RoAries, where is Li when he is contacted by Goodie (I'm guessing that's your one guy)
OOC:
That was my assumption, yes :)

OOC:
Actually, I’ll set the scene then you can come in with the contacting.
We see the train that Trevor is on come to a station just as he presses send on a message, which pings on a terminal across town. A small office, obviously once used as a lounge room but now converted into a makeshift police station, with news clippings and photos pinned to a cork board and a handful of computer screens, mostly older screens but with a handful of new ones. The message pops up on the only one situated on the desk on the side, and a bleary-eyed Li Chua Ming steps into the room with a coffee in hand.
OOC:
Feel free to change any of the details here to match your character more appropriately, I just went with something that seemed cinematic. I think Li still would have backdoor access to the police systems, though if you want to start hacking into higher up areas we’ll have to do some rolls

OOC:
I'd like to say that your description is more generous than what I have in mind, but I might still make some changes.
Chua Ming lives in the upper level of a rundown store front. The old man that runs the pawnshop below don't care much for his resident, in fact he almost never have to see Mr Li, as the vigilant often came in through the hole in the roof. They both tolerate each others existence for the protection that they each offer.

Chua Ming's room is very crowded. There are computers with cables sticking out sitting on his sturdy desk. They are likely stolen from those that can afford its loss. One of the computer in particular has the access and passwords to the police database. How he manage to nab it though, is through a combination of luck and skill. The walls are covered with newspaper clippings and notes on papers. Strings are lined throughout the mess, like a conspiracist's board.

Chua Ming was taking a nap when the computer sounded with a message alert. He groggily wakes up, and takes a seat infront of the monitor while taking a few swigs of a bottle nearby. "What's this now? Good Child, huh? What trouble is he in now?..." He then opens up the message.
OOC:
Edit: changed his response

RoAries says:
"What's this now? Probably another favour from GoodChild..."
OOC:
Just as a reminder, the nature of our relationship is that I once really helped you out on a case, and in return you helped get some charges I had against me dropped...
Goodie stalks through the station, his kefiyeh pulled up over his mouth, the angular anti-facial recognition make-up cutting a stark line across his left eye and nose.
//:Top 'o' the morning, officer Li. I know it's been a minute, and that I said we were square and all... but I have a friend who needs some help. Like, police-type help.
//:...
//: And... I heard that you need some work?
//:I mean I'm sorry you're not with the force anymore, but you know how that place operates. You're better off without them.
//:I don't know exactly what the scope of the situation is, yet, but it's work. I'm sure my friend can pay.

The Chua Ming scans the text, and felt a tinge of curiosity. It is true that he had not much work lately. Being out of the Force and having to resort to scaring thugs and hunting for abandoned yet useful junk does not pay as well. The trinkets he finds are handed to the pawnshop below as way to pay for his illegal residential fee.

He begins typing back to his contact.
"You got my attention, pal. I could do with some exercise, if you know what I mean. Do send me more info for this job you found, and I may consider if its worth my time."

Goodie sends Li the pertinents, the main inquiry being if anything "big", significant or large, has been reported to the police as missing or stolen, or other official channels. Something up to shipping-container in size.

Mr Li takes note of the clues Goodie has, and begins to do his part in scouring for info in the police database. He sifts through cases of recent thefts, and hunts for those that are particularly big or valuable. Anything that looks interesting, he messages back to Goodie.

This sounds like a good place for a roll. I’ll give you some surface level stuff for free but let’s see how deep you get. I’ll let you use detect or prowl, and remember you can discharge push dice to bring in adjectives or equipment. I’ll say you’re aiming for a 3 to apply the adjective exposed to the police computer network

OOC:
I'm am not 100% sure how rolling works. I'll take Detect. I have 1 in it. I'll roll 1d6 first, let me know if there is something I have that I can use push dice on.

I have made my roll. I believe its a pass.

Rolls

Detect(1) - (1d6)

(3) = 3

OOC:
So that's a fail, but I recon you'd be able to bring in "Mischievous", "Courageous" or your cyber-arms. They're neuro-linked and quick so realistically they'd help with typing fast. A reminder of how push dice work, you have 3 to start off with. You can discharge them to add them to the roll, but success makes the adjective apply but momentary. You can burn 1 push dice that you haven't discharged to make it sticky, which means that it's true until something major changes, or 2 to make it permanent. Burning them means that you give them to me to make your life difficult later on, (I can use them to add to rolls against you or just increase the difficulty of a roll) then when I use them you get them back.

So if you'd like to use any of your push dice to try to turn that roll into a success, go for it. I think you're meant to decide before you roll but its early in the game so I don't mind fudging the rules until we get a handle on everything

OOC:
Alright, let me know if this is right:
Mr Li wears a Mischievous grin as he gets into the groove of infiltrating the database. His Neuro-Linked cyberarms are great at making him type Quickly. He aims to not take too long as he snoops around.

Rolls

Using 3 push dice - (3d6)

(243) = 9

OOC:
how is it?

OOC:
You rolled a 4, which makes it a success! I'll note here for future reference, the second 3 that you rolled would have added to the initial 3 to make your result 3.1 (or "more than 3") which also would have counted as a success if you hadn't rolled that 4. So that puts the adjective of "exposed" on the police computer network. As you have no push dice to burn, that adjective is fleeting, so your access is revoked at the end of this scene, but you can see whatever you like inside their networks until then.
Mr Li started off by scanning through the highest priority open cases, expecting to see nothing and discovering that he was correct. A few murders of high profile socialites, the arcologies always had internal politics that the metro police were theoretically in charge of following up on, but Li knew that they would never get resolved. Either way, he made a few notes on the obvious suspects that would never get spoken to. Bloody system, even the loss of upper-class life couldn't break the stranglehold that money had on the police.

Then he delved deeper. We get a shot of him focusing intently on the screen in front of him, the still drawn curtains blocking out any natural light as he is illuminated only by the white-blue glow of the computer screens as his arms move impossibly fast typing away. Suddenly he stops, and we can see on the screen a small text box the initial report of a robbery from a warehouse that has been hastily blanked out, and a separate report on an anonymous tip off the next day of illicit drug activity that referenced the same warehouse, with a single follow up line, "Central Narcotics have assumed jurisdiction"

Then we have a shot of GoodChild's phone receiving the intentionally censored Intel.
