Shore Leave: The Warehouse

Alex rolls her head to each side, stretching out her neck. As Hector completes his questions, she sighs softly. "Lt. Commander Alexandra Joan Lloyd, born July 24th, 2321, Manhattan, New York, United States, Earth. I'm here on shore leave, and I have to say, after a lovely start, it's become not the least bit relaxing."

She clears her throat and continues. "I have dealt with the Naplican Empire in my duties as a member of the diplomatic corps, but I am in no way associated with them beyond that, nor have I heard of a man named Mehtak or Project Great Flood. But I can't say the name fills me with joy and anticipation."

Endra removes her hand from Alex' skin. She takes a deep breath and nods without saying a word.
Hector looks satisfied as he turns to Cass. "It's your turn now. You see it's completely harmless."

Cass looks at Alex. "I need to hear it from her. Are you okay?"
Jun 13, 2019 10:08 pm
"My head hurts as bad as it did this morning, but I’m not roast chicken, if that’s what you’re asking."

Alex’s faintly grumpy half-smile, half-grimace looks genuine enough. To Hector, she says, "You can ask her the same questions, but deviate from that script and I’ll have to object."

Cass takes a deep breath and nods her assent to Hector. She's ridiculously nervous about this for some reason. Given that she's faced mortal peril several times recently, it's odd to be so worked up over a set of innocuous questions, but she supposes it's the aspect of having little choice that's bothering her.

Endra moves on the bed, sitting between Alex and Cass now and puts her fingers on Cass' face and neck, searching the right spots with her fingertips. Cass feels that same dull pain rise in her head as Alex did.
Once Endra gives the okay, Hector asks Cass the exact same questions he asked Alex, word for word.

Cass gives a slight start at Endra's touch, probably because she's managed to place her some of her fingertips on the areas of her face and neck that were damaged by the Veron's acid. Fortunately, Alex has prepared her for the headache. After Hector asks his questions, Cass begins to answer them.

"Commander Shawna Juliana Cassano, born in Sacramento, California, United States, Earth thirty years ago..." She grits her teeth and continues, "...tomorrow. I'm on this planet because the universe clearly hates me, and like any Spacefleet officer, I know quite a bit about the Naplicans, but I've never had any dealings with them myself. I've never heard of Mehtak or Project Great Flood, and I'm predictably thrilled that they seem to be commandeering my much-needed shore leave."

Endra nods and a relieved smile appears for just a second in Hector's face before it disappears again and he asks Cass: "I'm sorry but I have to ask for clarification. Why are you on this planet?"
Jun 14, 2019 5:28 am
Cass side-eyes him."I literally just said I'm on shore leave."

"You did not. You said you are here because the universe hates you which could be an evasive answer to hide a different motivation. Just answer the question and we can move on."

"The last thing I said was that I don't know Mehtak or Project Great Flood, but I'm thrilled that they are commandeering my much-needed shore leave. I've answered the question. I'm. Here. On. Shore. Leave."

With another nod, Endra removes her hand from Cass' face. The headache almost fully disappears but it leaves a light but noticeable uncomfortable pulsing as well as a slightly uncomfortable itch in the scars she was touching behind.
"As much as I appreciate your colorful way of speaking, Shawna, I'm afraid Endra needs clear answers if she wants to determine whether you're telling the truth or not. It's easier to sneak in a lie in a quick aside mention than in a clear and precise sentence." He turns to Endra. "Thank you. Release their cuffs please. I believe they have proven themselves and we should start showing them that we are not their enemies."
Endra pulls two datachips from her pocket and uses them to unlock first Cass' cuffs and then Alex'. "No, I hope you two stick around", she says, slapping her hand on Alex' back as she gets up to go back to the table. "You're much more fun to be around than most a' these people."
Jun 14, 2019 3:28 pm
Cass rubs at the itchy places without thinking, then stops herself. "Hang on," she says to Endra. "What's this pulsing sensation I'm feeling? I was under the impression that this wouldn't leave any aftereffects."
Jun 14, 2019 3:35 pm
"I left myself a killswitch in your brain, love. If you don't do whatever we tell you, I'll set it off", Endra replies with a straight face but a hint of amusement in her voice. She waits a second before clarifying: "It'll wear off within the hour. Your brain is just not used to the sensation. I can't maintain any mental link without physical contact."
Jun 14, 2019 3:52 pm
Alex stiffly accepts the slap on the back, but gives Endra a flat sort of stare in response. "We're not friends. We may not be enemies, but we're not yet friends," she says blandly. "Now... it's time you start telling us why we're here, and why all this production."
Jun 14, 2019 3:53 pm
Cass smirks at Endra's joke. "Okay, fair enough. Thanks."

Turning back to Hector, she says, "I believe you were going to show us something?"
Jun 14, 2019 8:28 pm
Hector looks both of you in the eyes for a few seconds, first Cass then Alex, before he starts speaking: "I am Commander Hector Andoras, spacefleet special forces. My team and I are here on direct orders from Admiral Tanner. There is a conspiracy involving high ranking admirals in spacefleet command that have allowed this planet to be infiltrated by Naplican agents. Planet security is compromised and since unknown members of command are involved in this conspiracy, no formal investigation into these matters can take place without risk of alerting the traitors within the ranks of the admirals. By staging terrorist attacks and forcing planet security to call for outside help themselves, we are allowing Admiral Tanner to launch an investigation without prematurely showing his hand." He pauses, gauging Cass' and Alex' reaction to his explanation. "Questions?"
Jun 14, 2019 9:12 pm
Cass sits in silence for a moment, looking at Hector, then at Alex, and back to Hector. Then she huffs an uncomfortable little laugh.

"Do I have questions? Uh, yeah. A few. Let's start with this. When you raided our dinner party, you claimed to be looking for command codes and demanded that Theliak and I come forward. Later, you said you didn't care about the codes anymore and didn't care whether I was Cassano or not. So which is it? Were you looking for Theliak and myself for other reasons, or did you actually need command codes? And if you're working for the admiral, why the hell would you need my command codes?"
Jun 14, 2019 9:31 pm
"Stolen command codes are a serious security risk that would have to be reported and investigated immediately. I have no need for your command codes, I probably have a higher security clearing than you, actually", Hector explains. "We were not planning on taking any of you hostage but we needed to do something that would force planet security to take action."
Jun 14, 2019 9:36 pm
Cass has to admit that the explanation makes sense. "You said you have documentation to prove what you're telling us. Let's have a look at that."
