I finish my drink, ignoring Laura. Instead, I approach the man I noticed earlier. I noticed you watching me. What do you want?
May 21, 2019 2:05 pm
Trissrie:
You suddenly remember. Somehow, you've actually known Shigal for a long time. He might have even done a favor of some sort for you at some point in the past. Details seem fuzzy for some reason. Perhaps this was all some misunderstanding. Your new companion Cinaed seems pretty upset, but perhaps you can explain this all and smooth things over. You feel somewhat inclined to try to help out your old friend Shigal.
Cinaed:
That bastard just tried to charm you! Possibly tried it on the Firbolg too! (This is somewhat abnormal because enchantment and illusion magics, although not illegal, are generally frowned upon by all the wizard schools in the Satrapies).

OOC:
In case there was any doubt, this is the charm person spell. Trissrie is under no compulsion to help him or listen to him, but she does feel as though he is a friendly acquaintance, not an unpleasant total stranger. She might even be more friendly to Shigal than she is to Cinaed whom she has just met. (although I have several friendly acquaintances who I acknowledge are kind of jerks, so maybe that would apply here). May 21, 2019 2:25 pm
Barrott and Laura:
The man throws off his cloak (somewhat dramatically). You see in front of you a teenage half-elf with distinctly drow features. He hasn't fully grown into the armor he is wearing, but he seems sure enough with the heavy weapon in his hand. Barrott Calvert. You killed my father. Prepare to die!
Barrott and Laura, please roll initiative

Trissrie's eyes widen in surprise, suddenly remembering the good times the two of them had. She can't help but laugh at this misunderstanding. "Hahahaha! Oh Cinead I have sinned dearly against you. It escaped my mind: Shigal of Himir is a companion of mine, we've met during my travels... or was it within the heart of the ever-bright forest?"
She scratches her chin and looks at the ceiling, deep in thought. "I shall not lie: my memory has fallen, regardless I am bursting with joy such an event is occurring."

Cinead's anger flares as he realizes what is happening. At 6'4" Cinead is larger than most and his face flushes to match his dark red hair. Cinaed grabs the man by the front of his shirt and pulls him close. You will release the charm or I will break your arms so many times that that no magic or medicine will ever put them right. Do I make myself clear. Cinead's voice is like ice as he speaks.

Barrott and Laura:
(Scale: 1 square=5 feet)
All the patrons flee the bar, except one hooded figure sitting near where the young half-elf had been sitting, who continues to sip their drink, seemingly unperturbed.
Barrott's swords flash as they batter the young man (fortunately for him from the blunt end). The first hit seems to knock almost all the wind out of the boy and leaves him gasping for air, but somehow he manages to evade the second swing.
Laura it is your turn.

Cinaed and Trissrie:
Shigal scowls at Cinaed again. You dare threaten me here? In front of all of these people? I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you go cool off by taking a nice slow walk until you are outside the city gates. He seems to be pinching something small, red, and oily between his fingers as he says this.
Cinaed, please make another wisdom saving throw (no advantage this time).
The bartender looks at Shigal. Enchantment magic Himir? Truly, you have fallen far. What will the academy say when they hear of this?

Is it too metagame-y for me to cast detect magic?May 22, 2019 7:40 pm
OOC:
You could cast detect magic. I think you have enough reason to be at least curious as to what charm/enchantment everyone is talking about. Lets wait on that though until we see what happens with Cinaed's wisdom save (and whether he is magically compelled to leave the scene)May 23, 2019 12:15 am
Laura says as they mess is going on Really this could be settled otherwise than fighting with weapons. She doesn't interfere per say.
May 23, 2019 2:13 am
Cinaed's anger is boiling now. He has always had a firm belief that magic is to protect others and using it to manipulate another person is a grave sin to him.

Laura and Barrott:
The cloaked figure by the wall takes one last sip of her drink and stands up as she turns to the boy. Do not embarrass us today. She then turns toward Barrott and speaks an arcane word. The whole back section of the bar lights up with translucent violet flames.
(Barrott please make a dexterity saving throw)

Cinaed and Trissrie:
Cinaed- you feel again as the enchantment magic tries to take root in your mind. You feel for just a moment that maybe taking a walk outside is just the thing you need right now. You look at the smug look on Shigal's face and your anger overwhelms and resists this spell as it did the charm person spell. The look of triumph on Shigal's face quickly changes to concern as he looks to Trissrie. Come dear. I think we should leave right away. Won't you come help me with my problem in the laboratory hm?

Barrott and Laura:
The cloaked figure smirks as purple flames cover Barrott's body. Although she has tried to remain hidden, in the act of casting this spell you make out that she has distinctly elvish features. The flames spread quickly all over Barrott's form, but do not cause any pain or damage. The half-elf smiles confidently as he swings his greatsword at you.

Barrott and Laura
As the greatsword swings down, Barrott just barely catches the blade with his two short swords and repels the blow. Barrott might be pulling his attacks, but this kid is certainly giving this everything he's got. The look of confidence on the half-elf's face diminishes. He pauses a moment and then lets out a great scream. The boy has recovered in a way familiar to Barrott and the damage he has taken seems to be diminished. This isn't quite the fair one-on-one fight that it seemed to be to start with either.
