Sarith nods to Mai'ngor, tilts his head to Elayna (an indication to keep an eye on her), and begins moving up the ladder. As he reaches the top, he shouts down, "We've got company!" and you can hear his swords being drawn.
As you reach the top of the ladder, you see Sarith swipe at what appears to be a being made of shadow. As Sinag's light pours into the chamber, the shadow creature fades away, leaving the chamber well-lit and quiet. This chamber is empty aside from a ladder leading to a trap door in the ceiling.
"Perhaps Sinag and I should lead," Mai'ngor says. "Shine brighter, Sinag. Protect us with your light." As the sword's circle of radiance grows, the tikbalang leads the way up the ladder.
Sarith shakes his head, "Some sort of demon, I think..."
As Mai'ngor climbs the ladder and pushes open the trap door, he arrives at the top of the tower. There is nothing up here that he can tell aside from four monstrous-looking statues.
Melpomene bashfully pulls back a curious hand that was drifting toward one of the statues. She tucks both hands behind her back while peering closely at the statues, trying to see if she can place their subjects.
Sarith shakes his head, "I'd guess that the demon is still down there. If we're done here, it's best we leave in Sinag's light."
Melpomene has no reason to believe that these statues are anything but normal gargoyles. It's hard to say why they never activated when you entered, though...
"Back the way we came, I guess," says Elayna. "We'll just stick together in the light of Mai'ngor's sword and keep our eyes peeled. Maybe on the way out, we give that poor soul a proper burial."
