Shore Leave: The Bar

Cass looks at Stone, grins, then winds her way through the crowd to the booth her friends had been sitting at. She slides in and says to Zephyr, the only person left in the booth, "Where's Nic?"

Alira moves to the table for a second.

Sorry for all the noise Commander, but people were talking about leaving. Nic left and people we going to follow. Plus a couple of people were rumbling about helping themselves to booze, so Moira took over the bar.

Alira notices that the song is coming to an end so she points at Cass.

Commander, your turn, what do we sing next? You start, we will jump in.

Cass is already about to ask Alira for clarification - Did she say Nic left? During a lockdown? - when the lieutenant points at her and asks her to start a new song. Of course, the young woman has no way of knowing that this is one of the things Cass hates most in the universe. It's possible - possible - that, if Nic were still at the table, he and Cass would have come up with a song (probably a pretty raunchy one) that the two of them would have performed together. But all the black holes in the universe couldn't drag a solo song out of Cass.

"The last thing I'd want to subject these good people to is my singing voice," Cass says with a semblance of loud good cheer. "I'll leave it to the next person in line."

Alira hasn't been pushing anyone, she wants this to be fun.

Oh, and can someone crowd surf an ale my way?

Moira obliges.

Cass leans toward Alira and shouts to be heard over the din. "Did you say that Nic left the bar? Isn't the lockdown still in effect?"

OHHHHHHHH WHEN YEH HEAR THA WORD TURTLEDOVE YEH THINK OF A BIRD WHO IS DELICATE, TINY AND GREEEEEYYYY

BUT WHEN YER JEST A TURTLE WHO’S DEAF AS A ROCK, YEH THINK YEH’VE GOT A CHANCE ANYWAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!

Alira leans in.

He and Moira were sparring, nothing too salty, and he just said he was leaving and would be at the party this evening. He was gone before I could stop him.

She takes a drink of ale.

Sorry, he was gone before I could get to him and I knew if I went to get him, it would lead to a stampede out of here.

Cass shrugs. "Well, he's a big boy. If he runs afoul of resort security, I guess that will be a lesson to him. Well, no, it probably wouldn't." Also, if that did happen, he'd probably be calling her to help him out of the jam. "Sure seems like it's taking them a long time to get control of the situation, doesn't it?"

Maybe you should check in on the comm, tell them people are getting antsy.

Nodding agreement, Cass fishes the communicator from her pocket and activates it. "Commander Cassano to Lt. Norton. We have a substantial crowd holed up in Stone's Bar, and some of these people are getting pretty restless and impatient. How's the search for your suspect going? Any chance people can go outside soon?"

"That's great news, lieutenant. So you apprehended the woman you were looking for?"

"Well, that's interesting," Cass says, standing. Holding up the communicator, she adds, "I'll return this while I'm at the security office. Zeph, Alira - see you at Darcy's."

Catching Moira's eye, Cass gives her a little wave and leaves the bar, heading to the security office.

Alira sits at the bar.

Well, I am glad that's over. I think I am going on adrenaline. Believe it or not, but I hate public performing.

She finishes her ale.

Can I just get a tall cold glass of fruit juice please.
