Cinaed doesnt trust the man. He is not found of the Alchemical's. Always seemed too fond of themselves to him. You don't sound to confident about all that. Maybe you would like to have a drink and tell us more abput what you want? His voice is smooth and calm as he tries to draw out more information.
OOC:
Attempting persuasion to find out what he is up to.

Well that won't get us anywhere.

Trissrie and Cinaed:
He looks up at Cinaed, who towers several inches over the man's hunched form, as his face contorts into an annoyed scowl. And who are you supposed to be? Nevermind don't tell me. I'd know who you were if you were at all important hm? His gaze turns back to Trissrie, not quite fully able to wipe the annoyed look from his face. Now where were we my dear? As I was saying, my laboratory is just a few minutes walk and I can reward you most handsomely for your time. Gold, treasures, or perhaps I can even offer you a magical trinket that might entertain you in your travels afterward hm? It will just be a few moments.
May 17, 2019 10:23 pm
Trissrie remains calm in the face of Shigal's brashness, deciding to probe him for information, especially if magic trinkets are involved. "Such a mighty reward for so little effort Shigal of Himir? What consequence will I inevitably pay, for nothing under the blazing sun comes for free."
OOC:
Basically calling him out on the potential dangers of his little experiment.

Laura snaps the coin up, Where is this Barrott, then you get the coin. Appears Laura is less giving now that she didn't get a straight answer. All the while Laura eyes the suspicious man.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+4)

(15) + 4 = 19

Trissrie and Cinaed:
Shigal fidgets with his fingers a bit. Well the research potential is of great worth to me, even if it requires very small effort on your part. It's not every day that one of your kind just shows up in our fair city hm? And anyway, the risk to you is so minimal it's statistically negligible. I implore you again: Leave this fool here and come with me for just a few minutes. He stops fidgeting and puts his hands in his pockets.
May 17, 2019 11:26 pm
Laura and Barrott:
OOC:
Barrott- would you please give Laura a detailed description of what you look like? Unfortunately, Laura doesn't have much to go on as far as description goes, but I will ask Barrott to roll deception and Laura please roll insight

Insight check

Rolls

Insight - (1d20+2)

Cinaed rises at being called a fool. He places both hands on the table and leans down to put his face in the other man's. "The only fool here is a twittering old man from the Alchemicals. You have not shown any reason for this young lady to trust you. You're words have skirted around the truth. Now speak clearly or let us drink in peace." Cinaed keeps a steady tone, never raising his voice, but it is cold and direct.
May 20, 2019 1:25 pm
Cinaed and Trissrie-
The barkeep seems to have taken notice of your conversation. His eyebrows raise as the wizard Shigal makes arcane gestures under his cloak as he mutters a few words. Trissrie and Cinaed, please roll wisdom saving throws, Cinaed with advantage

I am human, 6'1 about 175 pounds. My hair is long, black and pulled back into a ponytail with a piece of twine. My eyes are a bright green but full of sadness. I'm only about 26, but my face makes me seem older. I have a dark, wild beard.

Information comes after payment. Obviously you haven't been around here long.
OOC:
Can I ask why I need to roll the deception? I haven't lied.

Rolls

deception - (1d20-1)

(2) - 1 = 1

May 20, 2019 2:44 pm
Barrott and Laura-
OOC:
Barrott is being deceptive. My understanding is that he was hoping Laura would believe that he is not Barrott, but that he could tell her where Barrott is (for the right price). You could have gone persuasion in theory, but I think deception fits. Anyway, losing the opposed check doesn't instantly let her know who you are just that you're being deceptive (which is something to keep in mind I guess for when it comes up in the future with NPCs).
Laura you discern that this soldier in front of you is not being totally forthright about his knowledge of Barrott's whereabouts. He is definitely hiding something or making some joke at your expense.
OOC:
This means you think its possible that either this man knows Barrott is dead, in the bathroom, miles away, or possibly is himself Barrott (or any other conclusion one might reasonably draw from this information).

OOC:
This guy is cruising for a bruising.

Laura looks over Barrett with a critical eye, I been around here plenty and there seems to be something just not right about you or possibly your info. I'm not sure which. Man behind the bar here says the Barrott is already gone. Now would you be just a playing with me.

She is obviously keeping hold of the gold coin, but not putting it away either. Seems to me that your more interested in this gold coin, than the truth.

She says to the barkeep, A pitch of ale and two mugs. She motion to a nearby empty table as she toss the barkeep the gold coin.

Turning back to Barrett, I have a little time to kill, but so much. I'm a busy lady and my stars are telling to stay here a bit. She turns and strides over and takes a sit.

Laura and Barrott:
The barkeep motions to the busboy you had both noticed earlier in the corner to bring your drinks. As the busboy approaches Laura you see he is not as young as one might expect for one in this profession. Wrinkles line his eyes and his brown hair is flecked with grey. He shuffles over to you with a tray and sets down a pitcher with two mugs. He puts on his most ingratiating smile and his thick mustache curls up a bit. Anything else I can get for you miss?
The man in the corner who had been talking to the busboy stands up and begins to fasten his cloak and armor.
May 20, 2019 11:49 pm
Nothing much else. She carefully slides a silver coin in the busboy's hand, Who is he? Laura nods toward the man fasten his cloak and armor.
May 21, 2019 12:10 am
Laura:
His smile grows wider and you see his immaculate teeth. He whispers to you as he pours a drink into your mug. That information is in high demand tonight miss. Fellow over there paid me 5 gold to know. I'll give it to you for two, but you'd best be about it right away, or I'm afraid Vi will take note. You notice he isn't watching the barkeep as he says this, but the man in the corner, who is pulling on some gauntlets. So what'll it be?
May 21, 2019 12:56 am
Laura five finger slides an additional 3 gold coins in hand as he finishes pouring. That is a bit more for your troubles. I like fine information.
OOC:
I'm tracking my gold expenditures on the PC too.

Laura:
The busboy picks up the coins from Laura as he points to the soldier she had been talking to at the bar. That's the man you're looking for. Barrott Calvert. Best be about your business soon though, I do believe that other fellow(he gestures to the man in the corner, who is finished suiting up and has picked up his weapon, a gleaming heavy sword with a hooked end)has some very immediate and unpleasant plans for him. The busboy starts to try to head to the kitchen surreptitiously.
Barrott:
You can definitely pick up on the fact that a lot of eyes in the room are on you. The woman from before is speaking to the busboy, who actually pointed at you with very little subtlety. The fellow from the corner seems bent on approaching you. There are about six other people in the room. Of those, three seem to have picked up on the fact that something is about to happen and are trying to settle their tabs to get out. Vi, the barkeep, looks to you.You can take this guy. He's just a kid, so maybe you can even go easy on him. Just try your best not to make too much of a mess. I need to go speak with Engar about the future of his employment here. First warning is "Loose lips, lose tips" but he's gone too far this time. Your drinks are coming from his salary today. He starts to head toward the kitchen.
