Send in the Clones part II: Captain Botaroo

Jul 29, 2019 9:45 pm
Captain Botaroo was 'put on hiatus' ten seasons ago due to its unusually high fatality rate - high for a children's show anyway. Since then, Captain Botaroo, his friend, Mr Citizen, the humorous Isabel INFRARED, the heroic Vulture Captain and of course, lovable Foodvat have all faded from the Complex's collective memory.

Now remembrance of those happy half-hours come surging back as you stand at the top of the access tunnel and face a door labelled 'Captain Botaroo Studio D47.' Beneath this label, a dusty hand-printed sign says "CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.'

Cart and his bot, GR8-Spot are already at the door.

The tunnel is a dead end at the door, The music is echoing all through the tunnel, but it appears to be emanating from behind this door.

"OMG! There is a part 2!" I mention metagamingly as I reach the top of the ladder ;)
"knock knock, who’s there? I knock at the door, assuming more Junior Citizens are in the other side

"Musical mission success! We found the source!" Cart did a little jig in front of the door, and Sp0t followed suit. "We can now return with our report, yes?" He had evidently forgotten whether there were other mission objectives. Surely the Computer did not expect them to put a stop to the music, or did it?

"Ooh, what's up there?" Brett says as he climbs after his friends.

As If by magic, the Mysterious Brett R WYD-3 appears at the top of the access tunnel.

The door responds to Will as if it had never heard a knock-knock joke as it fails to ask, "who's there?"

Cart: Don't call me Shirley.

I look behind to see if the kids are still there, disappointed that the door has no sense of humour.

"Shirley you jest!" Cart saw the Computer's humour in their knock knock knocking on haven'ts door, having come so close to their objective. Cart reached out and turned the handle of the door, a gave it a push.

Will sees the kids below at the bottom of the ladder.

When Cart enters the studio, the door shoves over a tall stack of plastic boxes. The boxes fall with a crash breaking open and scattering hundreds and hundreds of ping pong balls. They roll all over the floor, bouncing everywhere.

But they don't seem to affect the dozen or so youngsters who are leaping around the studio, shooting their INDIGO-barrel lasers, cone rifles, gauss guns and tanglers.

The studio is about 50' square. It's a large empty room with a bare concrete floor and soundproofing tiles on the walls. A lot of dusty light fixtures hang from the high ceiling. A couple of old vidcameras stand neglected in the corners.

There's nothing in the studio except several large stacks of plastic boxes like the pile you've just knocked over, and the kids running around playing Vultures and Communists.

On the far wall are a large soundproofed door and a long plexiglass window with a recording studio on the other side. You just glimpse a bunch of kids in there, hunched over some equipment. It looks like they're singing or something, and the treasonous music is very loud in there.

"Hey hey! Where's the adults here? I try to get the kids attention as they... are they shooting real guns?
Jul 31, 2019 6:06 pm
"Woah! What chaos! Thank the Computer for such realistic looking toy weapons!" Brett mused as he watches from behind his companions. "But if this way leads to the theatre, then we must figure how to clear these kids out..."

"Impossible Indigo!" Cart watched the scene before him. "Perhaps we ought to record what's going on here, as evidence." He looked at the other two, forgetting who still had the multicorder.
Aug 1, 2019 9:18 am
"splendid idea! We must record all our cleaning efforts for training purposes !! This mess is far too traitorous!
Aug 1, 2019 9:59 am
Brett proceeds to record the madness in the room, taking in all the youthful traitorous behaviour. "Ladies and Gentlemen! I present to you... The Battle of the Young!"

The troubleshooters stand in the tiny hallway filming and narrating the battle of the young.

Meanwhile the three junior citizens from behind come climbing up the ladder. They are all yelling and screaming and calling things out speaking over each other.

My name's Flash Indigo

NO! I'm Flash Indigo!

You're always Flash, You're Foodvat

The first tiny head peers in through the access tunnel.

Oh Hi. You guys are playing now. I'm Flash Indigo and you guys are commies

A second later he hoists up a rifle and unlocks the safety.
Aug 1, 2019 10:09 pm
"Ah commies! Where?" I turn to the room with all the kids and point inside "There! They are hiding in that room behind the glass Flash Indigo!" I throw my hands in the air hopelessly and add "Save us from those traitors framing us Flash Indigo!"

"Ah, Flash Indigo! My, you look so much younger than I last remembered! As for us, we are not commies! Do commies carry around multicorders and record your dashing heroics?"

Cart pulled out and loaded the rifle he took from one of the boys earlier. "We're the Vulture Squad, here to save Isabel INFRARED, we must go now!" Still trying to persuade the kids to stop, Cart began to move into the studio, heading for the next stack of boxes for cover.
