Blitzer be... Blizter.
She sets down her bag, figuring it would be safer to leave her precious dumplings on the roof than take them into battle. She does decide to grab one of her egg rolls, however, as she hops down to the pavement, takes a bite, and saunters over to Slapshot.
"Havin' fun there?" she asks him.

Vitrius arrives first on the scene, taking a vantage point from the top of the four story building across the street from the bank. He looks down to see the three criminals still working to get into the truck. The engine is giving off a strained whine as the driver does all he can to bowl over Blitzer, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Across the way, Echo arrives. She deposits a small bag on the roof of the four story office building and takes an athletic leap down to street level walking up behind Slapshot. The buzz of the camera drones comes to Vitrius's attention just as she delivers her quipy line. That will go over well with the audience.

Slapshot stops cutting into the truck and slowly turns around. "What's this now, eh? Sending out the second stringers? Hurts ma feelings that we don't even get to tussle with a starter. Shouldn't a wee lass like you be at home puttin' dinner on the table or somthin'? Not out here gettin' it ta trouble." His Canadian accent is heavy, he might be playing it up a little, but with that he swings his laser hockey stick at Echo who can feel the heat of the blade as it veers for her head.

Fastball positions himself over the truck and is winding up to bean Echo the moment Slapshot gives him an opening.
OOC:
Vitrius, you have your advantages with a free invoke of each. Sorry I forgot to approve your character before now, but you should be good to post as him now.

Echo, you need to Defend against the +13 Attack below before taking your action. It is an energy weapon.

Technically, Vitrius is the first hero to act in this scene because his bonus to Notice is higher than Echo's, but it really only matters if his action interferes with Echo's plans. So feel free to post your actions this round, but keep that in mind.

Vitrius has to chuckle at the villain using an energy weapon on Echo. Obviously he doesn't feel the need to worry about that. Instead he focuses on Fastball, who is both mobile enough and strong enough to attack him. "The top 10 are too good for the likes of you. Echo and I will be more than enough"

He sends some of his larger shards of glass at Fastball, attacking from multiple directions, hopefully keeping him too distracted to attack

OK! So...let's figure out what you want to do Echo. Option 1 is obviously to take the hit. You have a lot of Mild Consequences and Stress, plus the benefit of Regeneration when this is over. It would put you in a bad spot, but it is survivable. Option 2, spend Fate Points. You have 2 because of your Refresh. There are two ways to spend them. Both ways invoke an Aspect to start. Your Piwer Aspect is an obvious choice, but remember you can only invoke an Aspect once per roll, so choose with caution. Once you've invoked the aspect you can eiter add +2 to your roll or re-roll the dice. Mathematically, you had very bad luck. A +2 isn't much use to you, you would have better odds re-rolling, but it is your option. Spending a second Fate point after is also something you can do, but you don't have to decode that until you find out your results.

Your Mild Consequences can absorb 2 stress each as a reminder, but then I get to use them against you in future rolls.

Does that all make sense?

Vitrius's shards strike their target true enough. One lodges itself in the base of the hover board, another shatters against the output of its engines. The third is caught by the cybernetic mitt.
OOC:
Ok Vitrius...you have done 1 stress to Fastball. Your 11 to his 10. You have 1 FP. You could use it to increase the damage by invoking an Aspect, Power Aspect being the most obvious. You know these guys are not that tough, but they aren't henchmen either. A 1 stress hit isn't anything to be mad about. Also, your roll was average so a re-roll might come up worse than you have already. Your call.
Mar 28, 2019 2:52 pm
OOC:
Great...so now you have 6 stress to deal with instead of 9. You could re-roll again invoking a different Aspect, but 0 is pretty average roll so mathematically ill-advised or invoke something to add +2. Or take a consequenses and stress as you see fit. Noticing your trouble...one of those consequences could be a "wardrobe malfunction" that you could leverage with you Trouble and earn back some Fate Points if you want. We will obey the PG-13 guideline on the site and not describe it in to much detail, but we can have fun with it if you are OK with that.

Mar 28, 2019 4:39 pm
Ahh, it looks like our heroes may be starting to falter. El Toro sees that the timing is right for him to make his appearance.

The sound of trumpets erupts seemingly out of nowhere and El Toro Caliente appears in a cloud of smoke standing on top of the armored truck. "What's this? A sports fight in the middle of the city and you didn't invite Nova Gail's only lucha libre?" El Toro flashes a big smile and flexes a bit, wanting to look good for the camera.

OOC:
Well, as an energy absorbing woman with Regeneration powers, you have a lot of options. Take "Cracked Rib" for one of them. This would be a moderate consequence for most, but Echo can shrug that off easily. For the third...I'm want to Compel your Trouble, Not Suitable for all Audiences...you get a Fate Point back, and use your Pincushion ability. So, if you accept the Compel, your next action will be to Create an Advantage, probably with Athletics as you try to Disarm Slapshot by letting him impale Echo. If you fail call the last Consequence "Laser Burns" or you can refuse the Compel by paying me a Fate Point and still get "Laser Burns" as a consequence.

Echo spins away from Slapshot, ripping his hockey stick out of his hands. The leverage the young hero used seems like enough to knock him off balance and he slides around on his energy skates. He has to flail about to keep his balance.

A cry of shock and disgust comes from the gathered crowd as they take in the aftermath of the exchange. The blade of the hockey stick has cut deep into Echo's shoulder causing what looks like a grievous wound, but it has also cut open and burned away part of her costume, revealing quite a bit more skin than the young heroine might want exposed. Several cellphones appear and start flashing as the onlookers try to grab a shot that Echo knows will spread quickly over the internet in a few moments. It will take a ghoulish appetite to get their jollies off these photos, but those people exist.

The camera drones that were following her all retreat to a safe distance behind her. The quick thinking camera operators back at the studios trying to keep the FCC off their backs. Echo realizes she is going to catch and earful for this later.
OOC:
SO that worked out well! Echo succeeded with Style...so you get to use two free invokes of the Disarmed aspect on Slapshot. Essentially this means you get to add +2 twice in this scene. They can be used on one roll or divided up as you choose.

El Toro Caliente, feel free to take an action when you like. Blitzer is still dealing with the truck trying to escape, Fastball is on top of the truck dealing with Vitrius, and Slapshot is now disarmed of any visible weapons, although a kick form his skates might hurt.
Mar 29, 2019 6:22 pm
Seeing as how Blitzer seems to be unoccupied, I'll do a backflip off of the truck and land directly behind him, positioning myself so that I'm directly in line between him and an electrical box of some sort, hoping there's maybe a high power transformer of some sort in the near vicinity. Basically trying to create an advantage where if he charges me, the thing behind me will ruin his day. I'll then yell, "Hey man. You know people hate it when you hold up traffic like this right?"

Rolls

Mar 30, 2019 7:04 am
OOC:
@El Toro, there might be a better way of going about this. Another use of Fate Points is the ability to just create things in the scene. Specifically when they only maybe will become useful in a future action. If you are willing to spend one, then yes there is one of those big green utility control boxes on the street corner. Then we can change your action to a Provoke Attack vs. Blitzer's Will and proceed from there.
Mar 30, 2019 3:37 pm
That sounds good to me, my provoke is +3, so slightly better outcome with that.
Mar 30, 2019 4:12 pm
Blitzer turns his helmeted head toward El Toro Caliente. His deep but somewhat tinny voice roars over the sounds of the armored car engine. "Oh go sit on your own pointy hat, worthless pretty boy! I'm working here!"
OOC:
Perhaps not the sharpest retort, but a bit insulting, wouldn't you say El Toro? Anyway...

So that is a 0 to your 3 Toro. He will take a consequence...we'll keep it simple and call it Provoked by El Toro. So you've waved the proverbial red flag at him. I'll be posting their actions next.

Will to Defend the Provoke (+1)

Mar 30, 2019 4:31 pm
Now that the heroes are on the scene and have engaged the villains, the crowd really starts clamoring. A lot of them are focused on the fact Echo is baring a lot more skin than they believe appropriate, or the fact she has a laser powered hockey stick buried in her shoulder. The second largest group cheers the arrival of El Toro Caliente, the most subscribed hero in the city, but they also seem to mostly be on the front end of the armored truck, so perhaps they haven't seen Echo yet. A few have turned their eyes on Vitrius and cry out for him to do more than throw something at the bad guys.

Fastball seems preoccupied removing the glass from his hover board to do much else. He spins about haphazardly as he tries to extract the glass without doing more damage.

Slapshot, disarmed of his primary weapon decides to try and fix that issue. He lunges forward trying to grab the stick back.

Blitzer turns back to staring down the driver of the truck, but a panel on his shoulder opens up and small grenade lobs toward El Toro.

2 Positive, 2 Blank, 0 Negative - Total: +2

Mar 30, 2019 4:45 pm
OOC:
OK...so Fastball is still struggling with the glass in his hover board. He won't be attacking for at least another round it seems.

Slapshot is continuing to tussle with Echo, but she has a lot of advantages over him. Echo should roll her Athletics as an active opposition. If you win he stays Disarmed, if he wins he will get his stick back, but either way Echo still get to take advantage of the Disarmed condition on Slapshot as it takes him a second to adjust his grip to attack again. So what I'm saying Echo, is that you could use the Disarmed invokes to keep him disarmed, or attack him while he is distracted, or both.

El Toro, you need to defend against that +5 grenade coming at you.

PCs are free to act once they have responded to the appropriate roll above.
Mar 30, 2019 5:10 pm
Ignoring the pain from the laser weapon burning in her shoulder, Echo tumbles backward, trying to keep the hockey stick out of Slapshot's reach, and likely being subjected to more photos. At the height of her somersault, she kicks up her foot, aiming for his chin.
OOC:
I am going to add Echo's +2 for Super agility to her game of keep-away, and add +2 for disarmed to the attack.
OOC:

Keeping up the outward appearance of smug calm, Vitrius groans internally. First Echo loses her cloths, something that tended to favour women heroes in ratings, and then El Toro of all people shows up. Between the two of them, Vitrius feels like he's not going to get any camera time if he keeps up like this. He needs to put on a show. Unfortunately the people don't get excited unless the stakes are high.

Giving up for the moment the assault on Fastball, Vitrius flips off the roof, allowing his power to slow his fall, and landing next to Echo. The trail of glass behind him seems to swell, as he gathers more material, an briefly engulfs Echo in a tornado of swirling glass. When it clears, Echo appears to be wearing an elegant glass ballgown, though none of the glass is actually touching her skin. Vitrius keeps a few pieces of blunt glass close to her to track her movements, so that he can move the glass out of the way to allow her to fight, but anyone trying to attack her will get a face full of glass first.
OOC:
Rolling will to create an advantage, Glass battledress. The intent is to cover Echo to keep the focus on the fight rather than her, provide defensive cover to an ally who just got stabbed, and obscure her movements so that her attacks are harder to dodge. Echo can feel free to use the invokes as required.

Edit: Echo beat me to rolling, but I think you said I acted before? In that case if I get any invokes on the dress Echo could use it to improve her attack

I'll likely use my invoke on Arial vantage point to improve my roll by +2, since I'm going to lose that aspect when I hit the ground. I think it's justified, the vantage point allowed me to keep track of where Echo was and guide the glass accurately without putting her at risk
Mar 30, 2019 6:31 pm
OOC:
Yeah, if Vitrius just wants to assist Echo that is all good. At +11...super good...Echo has Glass Battledress as a layer of Armor 2 and invoke that to add to other actions if she wishes. And yes, the perils of PbP Vitrius's action technically happens first, but does not interfere with Echo, so that works out. Just a minor retcon to add the shiny new duds.
As Vitrius descends, Echo is wrapped in a flowing, shimmering layer of fine particles. The glass forms a barrier, covering her nudity and her wound. The glass flows with her as she tumbles and follows as she kicks out at Slapshot. Her boot connects hard, slamming his jaw shut. The heroes can also hear the telltale sound of bone snapping with the impact. The villain hears it.

Slapshot is reeling about, off balance again, and holding his face. Blood flows freely from his mouth and nose. They are probably broken. He looks like a feather could knock him over right now, but he recovers some and squares up. His throws his fists so his gloves hit the street and then come up into a classic hockey fighting pose. Some in the crowd starts to chant Echo's name, other's call out Slapshot for being thrashed by a girl (seeming to forget that Echo is nearing the Top 10 in rank and a renown fighter herself). A few cheers for Vitrius can be heard. It seems his gallant gesture isn't going unnoticed.
OOC:
Slapshot is filling his Moderate and Mild Consequences here. Broken Jaw is the Moderate, Embarrassed & Enraged is the Minor. I have never been really clear on how much I am supposed to reveal to players. I know Aspects are supposed to be secret on the bad guys so that you can find them out and use them against them, but you caused these Consequences so you get to know those for sure. I will say that these guys are not on your level. Slapshot is literally ready to drop. None of them have Severe Consequences or much stress. Another good hit on him and he's out of this fight. Anything more than a glancing blow will do. Blitzer has filled his Minor Consequence already, Fastball is unharmed at this point.
Mar 30, 2019 8:17 pm
Echo follows through on her somersault with unnatural grace. She finally notices that she isn't the only hero here. Taking in the gorgeous glass dress, she smiles and calls out to Vitrius, "Thanks for the save!" She wasn't exposed for too long, so hopefully the cameras would be back, and she could get back to the real show.

Blitzer's explosive creates a sizable divot in the street. The chucks of asphalt go flying in up and out in every direction. The crowd nearest shouts their displeasure, but seems unharmed. Blitzer shifts his grip on the truck and the heroes hear the metal crunch in his armored hands. "You wouldn't stand a chance if I really wanted to hurt you prissy pants! I'd stomp your ass without breaking a sweat"

He pauses for a second, clearly working through some intense thoughts. The crowd jeers him. "Big talk from a guy wearing power armor cause he can't cut it. Show us what your made of Blitzen!" Calling him the name of one of Santa's reindeer seems to do it. Blitzer shouts in rage.
OOC:
Sorry for the delay, again. Had a busy couple days. The weekends can do that to me. Maybe should have warned you all before.

Forgot to note the +1 on that roll for Blitzer. So that is 8 shifts difference...El Toro, how do you want Blitzer to act? He will take the second Consequence Blinded by Rage and you have filled his mental stress track. You get to dictate his action. You want him to charge you so you can send him into the electrical box you created earlier?

OOC:
No problem, I'm usually a lot less active on the weekends myself.
But yes, that was my plan initially. He would charge right at me, into the electrical transformer. I'm actually standing four feet to the left of where I appear to be standing, so if he charges right at me at full speed, he'll just pass harmlessly through my projected image. It's a mental attack, but I'm thinking in this situation the damage should be physical, at least to his suit.

Of course once he rams into the transformer and it explodes in a giant shower of fire and sparks, I'll be posing in front of the action. And the crowd roars, "¡Olé!"
Apr 4, 2019 4:51 am
Blitzer crashes into the transformer to the cheer of the crowd. The suit of armor jerks uncontrollably and sparks. The street lights overhead short out and then blow up, showering sparks onto the street. Eventually the big guy ceases moving and the heroes can hear a voice screaming from inside to be let out.

Echo smiles at Slapshot, taking in his haggard appearance from just one hit. "Didn't anyone ever tell you, it's impolite to hit a lady?"
Before he has a chance to retort, she bolts at him, and, hoping to let the fall knock him unconscious, tries to sweep his legs out from under him with a kick.

"Echo, keeping this dress up and making sure we don't get ambushed is about all I can handle right now. We have s few options. I can try to repair your costume. It might be a bit... Intimate. Or I can give you cover to get away. Or, we can team up to handle fastball. If you get close to him I can attack him and keep the dress up as well. What's your preference?"

Hey! Good question! I was not fully awake when I posted that, I guess.
The armored car, now free of Blitzer's grip shifts gears and coughs out a cloud of black exhaust. In a smaller vehicle it might have peeled out, but the heavy truck simply gets up to speed a bit faster that it normally does. It hits the intersection and makes a hard right turn. The truck leans a bit as it goes around the corner, coming up off two wheels just a bit, but corrects and speeds away.

Fastball, upon seeing his two companions are down hesitates for a moment then flies off after the truck.

(Sorry busy weekend)

El Toro will in fact open the release to let him out as he sees Echo and Vitrius speed off after the truck. As he starts to extract Blitzer from his suit he tells him, "You know, I really need to look into getting some kind of car or something... What do you think man?"
Apr 9, 2019 6:24 am
As the hatch on Blitzer's armor opens it reveals a balding man who seems to be in his late 60's wearing a light gray leotard with several dark metallic disks placed in strategic positions about his body. A quick glance inside the mecha give El Toro the impression that they are intended to control the movements of the robotic outfit. Pulling himself out of the frame in a less than graceful fashion, the aged man tumbles to the ground a bit and stands up. At which point three civilians step forward brandishing their powers, one man's fist bursts into flames, a young woman's arms transform into spindly appendages like spider legs and she weaves a strand of sticky looking purple filaments into a net, the last man looks very nervous but he puts his fingers to his temples and the air begins to hum with a weak telekinetic force. "You cuff'em El Toro, we'll make sure he doesn't make a break for it." the flame fisted gentleman says.

"Oh go blow it out yer ass." Blitzer replies, though whether he is responding toward El Toro or the civilian is unclear at the moment.
Fastball chases after the armored car. He glances behind himself as he sees the two heroes coming after him. "Give it up "heroes" you can't stop me! I will claim that prize! Its all mine you hear!" he spins his hoverboard attempting to shake you both

DarkReaver could probably tap one of my aspects (the plan, or the dress) to succeed on Echo's roll, and then I could use the resulting boost on my attack. I don't think it changes the result, except that Fastball would lose his board
Apr 9, 2019 1:52 pm
OOC:
I'm fine with tapping in to one of those.
Apr 9, 2019 6:32 pm
OOC:
continued from above...
Echo cuts through an alley and leaps at Fastball as he tries to zoom past, but the villain evades her for the moment. Vitrius on the other hand is on target. The large glass construct connects. Fastball's bell is rung and he has a few scrapes, but he maintains his pursuit of the armored car. If Echo doesn't think fast she is going to be left behind.
OOC:
OK, sorry about my poor time management, hopefully I'm back on track. So, Echo...you got a 6, Fastball got an 8...so you are behind by 2. If you can come up with a plan to use one of those floating aspects you'll get a +2 which would mean you Succeed with a Cost. The quick and dirty version of that is you get what you want, but I get to dictate some downside. If you spend a Fate Point and invoke another aspect, you could just outright win. Your call. I am reading that your ultimate goal is to impose a Unseated style aspect on Fastball, taking his hoverboard away. If you tie, I think you manage to grab on to the board, but not knock Fastball off, you will be in a precarious position, but not left in the dust. If you win, then the truck gets away and the fight continues on this new block.

As for the attack from Vitrius, Fastball took Strike One as his mild Consequence to absorb the stress, because I'm sticking with the baseball theme.
Apr 9, 2019 6:53 pm
OOC:
If you're going for baseball references, how about Off base for Echo's advantage? :P
Apr 9, 2019 6:57 pm
OOC:
That s great...we shall see what she decides to do.
Apr 9, 2019 7:08 pm
OOC:
Not to be the "rules" guy, but if Echo is creating an advantage, a tie should create a boost, instead of a success with consequence, right?

https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/four-actions#create-an-advantage
"When you tie, you get a boost instead of the situation aspect you were going for. This might mean you have to rename the aspect a bit to reflect its temporary nature (Rough Terrain becomes Rocks on the Path)."

Of course, the silver rule says to ignore the rules if it'd be more fun, so feel free to ignore me. Just making sure I'm on the same page
Apr 9, 2019 7:09 pm
OOC:
I will invoke the I've got a Plan aspect, as I imagine that, with Vitrius's heightened intelligence, he saw that something was off on Echo's trajectory and used his attack to push Fastball back on the right course. I will also use a Fate point to invoke Lovable Trash Talker like this.

Echo latches on to Fastball's hoverboard, and, in mockery of his baseball theme yells, "And she steals the base!" as she rips it out from under him.
Apr 9, 2019 7:27 pm
OOC:
Foolsmask, when you get a chance can you let me know the aspects/free invokes as you see them? I think we've used all of the relevant ones, just want to make sure I'm not missing any. One of the major disadvantages to PBP is that they're not all sitting on the table to pick up
Last edited April 10, 2019 5:45 pm

OOC:
Yeah...you were right about the tie. You were nice and polite about that so I don't mind you pointing things out like that. But the boost would have been to the next roll, so Echo's answer works out better in the end. I reviewed it and I agree it looks like all the free ones are used up except the one Echo just created by using I have a plan...so the only As[ect with a free invoke is Fastballs\'s Off Base. I will figure out a method to track this stuff. At the table there would be a list or pile of index cards to look at. So what about a Forum of Current Aspects. I will have some rules for how to use it.
Echo misses Fastball on the first pass or so the villain thinks, but what he doesn't see is that tackling him from that direction would have caused he and Echo to plow into a group of onlookers. So Vitrius created a pane of glass so that Echo can flip around and use it to attack from the proper angle. Deftly flipping about Echo springs back at Fastball grabbing the hoverboard and using her momentum to spin them around. After being hit by Vitrius a moment ago, Fastball is to disoriented to keep his footing and he goes tumbling to the street.
Apr 10, 2019 4:39 pm

El Toro, from his hidden vantage point agrees that a surrender would be in everyone's best interest. He'll lend a hand to make it an easier choice for Fastball, creating an illusion of a lot of police, sirens and such rapidly approaching their location. It's a pretty big illusion for him, so he'll have to concentrate pretty hard to make it happen.

Fastball hears the sirens and stares down Vitrius for a moment before he ducks his head to hide his eyes from the hero, striking the classic pitcher pose...

But then he puts his hands high, up over his head. He looks defeated. The crowd cheers approval of the heroes victory. Three blocks away you see the armored truck has stopped and the driver is looking back at you. He waves then gets back in making to leave.

"Fine, I surrender..." Fastball says. "...but you're just gonna let the prize get away? That doesn't seem very smart. Oh, and uh...who's got Slapshot and Blitzer?"
OOC:
So Vitrius got a 6, El toro added +2 to that with his police sirens. Fastball only got a 3. That seems like enough to get him to stand down, but you Succeeded with Style there Vitrius, so you have some sort of bonus to claim.

Seeing that the fight has come to an end, Echo takes a moment to finally extract the hockey stick from her shoulder. Working her injured arm out of the sleeve of her jacket, she tucks the end of the sleeve into the ruined edge of her costume, covering up the more risque view of her exposed flesh. With the obstruction no longer stuck inside of her, the flesh is slowly beginning to stitch itself back together.
Seeing the driver react that way, she turns to Vitrius. "I'll keep an eye on screwball here, if you want to see what's up with the driver."
Apr 12, 2019 1:16 pm
Vitrius shouts to the driver, "You need to stay! That truck is not safe to drive in its condition, and the police will need a statement"

Vitrius scoffs at Fastball's pathetic distraction attempt, as he pulls some zip ties from his pocket and binds his hands and feet. Still, a flicker of doubt crosses his mind, and he expands his senses to make sure all is well back at the original scene of the crime.
OOC:

Edit for Darkreaver's post:

Seeing as Echo's wardrobe malfunction is dealt with and there aren't any further threats, Vitrius dismisses the dress, reforming the glass used into large shards floating next to him at ready. He looks visibly calmer - controlling that many particles at once was straining him, even if he wouldn't admit it.

One of the illusionary police cars arrives at the scene. Now that it's closer everyone can see the shield on the car is El Toro's bull shaped lucha libre mask. He steps out of the car and they all start to fade away, the sirens all dying down as well. Flashing a big grin at Vitrius he says, "I took care of Blitzer. He's not much of a danger to anyone without his suit."

Back on the block with the bank, the crowd is starting to disperse but they still have Blitzer...the man inside the suit...restrained by their various powers.

A man with a three foot neck approaches the heroes. "Yeah, so like, what happened was this lady appeared, well...it was lady shaped anyway. She was all armored up like a black knight robot thing. But her head...her head was like a dome filled with energy and a brain. No skull or eyballs or nothing. Just a brain. Echo sighs internally as the long-necked man gives his report. 'Great,' she chides herself. 'One got away by preventing another from getting away.' Hiding her distress with a smile, she reassure him and the crowd. "Thank you for filling me in. I am happy that none of you stepped in. With an unknown assailant such as this woman, I would not wanted anyone to have gotten hurt."
She turns to look at Blitzer. "In the least, we have two of the three original assailants apprehended, and they will be able to give us more information as to this fourth accomplice."
She also holds up Slapshot's stick, "And the one that got away is still disarmed. If he doesn't have a stockpile, it'll take him some time to get back out on the streets." She chuckles a bit at that, though seriously hopes that this team doesn't have an arsenal at their command.

Vitrius takes to the sky in pursuit of the truck. City traffic keeps he truck from reaching top speeds, so for now it stays in range. But quickly he realizes it is heading for one of two destinations. "The Tunnel" which is an underground roadway that connects several different areas if the city more directly so citizens can stay in their cars, or "The Wheel" the freeway that people use to get from the extreme ends of the city limits. If they go into the Tunnel, it will be very cramped for Vitrius and the smog can build up pretty quickly despite the ventilation system. The Loop would be easier, nice open air vantage points, but they can get some real speed, and the open air would make Vitrius an easy target to see.
"I ain't saying nothing! You'se ain't never gonn'a crack this egg!" Blitzer pulls against his restraints and tries to get in Echo's face. His breath reeks of stale beer and flecks of spittle fly toward the young woman but fall short of striking her,

A teenage boy, about 16 or 17 approaches Echo. "Hi! his voice cracks a little, he clears his throat and continues affecting a slightly lower pitch this time. "Could I get a selfie with you? You are one of the coolest up an coming heroes. I upvote you in every poll."

El Toro, don't want to leave you out, but I need to know what you are doing with Fastball. No worries I know the weekends can be hectic and keep people from posting.

Vitrius radios his handlers
"I'm in pursuit of an armoured car, subject of the previous robbery attempt. The car peeled away when I approached, I'm not sure why yet. Suspecting additional perps, possibly with mind control ability, or an inside job. I'm directing them towards the wheel. Send cameras, they're going to want to see this"

From his vantage point, Vitrius begins nudging and shifting the cars heading towards the tunnel, not enough to cause a crash, but enough to rattle them and cause them to brake, causing a small traffic jam in that direction

(Akk, sorry. Aye, busy weekend.)
Seeing as Fastball is still tied up, and not an immediate threat, I'm just going to make conversation with him. "Wow that was crazy man. Hey, you ever think of like playing baseball? You'd make a pretty good pitcher you know."

Echo: The teen holds up his phone and reverses the camera so you see yourself reversed in the image. He raises his free hand and gives a thumbs up with a big cheesy smile. He clicks one picture quickly. "Dang, out of focus. Just one more?" he asks, but doesn't seem to be waiting for a response. As you prepare another smile you notice his free hand is moving closer to you. His fingers are relaxed a bit, but still in a thumbs up mostly. At the last second you realize he is about to grab your ruined top and try to snap a picture. How do you react? Keep in mind the police are very close.
Location 2: On the Road

It takes a bit of effort, but the cars near the turn for The Tunnel all veer in that direction. The armored car slows for a second, but then swerves toward the on-ramp for the freeway (The Wheel). The speed through a red-light, narrowly avoiding an accident and ascend the on-ramp at about 20mph faster than the posted speed limit.

Fastball doesn't seem interested in being chummy. He only beat you by 2, so you could spend a fate point and invoke an Aspect to tie him, or two to beat him. Depends on how badly you want to establish a relationship with this villain.

OOC:
Going to roll this together into one post, since barring something strange happening, this'll be Vitrius' plan, which he likely won't deviate from. If something goes so wrong that he can't complete one of the steps, I'll come back and erase that part and we can continue from there. If there's a problem with doing it this way let me know and I can remove everything past the first roll as well
Vitrius smiles as step one of his plan is complete. The truck being in the open air makes it much easier to follow, even if Vitrius can't match its ground speed. He dips and bobs, coming into range of the ground and picking up and glass he can (He'll avoid taking windshields, but won't rule out street lights) until he has a great big, heavy glass spear
OOC:
Create advantage: Great big glass spear
Flying up, he takes careful aim at the Truck. He plans to follow the spear down, nudging it like a guided missile towards his target
OOC:
Create advantage: Accurately calculated trajectory
Finally with that done, he waits patiently for the police and camera crew to catch up with the truck, following its pace as best he can from the sky. He likely won't be able to keep up on straightaways, but climbing higher should allow him to keep the truck in sight, and when he finally moves to attack, he should be able to build up a very quick speed in the dive and close the gap.

When he is sure the cameras are watching, he drops from the sky with the spear, dropping it straight through the engine block of the truck, while decelerating himself at just the right rate to not cause himself harm, either from slowing down or hitting the ground. He lands behind the truck, and begins walking confidently towards the driver's side door, already regathering the glass shards embedded in the truck
OOC:
Attack with will, tapping all the invokes from flying, the glass spear and the accurate trajectory

@Vitrius: because you are the only PC on the scene, this is fine. If others were around, I would roll you back to one action. I will be answering this in full a little later if all goes as pplanned.

OOC:
That makes sense

As Vitrius moves in with his gigantic glass spear, the armored car speeds onward, weaving around the traffic on the freeway. The setting sun lights his weapon so that it looks like a blazing comet bearing down on the trucks engine. Making his final approach the sila-kinetisist is surprised when the passenger door opens and the second guardsman climbs out onto the roof. Where his hands touch the vehicle, it smolders and grows red-hot. As the figure gets to the roof, they burst into flame, revealing that it is in fact not a man, but a woman, a criminal named Napalm who generates a burning plasma and can hurl it like a fire hose.

Her feet melt the armor of the vehicle granting her a foot hold. The remnants of her disguise fall away, alerting the drivers nearby to the danger they face. They all hastily pull over and avoid getting in the way. Now the only issue is the traffic the truck is going to approach from behind. Those people might not see the fireworks and could still be in danger.

Turning to face Vitrius, Napalm raisers her arms and unleashes her counterattack. A torrent of burning plasma erupts in Vitrius's direction. The driver inside the vehicle somehow seems to anticipate the hero's plan and takes evasive maneuvers, which cause Napalm's fire to wave back and forth creating a wall of heat that is nearly unbearable.
OOC:
The Drive will add +2 to the attack roll, assuming it nets at least a +1. I got a total of +8 for your roll, agreed? As usual you can invoke to add to your result if need be.

I guess not, assuming I didn't succeed with style on any of the advantages. I'll assume I didn't
Vitrius sees the villain get out of the car and on to the roof, and has to abandon the plan. A sudden stop would at least break her legs, and likely a few more things, and there's no way he can murder her in cold blood, at least not with the cameras rolling. Unfortunately he carefully calculated his momentum to be exactly right to land behind the truck, which continues to drive away at highway speeds. Unable to stop the truck without killing the villain on top, and unable to build up enough speed to catch up, Vitrius will be forced to watch it drive away.
OOC:
Willing to concede the conflict, unless they're going to stop

Sneaky as the kid may be, his reflexes were nothing compared to Echo's. To be fair though, she didn't want to alienate a fan, even a bit of a... let's say an opportunistic one. Echo counters the boy's move be throwing up her hand in a back-facing peace sign, cleverly using the two fingers pointed down to clutch her top, while also positioning it to cover the worst of it should her plan fail. He was a sweet fan though, so she decided to give him a little gift, if only to distract his hands. As he's about to take the picture, Echo leans in and plants a kiss on the boy's cheek, leaving a bright, pink lipstick stain behind.
OOC:
Do I need to roll something to distract him, or do you think that's sufficient?

(*grin* No, no interest in being chummy. But I will use the opportunity to insult him a bit.)

"Really? Oh that so strange... Because I've never heard of you. I mean, I'm a pretty big baseball fan, but no... nothing about you seems familiar. Were you like on a minor league team or something?" Off in the distance he hears an explosion. "Oh man, cops need to get here quick yo. Sounds like something's happening and I'm stuck here babysitting 'minor league'."

Echo's super agility allows her to keep her dignity before he can make any more mischief for her and plants a kiss on his cheek. This takes the young man completely off guard and his cheeks flush deeply. He snaps the pic with a look of shock, forgetting his plans. The crowd seems to approve, breaking out in mild cheers, gasps, clapping and wolf whistles.

Moments later the patrol car arrives and they pack Blitzer into the back. The officers are polite and professional, though they keep their heads down when the drone cameras whiz by. They take Echo's statement and offer her a NGPD windbreaker she can zip up over her costume.

Things are wrapping up when the reporters start edging in looking for a statement, mostly about the missing crook and happened to him. You receive a message that all three of the heroes who responded to this indecent have been invited to appear on this evenings episode of HERO REPORT, the daily show that recounts the days exploits of heroes and updates the standings. It will only be a 3 minute spot for you guys since you aren't in the Top 10, but it is sort of a big deal to be invited on the show at all. Either they need to fill some time because other heroes said no, or you are trending enough to warrant the exposure.
OOC:
So, no need to roll, I just wanted to see how you would react to the situation. Had you missed the roll, there would have been some more damage control to do, but you came out looking pretty good I think. If there is nothing left you want to do

Location 2: On the Road

Deciding not to pursue the conflict Vitrius lands on the freeway as the armored car speeds away. The police sirens approach from behind, and most speed past the hero. One toward the back of the pack slows to a stop and asks to take a statement for the report of the whole incident, indicating they would like to meet at the bottom of the next off-ramp so traffic can resume, which it has started to do.

The police arrive in short order to cart Fastball off to jail. "Oye! Tell Pinky not to get too attached to my board. I'll be coming for it sooner than ya' might think!" He hocks a loogie toward you but it falls well short as the cops push down on his head and shove him into the back of the cruiser. As that is being done, the press moves in looking for a statement about the missing crook.

I would like each of you to describe how your PC wraps up this scene. Do they talk to the press? Sign autographs? Grab dinner (again)? Also let me know what you want to do next. You have the invite to the news program, but it isn't mandatory. Once I know what you want to do next, we will do our first "Results Rolls" to see how this activity affects your standings.
Apr 17, 2019 1:45 am
Vitrius gives the police as little information needed to seem polite and helpful, but reminds them that a full official report is forthcoming from his corp. He'll also sign a few autographs and pose for a few photos (One thing he likes to do is give out small glass souvenirs, which also let him know if fans are nearby), but not too many as he wants to head back to the original scene, and rendezvous with Echo and El Toro to plan their TV appearance... if they're still there. If El Toro kept the tracker Vitrius might be able to find him even if he's already left. If they're gone, Vitrius will head back to his headquarters to prepare for the news program
Apr 17, 2019 2:12 pm
Echo accepts the windbreaker, allowing her to take her mind off of her wardrobe malfunction. She speaks to the press briefly, making an almost identical statement about how she was glad no one got hurt, and that an official statement would be coming out about events from her sponsor (a tactic she was taught by her sponsors to avoid saying something stupid). After extracting herself from the press, she'll stand around and talk with fans for photos, and autographs.
Through all of this, Echo maintains a one-handed grip on her souvenirs from tonight, holding the hockey stick and having the hoverboard tucked under her arm.
Echo will likely be there until Vitrius and El Toro get there, and suggest that they grab something to eat before the news thing. If only to sit down somewhere to discuss what they should say. If they agree, Echo will hop off really quick to grab her dinner from earlier to give to a homeless person on the way there (its probably cold at this point). If they don't, she'll still hand off her food, but go and get something hot and quick to tide her over.
Apr 17, 2019 2:47 pm
After the cops take Fastball away I'll hang out for a bit, talk to the press, sign autographs, take pictures with fans. All the while I'm subtly using my illusion powers as real time photoshop, touching up reality just a bit to make everything look optimal. He spots Vitrus heading back and decides to follow him back where he'll meet up with Echo as well. Dinner sounds like fantastic option.

Cool I will lock this thread after you all post an answer to these questions...Where do you go eat? Do you go in costume? Any stops before you get there? Alternately you could take the food elsewhere. Also, since this is the end of the scene and the next one at dinner will be restful, clear any stress or Minor Consequences you took, Echo's powers do a bit more, so that happens also.

OOC:
I think there's maybe a go to place for this sort of thing, where heroes go in costume for discrete conversations. The restaurant benefits from this by charging a kind of steep entry fee to the public to dine among heroes. Just my thought

I like the idea of a place heroes can go in costume. If we are going there, Echo will stop by the Arena to lock up stuff in her office and change into one of her spare suits
