Any more thoughts on your back story regarding the mysterious 'thing' or event? Regardless, I have been thinking about the route you may have been traveling. From the Pomarj headed west through Ulek, maybe Gryrax and Gradsul as you look to explore the Dreadwood near that town?

Lone travel? Or would you have taken up with a merchant caravan? Straight into the woods or perhaps skirt along the southern edge, using the king's roads that edge along the waterways?

I see Gyre as a loner at this point, although not an anti-social one. Loner more by way of his self-imposed hermitage. He would be skirting the Kings road I think and exploring Dreadwood sounds good. He is definitely an explorer and curiosity is one his of traits.

As for the mysterious thing, I didn't get the change to dig into Greyhawk this weekend like I expected (family stuff) but if you have an idea i'd be happy to riff off of that!

I don't really have any big ideas offhand. The lands were settled long ago by migrating Oeridian, Suloise and Flan tribes as they migrated eastward after the Invoked Devastation. The woods are ripe with old tombs, temples, fey artifacts, etc.

Perhaps something to do with Iuz the Old? A demon who now rules his own lands up north and who was the chief instigator of the recent Greyhawk Wars? You maybe found tidbits of information that lead you to believe that, while his forces were beaten back eventually, he is up to no good here in the south?

So you found some creatures in the Suss forest that were indicative of his shock troops, and managed to learn that things are amiss to the west as well?

Perhaps Iuz is looking for Xodast Xuel-Crix's Tome of Research in ruins found within the Suss forest. Maybe since his initial plans that sparked the wars didn't work out in his favor, he is trying to use the tome that caused the Invoked Devastation to his own ends? I came across some of his scouts, which included mages and/or priests, searching for the tome and discovered that Iuz is up to something.

.... of course after I typed this I saw an article on Greyhawk Grognard's blog that gives like 4 different interpretations on the Invoked Devastation, the Gray Wastes, Rain of Colorless Fire etc... oi!

:) Feel free to use whatever you want, but this sounds like something promising. You want to find it before they do, and the trail is leading you west. You have heard that even though it is a very small town, someone in Saltmarsh has a fairly extensive library, and you thought it might be a good place to look into the history of Keoland and the surrounding lands.
