Verrian has just finished hugging Wil and turned to grab Ember when the Hunter makes its presence known.

"No magic!" she yells to everyone, simultaneously sharing her words to ensure that those who can't hear her get the message. "It neutralizes and absorbs magic. It may even use it to get stronger!"

She pulls a dagger, then looks at Wil and hands it to him. "You'll be needing this."

She draws her other dagger and her rapier and prepares to fight.

Wil takes the dagger with a smile of gratitude.

He turns and yells towards the prisoners.

Vesina, keep everyone moving. Magic is no help, my friends and I will handle this. If we fail, destroy the bridge and keep running.

He turns to Verian.

Glad to see you, and you made friends. Not as many as I did, but not bad.

He laughs and moves towards the hunter with a dagger in each hand.

Wow, you are an ugly...one of whatever you are. You are the only one I have seen, but I sense you are an ugly one.

Ember’s relief that she and swan didn’t have to do this alone turns to horror as she observes the Hunter, hears Verrian’s warning.

With a weak "snap" the tip of the bolt she’s readied ignites. She has to know.

I'm slowly working on an appropriate battle map. For now, you should know that the hunter has just stepped from the fire gradually engulfing the area. Anyone approaching to melee range will need to make a Fortitude save DC 15 to avoid damage from the heat.

I have made a very rough battle map. Still need to roll those Fort saves for anyone that closes within 20' (4 squares) of the fire line (orange, top of map).

The hunter does look a little worse for wear after its trip through the raging fire behind it. Whereas before, it appeared half-covered with bare human skin and half with the mottled black patches of magic-absorbing material, the half-human part is now blackened and charred. It doesn't seem to be significantly affected by the damage however.

It crouches as though ready to jump, its arms elongating in now-familiar fashion into tentacle structures, though they still end in humanoid hands curled into claw-like shapes. As you watch, you see shapes starting to build from the tops of its shoulders, though what they will become is not yet clear.

Yelnar charges to engage the Hunter with his Bardiche, looking to make it harder for the creature to advance on his companions.

The hunter dodges, its body reshaping itself to avoid the slashing bardiche. It might seem a little bit slower to do so than when last you met it, however.

"Yes, yes... you're the one that cut me," it purrs at Yelnar. "We'll see how you enjoy having the favor returned."

As Yelnar chastises the Hunter, a flaming crossbow bolt zings by. Ember seems more focused on the Hunter itself.

At least fire does something.

Elora moves up 15 feet, and pulls out a piece of chalk. She draws a very rough sketch of a circle with three tips pointing inward. While she's doing this Pip flies to the circle plucks a feather and leaves it in the center. Flying back to the top of her hat Elora stomps on the drawing, ruining it completely. "You straddle the line between Discord and Rhyme!" Afterwards she falls back, out of strangling range.

BTW -- Elora can move and hex, but not also move back away in the same turn. So if you have to be within 15 feet of the hunter to use the hex, make sure your token is placed properly.
Yelnar's smart remark seems to catch the hunter's attention. A low growling sound rumbles, and it swings both tentacled arms at Yelnar with vicious speed.

Both tentacles strike only glancing blows, though it appeared initially as though they might both clobber Yelnar. Instead, they slide just enough away to do no damage.

Swan moves up, "Yagnut, watch out!" His fingers find an arrow and he let's it fly as his words begin to spill forth, picking up the refrain from his last song.

"Stand and fight! Live by your heart, always one more try, I'm not afraid to die!"

Swan's arrow does not sing nearly as well as Swan himself, whizzing off into the night to find its fate in the fire.
