Cass barely registers Nic's comment as she takes better aim at the female gunman and fires her phaser.

bowlofspinach says:
The woman fires a shot at Theliak. She hits him in his arm and he falls to the ground immediately. Julia screams and the woman aims her phaser at her head. "One wrong move and this girl is dead, too"
Hearing Julia's scream is enough to draw Alex out from under the table. She climbs out, hands held open and out where they can be seen. "Leave her be. If you need a hostage, take me instead," says Alex. "Just let her go. She has nothing to do with any of this, please. Just don't shoot anyone else. It doesn't have to come to that."

Those who have been around her recognize the 'negotiator' voice. Calm, measured tone, with just a faint sternness. The voice of an authority figure speaking to another on equal terms.

The leader manages to hit Moira right in the face. She will definitely have to get her face checked out by spacefleet medical after this is over. It hurts a lot but she can't be certain whether or not there's any real damage. She does manage to tackle him in response however and the two of them go to the ground together with Moira on top of the man. Immediately when they hit the ground, the man reaches for the knife. The phaser is out of immediate range but Moira could try to get closer to it and reach for it but she would expose herself to an attack in the process.

Alira hits the woman's gun arm and pushes it away from Julia, knocking the phaser to the ground in the process. Unfortunately, in that moment, Alira moves in the way of Cass' fire and takes the full stun blast of her phaser. She goes to the ground and loses consciousness. Seeing the person right next to her go down to phaser fire, the woman ducks and narrowly avoids Nic's phaser beam. With a hint of fear in her eyes, she reaches for a steak knife on the table and, taking the easiest option, grabs Alex, putting her between herself and the phaser fire, the knife pressed against her neck.
Alex notices that Julia seems to be panicking. She keeps looking from Theliak to Alex and back, unsure on where she should go and in the end, not really doing anything because of it.
"This has gone far enough!", the woman announces, pressing the knife firmly against Alex' neck. One move and it will penetrate her skin. "We are going to leave now and if you want this woman to survive, you are not going to try and stop us!"
Jun 11, 2019 5:49 pm
Cass maintains her phaser aim on the woman who is now holding Alex hostage. "Okay, let's just stop and talk this out for a moment," she says calmly, all traces of the panicky "lieutenant" persona now gone. "There are some things you don't know that you're going to want to know. The first of which is that I'm Commander Cassano."

Zephyr, having taken cover up until now since he was not carrying a weapon (and even if he was how would he get to it from within his feathery suit), notices the phaser fall to the ground. He locks eyes with Vega and nods toward the phaser silently, hoping she gets his drift. He then slowly stands with hands in the air and positions himself in between any phasers and Julia. and says, Julia, come over here behind me.

"The second thing you need to know is that you've just..." Cass hesitates, searching for how to qualify what's happened to Theliak, "...taken out the only other person with command code access. Now, I think we can assume that resort security has been alerted after all this shooting and commotion, so if you're looking for a hostage, I'm the obvious choice, from your perspective."
Jun 11, 2019 6:18 pm
Alex, from where she stands with a knife at her throat, can't quite shake her head like she'd like to, so instead, she simply calls out. "Stop trying to protect me, all of you. They're not going to do anything stupid." Short breath. "I am Commander Shawna Cassano of the USS Potential, and these well-meaning individuals are simply trying to keep me out of danger. You have the one you want, so please let these others go about their business and I'll acquiesce to your requests."

Cass gapes in angry astonishment as Alex claims to be her, then pounds the ground with her left fist several times. "Auugghh! Will you idiots stop trying to impersonate me! I'm a big girl, for crying out loud." Trying to regain her composure, she continues, "The person with the knife to her throat is Lt. Commander Alexandra Lloyd, my subordinate. You can ask her daughter." Cass points at Julia.

Moira wants to continue the ruse, but decides the phaser is her best bet. She'll get sliced, but it's worth it.

She rolls sideways, hoping any hits land on her fleshy bits and not on major joints.

Alex mouths the word, 'subordinate?', with eyebrows arched, but seeing as there's still a knife pressed to her neck, she'll keep her mouth shut for the time being.

Quote:
"Julia, come over here behind me."
Julia looks back at Zephyr but doesn't go to him. Instead, she moves over to Theliak, keeping her eyes on her mother but wanting to see if her fiance is still alive.
Lisa kneels next to Alira and checks her pulse and breathing.

The woman steps farther back from the table, trying to get some more distance between herself and everyone else. She still has Alex at knife point and Alex is getting the distinct feeling that if she doesn't relax the way she's holding the knife, Alex' neck won't survive this much longer.
Quote:
"Now, I think we can assume that resort security has been alerted after all this shooting and commotion, so if you're looking for a hostage, I'm the obvious choice, from your perspective."
When Cass says this, the woman responds: "You're the good guys, aren't you? If this shit goes wrong for us, we'll end up in a holding cell, big deal. If you make a wrong move, this one is dead."

The leader doesn't go for the stab. He allows Moira to go for the phaser and uses that time to get up. He still has the knife in his hand but he raises his hands slightly to indicate he's not going to attack again right away.

He then looks at Cass. "I don't know what game you people are trying to play here but it ends now. I don't care about these fucking access codes so I don't care if you are Cassano or not. We are leaving now and you are coming with us to ensure nobody decides to try and stop us." As he is talking, he moves away from Moira. He points at Alex, wh ois still being held hostage and moved closer to him by the woman. "If you disagree, she dies."
Jun 11, 2019 7:15 pm
Cass carefully places the phaser on the ground and holds her empty hands aloft as she climbs to her feet. "No objections. I'll come quietly. Just don't hurt anyone else." She stands and waits for the man to tell her what to do next.

Moria keeps her phaser trained on the situation in case they try to go back on their deal.

Alex says nothing, and does not struggle against her captor. She does give Cass a bland sort of stare, as though mildly unimpressed with her choice of actions. Julia would recognize the mom look a mile away.
Jun 11, 2019 8:03 pm
Cass sends Alex a look that plainly responds with, You're not the boss of me.
Jun 11, 2019 8:17 pm
Moira sprints for the woman holding Alex and jumps on her back.

Knowing that her preferred plans would get Alex killed, Moira watches in abject horror as she's taken hostage. Again. And her commander's life is at stake. Again.

She steps back to Nic and speaks sideways at him in a harsh tone.

Are yeh gonna lend us yer ship, or am ah gonna hafta comandeer it fer Spacefleet?

She's not really giving him an option.

The leader waits for Cass to come up to him, then he takes her in a hold similar to the one the woman is holding Alex in. He's holding his knife to her throat but not as tightly as the woman is doing. The leader looks at the unconscious man they're leaving behind. "Make sure when security picks him up, they give him a comfy cell."
They move backwards until they reach the corner of the house and disappear behind it.

Table Crew

Cassandra curses loudly and sinks down to her chair, the phaser still in hand. Helena runs over to Theliak to check his vitals with Julia. Nic gets up and sighs. In response to Moira, he says: "My ship is on the other side of the sector. I can order it here but it'll take a while." He walks over to Alira to check on her. Lisa is still leaning over her, looking very scared. Max walks over to Moira. He has kept his head down during the encounter and still looks pretty shaken. "What do we do now?"
Vega takes a few deep breaths, then turns to Zephyr. "I swear I did not know any of this would happen."

Hostages

The attackers lead you onto the road and then into the garden on the opposite side of it. There is another man waiting there. He looks a bit older than the others, blond and more elegant. He doesn't fit the rest of the group.
He's armed with a Consortium phaser rifle and his expression is confused when he sees the group arriving. The man holding Cass says: "Change of plan. We have to leave now."
The man raises his phaser rifle and fires a stun beam at both hostages, knocking them unconscious.

Moira nods at Nic.

Well, do it, then. It may be tha only chance we've got.

She's already drilling away at her datapad trying to latch on to the signal sent by Cassano's communicator.

Unless anyone's got an issue with it, ah'm hereby pulling rank on this operation. Give me a sitrep on Theliak an' Alira. Max, help them. Cadet, call security again. It's takin' them too damn long. Her eyes glance briefly to the other Lieutenant Commanders, seeking confirmation, but they land on Zephyr and Vega.

An' what, pray tell, did you do this time. No smirks. No smiles. No lies. Ah've got two crew members aboot ta die because a' yer "charm."

Helena stands up again after checking Theliak. "He's alive. If I didn't know better, I would say these people lied to us and they did have their phasers set to stun" She smiles at Julia who is sitting on the ground next to Theliak, touching his hair and looking very relieved. Helena then walks over to the table and searches under the table by her seat. She pulls out a commbadge and says: "I'll talk to security"

Nic leans over Alira and slaps her face hard enough to wake her from her unconsciousness. The phaser wasn't set to a very high level. As soon as Alira opens her eyes, Lisa hugs her tightly. She's not saying anything but Alira can tell that she's crying. Nic grins and says "Sorry for that but welcome back to the land of the living" before his expression gets serious again.

Cassandra walks up to Moira and says: "Technically, Helena is the highest ranking officer of our group" She looks over at her sister who's fiddling with her commbadge and who slightly shakes her head at this. "But it doesn't matter now, I guess. How could this have happened? It's supposed to be impossible to get phasers onto the planet. And with the additional security on site, someone should have been able to stop these people."

Vega looks between Zeph and Moira, her usual facade of carelessness is dropped a bit, although her real expression is still hard to read. She doesn't reply to Moira's question and instead leans against Zephyr for him to hold her.

Working on her datapad, Moira realizes that there is heavy interference that makes the use of communicators as well as finding them like she had wanted, impossible. The attackers must have set up a device to stop anyone from calling for help. The moment Moira notices this, Helena also gives her the same information.
