Welcome

Welcome to those who I have already accepted. We have discussed your character concept, so go ahead and create your character if you have not already. While the site has a decent character form, if you have a FREE DnD Beyond account, click the below link and you will be taken to MY campaign there. No matter what, you will need a copy of your character HERE in order to apply to the game with it.

Using my campaign, you have full access to the entire Beyond character wizard, including all published sources except Ravinica. Reminder that only PHB races are allowed. When starting out, NO Homebrew, NO Critical Role, NO PLaytest, NO Magic the Gathering, NO Eberron.

Advancement type is Milestone
Hit point type is Fixed
Feats OFF
Multiclass Requirements ON
Ignore Coin weight OFF

Point Buy for ability scores.

I will need you to have a character image applied to your character sheet here. That way, when you post as your character, the image shows. I really don't like blank avatars. Also, I use your image to create map tokens, so find something you like and apply it.

If you have questions, feel free to address them here. I'll be posting some basic house rule stuff soon.

Here is a sample of a game map taken from one of my other games. The tokens were taken from the player images of their character.

Sounds great, I'm looking forward to Ghosts of Saltmarsh dropping so we can get started. I'll get to work on finding an avatar and transferring the character to DnD Beyond presently. I was thinking that during the next week while we wait for the content that I'd like to refine the backstory and fill it in with some more detail and maybe some potential plot hooks if that's alright.

Oh geez, Flynn's here! Hopefully our characters get along a little better here than in the other game, heh.

Let me know when you feel your characters are done. I'll look them over. One of the things I want to do is get a feel for how you would all like to start off. In my Greyhawk Adventures game, I started each PC out on their own thread, and slowly wove them together over the course of a couple of months. Most seemed to really enjoy it.

On my Heroes of Geoff game, everyone started together and they worked their way to the adventure site. It gave themn an opportunity to RP with each other and they had some encounters that they worked through so when they arrived, they knew each other's story. lastly, in my Gigantic Adventures I just dropped everyone outside the hill giant fort. They had to gel faster, but for the most part it is working out.

I like the idea of characters starting off on their own thread and gradually being woven into each other's story. It sounds like a slower start, and more work for you, but there's something compelling about it. It feels more organic and immersive.

I'm up on Beyond and, now, here on GP. This site is new to me so please bear with me a minute to get familiar with it, otherwise looking forward to a good game!

I'm good with however you want to start out personally. I'm usually the DM, going back to the late 80's, so any chance to play a character is great to me so I'll be easy as far as these choices go.

I'd love to hear what classes everyone is considering so far. The character I pitched was a paladin, but I have a few other concepts I wouldn't mind trying if something else fits the party dynamic better.

I've got a human Ranger from the Gnarley forest, ex-soldier in the Greyhawk Wars who becomes a sort of Hermit by the time the campaign starts.
May 15, 2019 7:40 pm
Excellent! Does your ranger favor melee or ranged combat?
May 15, 2019 7:53 pm
He will be melee. For some reason I've never liked the bow for characters. I'll use them, but I prefer a melee guy. Even in Modern and or SciFi games I tend towards melee types.

The threads are fairly long and varied, but if you check out my Greyhawk Adventures game, you can see how the characters moved through their threads, only to be herded like cats to the ultimate starting point.

It isn't really more work for me, other than dealing with individual threads, and it lets players post at their own pace until the party finally meets. Once the group is fully assembled, we can hash that out.

NZ, being new, a heads up- when you post in a game thread, you have the option of posting as you or your character.... sometimes I forget and my profile picture shows.... you can always go back and edit it.

Also, I will be adding some house rule stuff in the OOC threads. There is content there now if you have not read. Mostly boring stuff, but the combat rules I would check out. Basically helps with the flow of things when we get going.

Ok so in case we want to diversify our talents, I'll say the roles I'm envisioning for my character are
1) Face skills
2) Support caster/controller
3) A little bit of healing

Right now, we have a human ranger and (potentially) a halfling rogue. Completely up to you. I loved your updated concept. :D
May 15, 2019 10:33 pm
Yeah that's what I'm going with. Working on it as we speak! I think it might be fun to keep it a secret for now. Sounds like a well balanced party so far.
May 15, 2019 11:41 pm
I'll be sure to read over everything you post so I can be up to speed by game time.

All players (and one additional DM) have been accepted. For your character creation, please post in the other thread. This thread shall be used to welcome and discuss generalities.

Welcome to my world, peeps. :)

Mention of the Greyhawk Wars reminded me that there is a "history" to Oerth that goes beyond what I knew from the box set from the '80s. I may not be nearly as familiar with the setting as I thought I was. I'll have to read through some of the later books.

Also, I'm still unusually busy at work (well, I'm not, but others are so I'm picking up some of their work). Coupled with a dentist appointment today and heading out of town tomorrow, I may be light on posting. There's nothing really special about the mechanics of my character, so I'll get something up tonight. I'll fill in more details next week.

Thanks McDunno,

No real hurry. I'd like to have characters done and fleshed out prior to the book dropping on the 21st, but I was not planning on starting until June, so there is plenty of time to get things done.

I also want to reiterate that Greyhawk knowledge, while fine, is by no means required. I'll be able to provide whatever knowledge or resource you need. Typically I give players links that I think might be helpful regarding their characters, so if there is something specific you are looking for let me know.
