I think it an interesting choice regarding your thoughts for a starting point. While perhaps Saltmarsh would be a destination (why?) Gradsul is a much larger town offering much in the way of knowledge (books, guilds, a huge amount of sea trade, etc).
Saltmarsh has been around a while, and has a history, so going there would definitely be something a loremaster would seek to do, especially with the pirates, illegal trade, naval battles between Keoland and the Hold of the Sea Princes, etc. Perhaps you begin in Gradsul and something there triggers your desire to head to Saltmarsh?
