Soooooo....
I just watched Valerian and the city of a Thousand Worlds. Don't feel bad for me. I did it to myself. Instead, feel bad for all those brain cells I'll never get back.

Joking aside, even though that movie was terrible, the setting is amazing, and seems like it would be ripe for a scifi rpg. I'm checking to see if anyone is interested in an rpg set in the setting. Probably starting off in Alpha, and then moving onto a starhopping adventure if it lasts.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the setting, it's a pretty classic space opera with some dimension hopping mixed in. The titular city of a thousand worlds was originally the international space station. As humans kept going into space the ISS kept getting expanded with each nation that made it to space adding to the station, until we encountered aliens. Then the aliens started adding to the station. As we encountered more and more aliens, the space station kept getting bigger and bigger, until it got so big that it needed to be moved away from earth. Fast forward a few thousand years and the station is now called Alpha and there are something like 8 million different species on the mega-station. It has a wide array of different biodomes to support different kinds of aliens.

I could DM, but fair warning, I don't have a lot of experience running PBP games. If I ran it, I would probably do starfinder as I'm more familiar with those rules than anything, but someone recently told me about Tiny Frontiers, which seems really simplitic and I could probably pick up. If some one else wants to take the wheel, I'm happy to let someone else drive and be the DM.
If you're interested, post here and tell me about what kind of game you want to play. Ideally you should say what your focus is (combat or RP) what you like in a campaign, and anything else that would be good to know for a DM.
For me, I like spaceships, so expect a lot of those.

Oooh, I'd be interested! Starfinder sounds good, I have a little experience with Pathfinder so it should be easier for me to adjust. I'd probably be more focused on rp but would enjoy combat sprinkled in. Spaceships sounds cool, maybe like a single spaceship between a team/group of PCs?

I loved that movie. I've been wanting to watch it again. Granted, the characters could have used a little more fazuzz.

edited original post to describe the setting a little more

I think the movie is in the same universe as The Fifth Element, if that helps.

You know you want this in your pack!

Valerian et Laureline!

Please keep me in mind if this ever becomes an actual thing.

Interest has been pretty lack luster but I certainly will do. Full disclosure, never read the comic.

Really, anything sci-fi related. I'm a HUGE fan of science fiction, more science fantasy really, since I don't care too much about the tech following our scientific laws.

I guess the trick is distilling the cool setting to a great adventure. For that I have no good ideas.

A good mix of players vibing together, and an attentive, invested DM will make for a great adventure.

You mention lack luster support, but I'm actually encouraged to support the idea simply because I dont feel like I'm swimming in a tsunami of potential applicants.

Hope this one gets started. I've been looking for a reason to get familiar with either pathfinder or starfinder.

I mean, I'm a HUGE fan of the Cortex Plus Drama system, but that's not for everybody. Depending on what types of interactions you're most interested in, you could really have fun with it. It's not a lot of crunch for experienced RPG-ers, but it's heavy on the drama, interpersonal relationships, political tension, really anything social/interpersonal.

I could also see Fate working very well for this. Again, less crunchy, but quickly adapted to anything, really.

I'm not familiar with that system. If you wanted to take the reigns in dm'ing, you certainly could. If I wind up running it, it's gonna be starfinder just because I'm familiar with the pathfinder system.

I'm always interested in a good RP-heavy space opera game. I would probably be interested, regardless of system. I'm less excited about Fate, mostly because the one game I played in Fate died quickly and I still don't quite understand how it works. But I'm willing to try again. The Cortex Plus system sounds pretty interesting too. I enjoy a good social/interpersonal drama.

I'd be interested if you settle on Starfinder as the rule set.

I would be interested too and just picked up starfinder core book from the library.

I'll definitely give Starfinder a try if that's what everyone is up for. I haven't looked at the rules yet, but I don't imagine it's too different from Pathfinder.

Starfinder’s not that different from Pathfinder in mechanics. It’s pretty easy to pick up if you’re familiar with Pathfinder. I found the character options to be a little uninspiring, so it wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’d be willing to give it another shot.

I'm less into class-based systems since trying other skill-based or trait-based systems, but I did enjoy Pathfinder. Any system than scratches my sci-fi itch sounds good to me!

I'm in starfinder game that stalled before it got started. I really wanna play with the starfinder rules. And I'll rewatch Velarian movie and 5th element again to get in the right headspace

Why don't we get a sound off of who is interested still and if we get enough, say 5ish, we'll start a game.

Here is the link to the game page.
https://gamersplane.com/games/2024/. I started a session 0 thread for character creation and for you guys to have a little bit of in put on the game before it gets fully rolling.

Got room for another? I've got Starfinder and would love to even go through character creation with the rest. Plus, Valerian!
