Since Psyche has neither availability or License/illegal status, like alcohol, I assumed it was legal
"I do not have anything of the sort, but I probably still have Psyche in my system. Why?"

OOC:
It is, no worries, but it's also left as n/a for a reason...
The officer, unfailingly polite in the manner of all Japanese, "Thank you for answering honestly. We respect that the country from you you came may have different laws than we do. We request that you refrain from recreational drug use when you are in Japan." It was apparent that this country had a different view of drugs than England.

"That will be all Mr Etienne, you may -" Her statement was cut short by the entry of another similarly dressed civil aviation officer, but this one was accompanied by an armed member of airport security. The new person took over the questioning, still very politely, but much more seriously. "Mr Etienne, we require a statement from you as to the contents of your checked in luggage."
Jan 25, 2020 9:18 am
Since he was dealing with a polite and very Japanese officer, Hotaru answered in fluent Japanese "Of course, my apologies."

Still in fluent Japanase, Hotaru answers the second officer with a genuinely puzzled expression on his face. "Well of course, it is drone prototypes registered to Tengu Corp, the Mitsuhama subsidiary, based here. May I inquire what the issue is?"
Jan 25, 2020 1:09 pm
"Please come with us." The senior officer and the armed escort led Hotaru out of the office and through a series of corridors. Hotaru had the sense that they were moving away from the passenger terminal proper, and towards a different part of the building. his hunch was correct, they exited a door, and actually crossed a few metres of airport ground, to reenter a smaller structure, with the logo of the Japanese civil aviation authority printed on its doors. The main corridor they entered looked more like a depot or warehouse, and it opened out to a larger floor space where Hotaru could see a number of vehicular dollies were moving carts of luggage in and out of the facility, and some smaller remote vehicles transporting items about. A central control room above served to remotely control many of these drones.

They finally reached a room on the side, where another security officer was waiting for them. Inside the room was Hotaru's large travel case. "Mr Etienne, once again, our apologies for the trouble. We have some questions, and we require you to open your case. Did you personally verify the items within yourself?" The officer pointed to the RFID chip that confirmed that the luggage was indeed Hotaru, and waited for him to use his personal commlink ID and electronic key registered to him from Dillon Harper earlier to open it.
OOC:
To do so, it is of course assumed that Hotaru would reboot his commlink. (Whatever else you power up of course is entirely up to you. ;) ;) ;) )
Jan 25, 2020 7:17 pm
Still in Japanese : It is not my case, but the property of Tengu corp. I am merely the carrier. As such, I did verify the case and the chip when it was entrusted to me, I did not open the case."

While explaining that to the officer, Hotaru reboot his commlink and RCC. Without touching the case, he verify if the chip info have changed since he last saw them, comparing them thoroughly with his SIMRIG recording from a few hours ago. He also activate Max and ask him mentally to do a Olfactory analysis of the case, noting any relevant change from past data and flagging any contact with the Olfactory profiles of the previously recorded suspicious characters.

Rolls

Perception (Hotaru) (Noticing change in data) Int8+Per5 - (13d6)

(3325264136142) = 42

Olfatory (Max) Sensor 2+ Clearsight 9 - (11d6)

(66161263213) = 37

Jan 26, 2020 12:52 am
OOC:
Are you intending to do all those actions stealthily (ie. activating your console, scanning the chip data to see if it's been tampered with, comparing old and new data, activating Max, getting Max to make an olfactory scan, and comparing Max's data, etc), without letting any of the personnel in the room know that you're doing so?
Jan 26, 2020 1:07 am
OOC:
No stealth. Hotaru proceed along slowly, with a business as usual attitude. If asked he will stop and/or explain that, while he is not aware or responsible of the content, he is responsible of its integrity.

Also, do I understand that Dillon gave Hotaru the electronic key to open the case? If so, did he tell anything about avoiding to open it? And lastly, do I understand that the officer are aware that Hotaru as that key?
Jan 26, 2020 2:26 am
OOC:
Yes, an RFID tag was placed on the case earlier, and Dillon gave Hotaru the electronic key, which is essentially an encrypted code which serves as a password for the lock on the case. The button on the lock will still have to be pressed once the code is sent to the lock. The RFID tag registers the case as belonging to Jacques Etienne, which was what showed up at the Gatwick airport immigration checkpoint when Hotaru checked in his luggage. So the officer would know that if the case indeed belonged to Hotaru, Hotaru would have the key for it.
"Sir, stop what you're doing." The armed security personnel reacted to Hotaru evidently activating his drone, and hefted his baton, ready to defend.

"Mr Etienne, our request was to open the case. You may use your code to unlock it, via your commlink. Please refrain from taking any other action which might be miscontrued as an act of non-compliance." The officer was still unfailingly polite, but he still had to enforce airport security protocols, and appeared to have send a security notification to the control room on alert. Hotaru had misjudged the invitation to open his case as an invitation to freely act.

As Hotaru tried to explain what he was doing, the officer paused, then said, "Just open the case first, if you please."
Jan 26, 2020 3:39 am
Hotaru shrugs and add in Japanese :"Please note that I was not allowed to verify the integrity of the case before opening it. Any damage or tampering will will be the airport responsibility to compensate Tengu Corp."

While talking, Hotaru do check mentally the RFID tag and, if there his no change, he use the electronic key on the case and vaguely gesture toward it with his hand : "Voilà."

Was there a job title or description on Watanabe's buiness card Hotaru received from Dillon?

OOC:
I intend for Watanabe to be one of your listed contacts, the father's friend corp executive, in Japan. The equivalent of Dillon, since Dillon's is largely irrelevant moving forward.
The border security officer said nothing in reply. They were used to meeting thousands of travelers, all of whom didn't like it when their baggage was checked and asked to be opened.

Hotaru opened the case. The first item inside was a long black metal bow with a handle on top and a clasp which latched it shut. The border security officer had put on gloves to pick up the box and set in aside on the table. Underneath the box were two MCT Hornets. Designed in the shape of a tarantula hawk wasp, but larger, roughly the size of a human palm, they were safely encased in foam to prevent them from being damaged in transport. The case was much deeper than that though, lifting the first layer of Hornets revealed two more, for a total of four drones. Next to each of these was a chip, presumably containing the code key to sync to the drones. These were correctly listed in the luggage contents scan when Hotaru checked them in, so everything was in order. So far so good.

The officer then opened the small black box. Arrayed inside the long box were eight tiny canisters. These were cartridges to be inserted into the Hornets. A Hornet could carry one cartridge in its abdominal cavity, to deliver a dose of whatever the payload was. Six of them were clearly labeled, a mild narcotic to non-lethally paralyse its recipient. The other two were unlabeled, their contents a mystery.

"These are not registered. Do you know what they are Mr Etienne?" The officer asked.

Just then, two more security personnel entered the room, behind Hotaru, apparently the ones contacted earlier.

Hotaru was still on full alert under the influence of Psyche, and something about the two new officers who entered the room seemed wrong to him. The woman approached the table where the two civil aviation personnnel were verifying the contents of Hotaru's case. The other stood behind, just out of the line of sight of both Hotaru and the armed guard who was watching all the proceedings attentively, hand still on his baton. She flashed what appeared to be her credentials to the two personnel, and spoke to all present. "We shall have to impound these canisters for further investigation. They may contain substances that are not permitted in Japan. Assist this man ... Mr... Etienne... , in the administrative procedures required." She signaled for the two unidentified canisters to be replaced into the box, and took the entire box. The two civil aviation officers were perturbed at her instructions, but were compliant, and made no move to stop her.

Even without the assistance of Hotaru's other sensory scanners, he had already stored the data of those he had monitored earlier. This woman seemed to correspond to the business woman who had boarded the same plane as he did earlier. And there was something familiar about the other officer behind him. But for some reason she didn't look like the same woman.
OOC:
If you want to take some more 'interesting' actions, I think now would be the time. :D :D
Jan 27, 2020 6:05 am
People often mistake an augmented metahuman like Hotaru as being faster than normal, that is not quite correct. It would be more accurate to say that they just have more time available to analyse a situation and decide their course of action. Hotaru's heightened sense knew instantly something was wrong when the new "officer" entered the room. By the time the woman had finish speaking, he took an educated guess, compared your the stored data in his commlink, noticed both the similar marker and the unexplained change in appearance. He took all that data in a overlay, with the 2 image and the identifying markers clearly identified and he broadcasted it visually in AR, making sure the first officers and guards received it. He added to the data a clear warning that he also ran in audio in a classic monotone alarm voice through his commlink in repeat (i'm guessing an internal commlink still as a way to project audio) :"(In Japanese) Warning, Warning, this woman is not who she appears to be. She changed her appearance to access restricted area."
OOC:
If there is actions left, Hotaru will finish activating his RCC and anthrodog, stealthily this time while everybody is distracted by the autoritative woman and the warnings signs.

Before I make the next post, roll all your Initiative dice, ie. roll 5d6. We'll use them in order: the first 3d6 for regular or AR initiative, 4d6 for cold sim, 5d6 for hot sim, in case we need all the numbers. Also roll for your doggy's slaved initiative! I'll start counting up your major and minor actions.

rolling Inits

Potentially, what kind of action would it be to load the paralyser in a hornet and to active it linked to my RCC?

Rolls

AR init Int8+React4 3d6 - (3d6+12)

(344) + 12 = 23

Cold sim Init Data Proc 7+Int 8 4d6 - (4d6+15)

(2461) + 15 = 28

Hot sim Data proc 7+ Int 8 - (5d6+15)

(43532) + 15 = 32

Max the anthrodog pilotx2=4 + 4d6 - (4d6+4)

(3123) + 4 = 13

Jan 27, 2020 10:29 am
OOC:
Regarding initiative dice, I was asking that you just roll 5d6 only, rather than 3d6, 4d6, as well as 5d6. This is so that we won't have the absurd situation where say you roll high for AR (eg. 5s and 6s) or Cold sim, but low for Hot sim (1s and 2s), and end up with Hot sim being slower, which makes no sense. For clarity, I should've said roll 3d6+1d6+1d6, so that:
AR Init = Int+Rea +3d6
Cold Sim Init = DP+Int + 3d6+1d6
Hot Sim Init = DP+Int + 3d6+1d6+1d6

In this case it matters slightly. It's our first time ever trying to roll, so I'll use the 5 dice you rolled for Hot sim in their order, so 12, 15, and 17 respectively, giving you 24, 30 and 32. How about that? :)

Actions-wise for the Hornet,
Load Weapon (cartridge into Hornet) = Major
Control Device = Major (this may require a test depending on whether Hotaru has user/admin access to the Hornet)
Change Device Mode (activate the Hornet) = Minor
Command Drone = single (first) command to all drones is Major, each subsequent command to individual drones is Minor

Compared to your Inu currrently, which is already slaved to you,
Change Device Mode (activate the Inu) = Minor
Command Drone = Major or Minor, depending

Currently, I'm treating Hotaru's status when the two persons enter as: your commlink is on (always), and you've secretly activated your cyberware. Activating the inu secretly is probably harder, I'd include that as part of entering the Initiative phase. (Unless you want to try to roll Stealth activation vs opponent's Perception, before I start Initiative).

Let me know if there's more to clarify. Happy to answer all questions before we resume and I post.
Jan 27, 2020 5:18 pm
OOC:
You have seen Hotaru's stealth :p No, stealth roll before they are more suspicious of the woman than of him.
Jan 28, 2020 7:47 am
OOC:
Alright, let me do initiative first.
Next, I'll rule that what Hotaru was doing while the woman was talking is somewhat similar to a Use Simple Device action and a Send Message action (roughly 1 Major and 1 Minor). I assume Hotaru entered AR mode to do so. For the officers to see what Hotaru projects in AR mode, they'll have to be in AR mode as well. The two runners are understandably on high alert, so I'll be giving them a Perception roll to notice anything out of the ordinary. All this occurs before Initiative.
You may have to revise your last post though. Your commlink (and control rig) is headware, ie. an implant. Accessories such as a trid projector or a speaker can normally be attached to a handheld one to project trideo and sound. I know you were guessing that an internal commlink can still project video and sound, but hmm, it's in your head. :D :D What do you think? (Unless you imagine that Hotaru has some cyborg structure attached to the outside of his skull, and that structure contains various gadgets?

Rolls

Civil Aviation Officer - (1d6+4)

(1) + 4 = 5

Armed Guard - (1d6+6)

(1) + 6 = 7

Female Human - (4d6+10)

(1212) + 10 = 16

Male Orc - (2d6+9)

(36) + 9 = 18

Perception (Female Human), gives Edge - (12d6)

(222213336126) = 33

Perception (Male Orc) - (8d6)

(14515321) = 22

As they say that even the most basic commlink
[ +- ] basic commlink
comes with those things integrated, I would suggest that a betaware headware would have ways to include the same fonctions. I would see a micro cable that can extend, exiting from behind the ear and under the lobe, to be used as trid-projector, external earbud or external speaker/microphone.

Also, wouldnt AR be kinda the norm and not the exception?
Jan 28, 2020 1:19 pm
OOC:
Basic commlinks certainly have all those functions. But they'd be micro versions of the actual equipment. Eg, Trid Projector is a full-sized device that projects a 5m square hologram. The micro trid projector in a commlink presumably projects much smaller, I'm thinking palm-sized to maybe something at most 1m square. But sure, I like the idea of say, top-end deltaware consisting of micro gear that can do crazy things.
Regarding AR, I think physical reality is default, and people toggle to AR when they need to. To perceive AR, people need an image/sound link installed on something, like a commlink, or they need trodes. Hotaru's headware are direct neural interface (DNI), so he doesn't need extra equipment to perceive AR. Hmm, does this mean in your mind, in the SR world most people are wired up for AR inside their heads (implants or trodes), or are constantly wearing equipment that does so, eg eyewear, ear interfaces, and AR gloves? Interesting... I could certainly play it that way... ;)

Ok back to our scene. Hotaru is ahead on initiative, so I'll post below, and you can have your first combat turn.
The woman masquerading as airport security personnel was so confident and focussed on obtaining her objective that while she was wary of Hotaru and the officers, she hadn't anticipated that Hotaru would raise the alarm. The security officers were equally caught flat-footed at the young man who stood before them loudly broadcasting a warning. They were equally confused both by Hotaru and the woman, since neither were what they seemed to be!
