Kama rushes forward first to give his companions free reign to make their attacks, the goblin raises its sword in a feeble defense, but it is easily cleaved in two by his mighty axe. Its two separate pieces slump to the ground, spraying Kama with blood.

Hollow raises her crossbow and hits the goblin in the shoulder before he can engage with Kama, he staggers but remains standing.

Xora fires her arrow, but it goes far wide of the mark, striking a tree nearby.

Wish's arrow strikes true, slamming into the goblins chest and piercing his heart, laying the goblin low

Goblin 2, seeing what Kama did to his friend, steers clear of him and instead goes for the pretty little tiefling, swinging his sword wildly at her. His wounded shoulder holds most of his attention as the jerking motion of his attack tears the muscles further, he misses by a wide margin and loses his weapon in the process.

Goblin 4, seeing how dangerous Kama is fires an arrow at his chest, missing the mark by a long shot. The arrow embeds itself into the ground a dozen feet behind Kama. Seeing that the battle is turning against them quickly he slips back into the woods. You are all too distracted to see where exactly he went.

Goblin 1: Dead
Goblin 2: Wounded and unarmed, 4 damage
Goblin 3: Dead
Goblin 4: Unharmed

Goblin 2 is unarmed between Kama and Hollow, and Goblin 4 has disappeared

Wish, seeing that the goblin is open to attack, dives into a roll to the side to get a better angle. Coming up on one knee he launches an arrow right into Goblin 4's eye, lifting him off the ground. He slams down a few feet away, dead.

Kama charges to the treeline, fresh blood steaming off his armor. "Where'd the other one go?" he growls, about ready to leap into the undergrowth. His current demeanor is a stark contrast to the previous jovial banter on the wagon.

"No doubt it went to report back to its commander. They did not expect anyone travelling along this road to be ready for their attack. We should move on in case their camp is close. We don't want to be here if it comes back with reinforcements."

Walking over to the horses blocking the road, Hollow pulls a handkerchief from a pocket and holds it over her nose.

"We should see if we can tell who these poor beasts belonged to. If they had connections or family in Phandalin, we should let them know what we found."

Hollow leans over and begins going over the horses, looking through saddle bags or packs or whatever they may have on them. A few seconds later she turns away wrenching, something seems to have upset her stomach. ((because of the 1)

That'll teach those assassins. They'll have to do better than that, now. I've got friends now.

Wish calls out to Kama: "Do you see any sign of it?"
He trusts the half-orc to find the straggler. Kama has given every sign of extreme competence.

Wish retrieves one arrow and checks the dead horses with Hollow.

"I'll see where that bastard went off to." I search the ground for clues and traces.

OOC: what do I add if forests are my favorite terrain? Would that be another +4? Or +2?

Kama's eyes flit along the trees, straining for any telltale sign of where his quarry went. He waits for Xora's investigations, taut like a drawn bow, ready to be let loose.
Oct 31, 2015 4:08 am
Kama is unable to find the goblin that ran off, he is nowhere in sight. A quick a look at the horses makes it apparent that they belonged to Gundren and Sildar, your employer and his guard.

Wish and Xora are able to find that some goblin tracks lead to a barely noticeable path through the thicket on the north side of the road. You are able to make out at least a dozen distinct sets of small humanoid tracks as well as what appears to be marks as if two human-sized objects were dragged off this way. The tracks and drag marks lead to the north-west.

Determine a marching order. I will consider this your standard marching order unless otherwise indicated.

I tell the others what I've learned and insist on leading the pack. "No one can track this path better than me. Anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves."

"But I..." Wish stops himself. Xora IS an excellent tracker, and even though Gundren seems like he needs help, they can all work together. Wish clears his throat and revises what he was going to say. "By all means, lead the way, Xora. I'll bring up the rear and watch our backs."

Wish is trying not to show how distressed he is about Gundren's safety. He looks at the cart of Gundren's supplies and shakes his head. Finding out what happened to Gundren is more important!

The half-orc exhales slowly, mentally releasing the energy of battle from his mind and body. Kama returns to the cart and makes a visual check on the condition of everyone inside. Satisfied that no one else is hurt, he gathers the remainder of his weapons. Then, after a pause, he glances between Hollow and Seipora, and finally says to the younger girl, "You stay with the shipment. And use these if you have to." He places both of his small handaxes in the cart, within easy reach. His tone is even, belying a seriousness that will brook no retort in this situation. "We'll be back after we look around."

Kama slings his large maul over his back, then hefts his greataxe. He turns to fall in line behind Xora, taking second position, and nods at the group to indicate his readiness to move out.
Oct 31, 2015 3:47 pm
The party heads out, Xora taking the lead, then Kama, with Hollow and Wish taking up the rear.

The trail, now that it's been discovered, is easy for Xora to follow. About 10 minutes down the trail Xora spots a snare, which she easily points out to the others and avoids. Another 10 minutes down this trail, Xora once again proves herself as an expert guide, pointing out and easily avoiding a pit trap in the middle of the trail, cleverly covered by the goblins.

Following the goblins' trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path on the other side of the stream leads into the cave.
Oct 31, 2015 8:33 pm
*Where did that goblin go...?*
Wish surveys the scene, peering closely at the cave entrance.
*Great, a cave. We'll need to get out torches...what was that?*

Kama peers ahead. He is not trained as a scout, so he defers to the trackers and their opinions on the best approach to the goblin lair. He waits in a crouch while they assess the situation.
Nov 1, 2015 1:49 am
Wish, paying close attention to the other side of the stream, can hear what sounds like a goblin shout from the other side of the thicket. Paying attention for a minute he doesn't hear it again... maybe his imagination getting the best of him?
Nov 1, 2015 7:39 am
Before heading out Hollow gathers her people around her and they all silently look at each other. The two servants give curt nods several times, Seipora's expression stretches into worry but she remains silent. After a few moments the pair of servants moves off and begins working on getting the dead horses off the road so the wagon can pass. Then Hollow takes off after the rest of the party.
Nov 1, 2015 4:57 pm
Wish looks at the others and points wordlessly to the thicket. Then he draws an arrow, nocks it, and glides forward to investigate.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+3)

(12) + 3 = 15

Nov 1, 2015 5:00 pm
The thicket is on the other side of the stream, to investigate you would have to cross. If you choose to do so, you will have disadvantage on your stealth check due to splashing through the water.

The thicket begins at the edge of the stream on the other side, about 10 feet out from the entrance to the cave. It appears to curve inward, away from the cave mouth, but you can't tell much more than that.

Edit: I am going to take away the Disadvantage for Wish, due to being a Water Genasi.

Wish easily crosses the stream, which is only about 2 feet deep, and peeks around the curve of the thicket. He sees two goblins around the corner, both with bows; they are obviously guards of some sort but they're not paying too much attention. to whats going on. They are playing a game with dice on the ground.

The goblins are about 10 feet away from where Wish is standing, should he decide to take a shot he will have advantage on the attack.
