Not familiar with Andor. Is there any source material you can point us to for more lore or is this a homebrew setting?
Apr 3, 2019 4:24 pm
Character submitted. Have basic stats and class abilities, still working on the rest but at least you can see an outline.
Apr 3, 2019 9:00 pm
The backstory should have enough detail to give me plot hooks for your character later, but beyond that as you see fit.
It's a home brew setting, but Andor I am stealing largely from the Wheel of Time series, it's my favorite nation from it.

Heck yeah! Wheel of Time is awesome. Glad to "meet" a fellow fan.
I was wondering if you would elaborate on the opening scenario? The kingdom just crossed the mountains. What does that mean exactly? Are we in frontier territory?
I have submitted Thandais Clangdon, gnome summoner. He makes his way in life as an entertainer, comedian specifically. He was always looking for a way to make it big, dabbling in a little bit of everything but guard duty. Physical conflict just isn't his forte.
His last venture involved he bought the contents of an abandoned apartment hoping to find some forgotten treasures. What he found was an ancient tome full of magic rituals. They text told the gnome he could summon and bind a creature from another realm to serve him.
Figuring that the book would be worth a few gold regardless, Thandais gathered the components for the ritual and picked a creature to summon. When the smoke cleared, literally, the wyvern like creature called Vahro stood there peering down at him. Their relationship is a bit strange. Thandais is in charge, Varho has to do as he says, but he is sarcastic and obstinate every step of the way.
At first Thandias was not happy with his purchase. He spent months trying to learn about what a Summoner could do to better control their servants, but made little progress. He told Varho he was just going to banish him and sell the book. The eidolon told him it would be a mistake. Varho claimed to have knowledge that would lead Thandias to a massive magical interplanar treasure. A treasure lost for ages and sought after by kings, warlords, even gods, of the outer realms. Enough gold to make him emperor of a thousand planes. And it was right here on this plane of existence...very nearby in fact.
So Thandias and his servant Varho seek the greatest treasure ever to exist.
I am still working on my portrait for Thandias, but you can visit the character sheet and follow the link at the bottom to see basically what Varho will look like. I chose the Avian eidolon template and paid to have it increased to Medium size and gave it a bite attack and natural armor. So I felt like almost a dragon with no front appendages was appropriate.

I’ve posted a start of my WIP character, I’ll work more after dinner and picking up my child. I think I got the points right for the stats. If I messed up just lemme know I should probably do the calculation before I add in racial bonuses.

How do you read this?
Mystic Past Life (Su): You can add spells from another spellcasting class to the spell list of your current spellcasting class. You add a number of spells equal to 1 + your spellcasting class’s key ability score bonus (Wisdom for clerics, and so on). The spells must be the same type (arcane or divine) as the spellcasting class you’re adding them to. For example, you could add divine power to your druid class spell list, but not to your wizard class spell list because divine power is a divine spell. These spells do not have to be spells you can cast as a 1st-level character. The number of spells granted by this ability is set at 1st level. Changes to your ability score do not change the number of spells gained. This racial trait replaces shards of the past.
So say that adds up to 4, could I pick 1 level 4 spell? Or 1 lvl 2 and 2 lvl 1? Or would it be 4 spells from the list regardless od level?

I'm sure you meant the GM specifically...but it says you can pick a number of spells equal to 1+spellcasting modifier. So if 1+Int mod is 4...you pick any 4 spells from one class list. You wouldn't be able to cast them until you got to the appropriate caster level...so multiclassing would slow your ability to cast them.
So a wizard taking a 5th level spell, would be able to cast it at 10th level. Splash one level of Fighter and you have to wait until 11th level when you are a fighter 1/wizard 10. All it does is add spells to you class list.
Not that this is a bad thing...you can get some really cool spells that way.

OOC:
Wrote this quickly last night while I was waiting for my kiddo to fall asleep.A soft siren song that had been easy enough to ignore at first. It called her west, towards the mountains, towards something in her past and as the years had passed the song had grown louder, more irresistible. Lord and Lady Strada didn’t understand, couldn’t understand, they were humans the past didn’t call to them. The present, the future, these were things humans could see value in but Andariel was different, she was a Sarmaran and her past kept calling.
There had been a gala, a battle, and a fire, the Strada’s had perished, she had perished. A long copper coloured blade thrust through her back, a man in a long fanged crimson mask with burning eyes. He held her face in his blood soaked hands and smiled, looking deep into her eyes as he pushed a second copper blade through her heart and then darkness.
It was a long time before she awoke, usually it was days but when she finally dug her way out of the crypt and found her way home the ruins of the Strada estate was covered in vines and flowers. Two years had past according to the locals and the Strada were all gone, wiped out. There were rumours of a daughter, hiding in the west but nothing concrete. The killers had never been apprehended and the land was now controlled by the Bylaras family.
There was nothing left for Andariel there, her family, her honour were all gone and so she salvaged what she could from the ruins and headed west. Towards her past, towards the future. Perhaps the Strada daughter was there, perhaps there was some honour to be salvaged.

I’m still doing a mental argument with myself between Oracle / Sorcerer... I have an Oracle made up but I’m going to make a Sorceress tonight, it’s good practice.

I'm still brainstorming a story that involves betrayal by someone trusted that turned out to be a charmed by a vampire. Working on it still. Maybe a sibling that was whisked away by vampire nobility - and Elandra hasn't given up hope in finding them.

What all do we have in the party? As far as types, not class (melee, range, spells..etc). I'm trying to figure if I should make my fighter ranged or melee.
Apr 4, 2019 7:50 pm
Well so far Elandra is going to be a melee paladin - Weapon focus warhammer - will def be smashing stuff up close, but she has a short bow just in case. I put my highest score in CHA though (18), for more lay on hands and better spells etc. rather than STR (14). Im still working with a +2 STR mod though - Combatively speaking. However the DM has stated this will be RP heavy so I expect the high CHA will take me places.

Ok this is kinda the backstory I'm working with. Told first person as I so like to do. Please forgive any spelling or grammatical errors.
"My sister Kasya and I were the daughters of a guard captain and my mother, a bard whose wanderlust swept her away from us when we were very little. My father raised us alone and we were inseparable, but alike only in blood, for Kasya longed always to be a fair maiden, married to nobility. I on the other hand was drawn to swords and armor and wished to follow in my father's footsteps. He allowed me to train, but local law forbade me from joining the constabulary as long as he was the captain. My sister would eventually follow in my mother's footsteps and found her talent as a singer and performer, and as her fame grew she drew the attention of the Duke Lucas Brandiston.
Naturally Kasya was taken with him, but I found something about the man vile. He had a way of always getting what he wanted that was unsettling to me, and this was not helped by the fact that he was also very secretive - they met only at night. His thirst for women was know to many, yet Kasya was blinded by her affections. Her affections were hers to give to whomever she chose, this I knew, but I suffered to sit by and watch her be used as a common whore, by a pompous womanizer. I expressed my concerns to my father who was also in agreement and it was then that he lead an investigation into Lucas Brandiston's many romantic forays, many of which seemed to have ended in the disappearances of his lovers.
On the night that Kasya vanished from inner Andor with the Duke in his carriage, my father arranged to lead a search party into the suburbs to Luca's mansion. He forbade me from coming, but his demands were futile. I donned my armor and warhammer and set off with a group of twenty men including my father. We chased Luca's carriage into the night with torches held high, and at the gates of his mansion, an unspeakable darkness greeted us. An unearthly fog hug in the air, and I can not tell you exactly the nature of our attacker, but twenty of the most skilled constables were killed in mere minutes. Up until that night I had never experienced evil the way I had experienced it standing before Duke Brandiston's mansion, nor had I ever experienced such a purity of spirit, for something saved me that night, something protected me. Perhaps the soul of my slain father....a light descended upon me and what ever demonic assailants that had killed my father and his comrades, were kept at bay. I am no coward, but a voice whispered to me to retreat that night and I was spared, and that voice has been whispering to me ever since - to regroup and prepare for a greater war ahead. I feel it now in my blood.....that this is it....that Luca Brandiston is but part of a greater evil. One that can not remain unpunished.....for the death of my father and the perversion of my sister....and for all those that suffered before them. I will not rest until justice is served."

It does... it’s kind of a Meh heal
Heavenly Fire (Sp): Starting at 1st level, you can unleash a ray of heavenly fire as a standard action, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. Against evil creatures, this ray deals 1d4 points of damage + 1 for every two sorcerer levels you possess. This damage is divine and not subject to energy resistance or immunity. This ray heals good creatures of 1d4 points of damage + 1 for every two sorcerer levels you possess. A good creature cannot benefit from your heavenly fire more than once per day. Neutral creatures are neither harmed nor healed by this effect. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Money, gear, hp’s good to go... Are racial feats automatic or do I have to pick them?
Ouch AC... Ouch!
I feel like I should choose something to give me an AC bonus.

That depends do you see yourself as more aggressive or more of a defender. If you’re objective is to defend the realm and you’re a noble I’d go with the shield. If you’re more of a middle class working warrior go with the 2 hander, gets the job done. If you’re either a high class dandy or a street fighter go dual.

I reproduced comic panels a lot. I feel you can learn a lot from studying how other artists do things, but if he is serious about it, he should try drawing from life occasionally. Even if it's an action figure he poses in a cool way. That way he can develop his own "language" of art (or "style" if you prefer, but I dislike that word...it has a lot of baggage for me personally...long story involving a BAD professor.)

I very recently invested in a 5th gen Microsoft Surface Pro tablet-laptop. It was a big upgrade from the 8 year old Toshiba tablet-laptop I had before. The 6th gen Surface just came out or is coming out soon, I guess, so mine was on sale. I have not tried a lot of them, but I like what I have now a lot. In my opinion it comes down to having enough processing power to run your art program. The old one I had would bog down if I added to many layers or text to my drawings, but it was meant for Power Point presentations not art. The Surface I have has an Intel Core i7 and 8GB RAM. It is SO much nicer. The only time I have issues is when it auto saves while I'm working. It's a feature I could turn off...and probably should, but I've lost work on the old machine, so I'm a bit paranoid.
As far as software goes, I used to use a student version of Photoshop, but since getting the Surface I found this program called Krita that is freeware. It isn't as robust as Photoshop, but they did that intentionally to not get litigated out of existence. It handles digital drawing and painting nicely and has a lot of resources from other users on YouTube, so you can watch tutorials to learn. It does not do photo editing...that's the trade off, but that's not what I do personally so I don't need it. Someday I might start a monthly Photoshop account to see if I'm missing out, but for now I'm good.

I do have a Deviant Art account with this same screen name. If you wanted to see what I have been doing. The last thing I posted there using the old Toshiba and Photoshop is the Star Wars togrunta bounty hunter. The four pieces after that are the Surface Pro stuff I have posted. There's more, but I'm not great at getting stuff up on Deviant Art.

Sorry for the delay, with my character, everyone. I'll have my character completed and submitted by tonight. I decided to go with the 2-weapon option. Is there a one-time bonus to skills? A +3 when you put the first rank in a class skill?
A first level fighter gets 3 feats to start, correct?

So on skills, you get a +3 bonus to any class skills that you put ranks into. If I have read and understand everything correctly, this bonus comes into play anytime you put your first rank into a class skill. Cross-Class skills don't ever get that bonus.
So at second level you can add a point to a skill you didn't take at first level and if it is a class skill, you get the +3 at that time.
As for feats, a human fighter does get to choose 3 feats. one for first level, one for being human, and one for being a fighter, but the one from being a fighter has to be take from the specific list of Combat Feats.
