Hello everyone! o/

Ya'll can call me IGW or Wild, either is fine ^^.
I have no knowledge about any tabletop games or RPG-systems whatsoever, but I've been curious to try it out since I recently discovered Critical Role (I'm only on season 1 episode 11 or something...I'm very new at this, lol). Another Youtube channel I discovered is Encounter Roleplay. I wasn't too keen on the idea of doing face-to-face or voice-to-voice stories because my life and house isn't ideal for games that can run hours at the time....and I'm shy.

But despite me being a dice virgin, I do have 15+ years of writing experience. I write the occasional Fanfiction, and collaborative Free-Form Roleplays. For those who don't know what that is; you're basically just writing a story together with 1 or more writers through the character's POV (usually 3rd person or 1st person.) And I also have the occasional Worldbuilding project, I'm big into Lore :P

So I thought, why not spice up my writing by throwing in a game system? It can create some challenges and obstacles for my characters instead of pre-planning every stroke of bad luck or badass moment with others. Placing their fate in the hands of the dice gods sounds like a nice change.

But I admit that I am a -slow- writer, it can take me an entire day sometimes to come up with a reply and I have chronic health problems (but I always warn my writing partners if I go poof). But my replies are CHUNKY and detailed. So I guess that makes up for the wait?

Not sure what else to say :P Writing is a passion and Worldbuilding an obsession, lol.
Feel free to ask anything! o/ : 3

Welcome IGW! As a fellow writer, I say your instincts are write. There is an interesting cross-talk between the writer and the gamer brains, and I anticipate you will be rewarded for the effort.

As to games, you seem to be familiar with the concepts of D&D 5e through the amazing Critical Role group. Any other genre or system interests?

Thanks for the welcomes ^^

Oh, well there's another game I'm following over on the Encounter channel and it's a call of chthulu game. Probably spelled it wrong but I am a fan of HP Lovecraft and the system looks cool and easier to follow than D&D for me. :P
I discovered that I find Skill-based systems more interesting then level-based ones or those bond to classes that only get the same set of abilities/skills/knowledge. Skill-based seems to allow more character background variety. I also like how CoC keeps age, appearance, and education in mind as well.

I played Call of Cthulhu (the adventure from the current Starter Set) on Sunday at a con. It was really well done, with a clock/time bomb plot and escalating horror.

Skill systems are pretty cool, I agree.

Ooh, that does sound exciting. :D

There are at least two things going on here that are more writing exercises than straight ahead games.

There is a shared world building game where you write a response to events that happen in your country.
And a game that is an episodic tv show in the Star Trek universe where each player is a character in the show and the Game Master is the producer of the show.

Long way to say...welcome and I am sure you will find something to your tastes.

Hey, Wild! Welcome. Cthulhu games start up here fairly regularly, so keep an eye out for one. It's a good game!

Welcome to the community, IGW!!

Don't forget to check out the New GP Member Guide.

We have a Writer's Workshop that may interest you.

There was also a free-form storytelling "game" before where lone survivors of the zombie apocalypse had begun to come into radio contact with each other. It was pretty neat. If I can just find the link...

If you're interested in spectating, here is an index of public games.

We'd love to have you join us on the Discord server as well for real time chat about the site, RPGs in general, and just about anything!

Happy gaming!

Welcome to the site!
If you have experience writing and roleplaying online, then the jump to PbP shouldn't be too hard. Just keep doing what you know, roll some dice from time to time and you're set ;)

Hiya, and welcome fellow newbie.

This sounds like an ideal creative outlet for a slow writer.

You might want to a gander at the link Jabes.plays.RPG provided and see how PbP compares to critical role. I think you'll find the possibilities exciting.
