OOC:
I should've laid out the explanation for extended tests. Each subsequent test made progressively applies a -1 to the dice pool. So you get to make 5 rolls, from 5dt all the way down to 1d6. I'll use the first 5 rolls you've made, progressively count fewer and fewer dice in the order in which you rolled them, that ok? If I do that, that's 5 successes, plus the 2 from your original attempt, giving 7 successes, you're 1 short.
Clint fiddled around the maglock with the only tools he could find, managing to pry part of the lock casing open, but he still couldn't release the lock.
OOC:
It's probably pew pew time to break the lock, try not to ricochet stray bullets in the cabin. ;)

OOC:
lol, that's been in my mind from the start lol !!
Quick question first... This box, is small enough for one or two person to move it or is it too big ?
Feb 1, 2020 12:00 pm
OOC:
Excellent thinking! I'll grant you 1 Edge for creative RPing if you're planning to do what I think you're planning to do. ;)

The three boxes are about the size of a trunk or a crate each. Two people should be able to move it, or make a Lift/Carry roll, hits add to the Strength multiplier to carry.

OOC:
Sorry, was on the "sickbed" for the last 48 hours...
Clint takes a look around to locate an emergency exit door, Siouxie, can you help me move that in front of the door. Mrs, Negumi, please advise the pilot we will open the door a few moments... Once the box is in place, Clint looks around for a harness or something to secure himself and an oxygen mask... Get out of the room, I'll open the emergency exit and throw the box out, I'm sure we'll be out of range of its systems in a matter of seconds...

Take care @deadpool_qc, come back to this thread when you're feeling better
The other exit to the cargo bay was the loading door at the rear end of the plane. Opening it allowed for goods and items to be transported in and out of the plane, but it was a big hydraulic affair, to open it is to lower a small ramp and create an air pressure imbalance to pull everything out.

Siouxie understood what Clint was planning and together they moved the case to the edge of the door. Negumi said, "I can control the door from the central control inside once you're ready." Both of them followed Clint's orders and promptly exited the hold. As instructed, Negumi gave Clint some moments to secure himself. The plane was already beginning its final landing descent. Then the door opened ...
OOC:
Roll Athletics + Strength. You get 1 Edge for an inspired solution. Your threshold modifiers are -1 for securing yourself, +1 for the precariousness of the situation (I'm using the Climbing modifiers as a gauge). So your threshold is 3.

OOC:
here goes nothing ....
... Oh shit...gonna use that edge point to reroll a 1...
... 2 success, not enough but at least its not a glitch....
...just in case I have time for another try (extended test?) Here's an additionnal roll (with the -1 for the retry)
Last edited February 5, 2020 4:29 am

Rolls

Athletics (3) + strength (3) - (6d6)

(164111) = 14

Reroll a 1 - (1d6)

(6) = 6

Second try - (5d6)

(54243) = 18

OOC:
Fun fact about edge to avoid those glitches on p.45 you can apply the same boost multiple time on an action: (e.g., spending one Edge allows the player to reroll one die; they could spend two to reroll two dice)

I know, but the one Bedzone gave me was the only one I had left...

OOC:
Yeah you splurged it all earlier on a more important roll. Glad you didn't glitch, otherwise Clint flies out the plane! :D It's not an extended test though, you're trying to hold on to something while massive air pressure is trying to suck you out.
Clint had both grabbed tightly and braced himself against the handholds on the wall when the rear door open. Immediately the tremendous suction in the open bay door dragged the case out of the plane and into the air. That wasn't the only item it pulled out though. Other unsecured items, loose luggage, small objects whoosed out as well. Some of these buffeted Clint as they haphazardly flew past him, causing him to lose his grip! The street cowboy tumbled violently towards the open exit, smashing into things along the way. It appeared that he was about to join these as a casualty of the chaos ...
OOC:
Do Athletics + Agility this time, let's see if he's quick enough to re-grab hold of something on the way out.
Feb 5, 2020 2:44 pm
OOC:
I'm more confident in the results if agility is involved ;)
... 5 success...

Rolls

Athletics (3) + agility (7) - (10d6)

(2252646616) = 40

Grasping at anything his hands could find, Clint continued to slip precariously towards the open exit door. The flying boxes and cases slammed against him, making it hard for him to find a way to stop himself from falling out of the plane. The struts his last hope. His agile reflexes kicked in, enabling him to brace against his last tumble and shove him towards the metal bar. Gripping it with all his might, he hung on for dear life as the rest of the unsecured cargo fell out of the plane.

After what seemed like an eternity, the plane began to level. And moments after that, the bay door began to close. It finally sealed shut, flopping Clint unceremoniously onto the floor. The cabin entrance opened, and Negumi and Baron entered. "Still alive and here?" Baron surveyed the disarray and shrugged. "Can't say the same of my luggage."

Negumi was still his serious self. "The pilot has regained control of the plane. Without the jamming, Narita aviation control patched through, and for our safety and security we're been instructed to land so that they can investigate the hijacking." He did not seem pleased by this, but if there were reasons for his displeasure, he did not reveal it.

With that, the plane began its descent again, this time under their control.

Then you should give them our coordinates at the moment the cargo doors openned to help them find the box.
After making sure his own bag was still secured in the cargo, Clint goes back to his seat.

Clint had not only risked his own life in attempting to get rid of the re-broadcaster which allowed the plane to be hacked, everything else in the cargo hold was equally at risk. His heroic actions had the unintended consequence of losing much of what was being transported out the bay door. That anxious thought crossed his mind as he checked on his own luggage, the duffel bag containing his weapons, and the suitcase with his customised armour.
OOC:
There isn't an exact mechanic for a luck-type test, so I'm going to suggest we use your Edge. Give me two rolls, using a number of dice equal to your Edge rating, one for each of your luggage.

...now I'm scared...
WOW!! Luck IS on my side... for now...

At least these rolls were good!
As luck would've had it, Clint's possessions were intact, fortuitously wedged in a corner and stacked underneath other equipment. Of the three matching cases, one of which contained the tracker, two were gone, with one remaining. Everything else needed sorting out.

Clint went back to his seat, leaving Negumi to talk to Ozaka in private, and watched Baron check on Siouxie's condition. Takeshi and Lim were deadly serious and quiet, and even Sakita was muted. The plane landed without further fuss, and they were greeted by airport security as well as a tactical police squad. The chief investigator, a level-head dwarf, had requested very politely that he required some time with all of them for questioning, but promised to make the session as painless as possible as he led them to an airport transfer vehicle, and to a comfortable office to do so.

The entire situation seemed secure for now, although the big question remained unanswered: what was the entire point of the hijacking? It seemed that all it intended to do was to force the plane to land at Narita airport, the busiest airport in the world, which was where it was now at, rather than at the private Kansai airport on the outskirts.

Clint cooperates with the security forces since there is nothing to be gained by opposing them now...

The chief investigator, Basho, was very polite and professional, typical of the Japanese. He efficiently breezed through the details of the entire incident, while his assistant recorded everything Clint said faithfully, noting down all of Clint's observations of the plane and passengers, and even his suspicions.

"Mr Westwood, while I must praise you for your quick thinking in saving the plane from what might have been a catastrophe, I have one or two more questions for you which I will require an honest answer to. Could you explain why you are traveling under a fake SIN, and also why you are attempting to bring these weapons into Japan under this false identity?" The assistant displayed the inventory of Clint's luggage, which contained his armor and various guns.
Feb 10, 2020 6:31 pm
Of course inspector Basho. The answer is pretty simple actually, my parents lived off the lands in old farmlands far from the city and never bothered registering me to the local authorities. Being home-schooled, I was already pretty old before I learned about SINs. I admit I should apply for a legal SIN but I have been negligent on that part. As for the guns, I am often hired to teach about the cowboy life and skills, like outdoor survival, hunting and tracking, how to take care of animals. I can also teach how to handle most firearms, but I specialize with rifles. I have also been hired as a guide or to hunt dangerous, very dangerous animals. That's what the armor is for. If you want, I'd be happy to give a few shooting tips to your boys. As for now I've been hired by some studios...

Inspector Basho seemed to accept Clint's explanation as he listened intently. "While you're explanation is an acceptable one, please understand that visiting Japan with a false identity is illegal. We require you to register a real SIN with immigration authorities, which you can do so immediately after we are done here." Clint put two and two together. Had he arrived in a private jet in a private airport as per Takeshi's original arrangement, he would've avoided this problem. Unfortunately he now had to go through proper immigration procedures. Hopefully that would not complicate things later. "Secondly, unlike the CAS, Japan takes a dim view of openly carried firearms. While you may own them because they are registered to you, you are not permitted to use them in this country. We will log the IDs of each of your weapons, should we need to trace their usage. The armor you may wear freely, although you might want to consider its appropriateness at certain public places." Basho explained everything slowly and clearly, so that there was no misunderstanding. After all, Clint was a gaijin, or foreigner, and Japanese laws and culture had their idiosyncrasies.

"Anything else in your mind that you would like us to know which will aid in our investigation? Or do you have any questions of your own?" Basho was bringing the interview to a close.

Knowing respect goes a long way with japanese culture, Clint switches to japanese, even if just a basic one, [japanese] Shitsumon wa arimasen. Anata no bunka ni tsuite no watashi no chishiki no fusoku ni anata no nintai ni kansha shimasu. Watashi ga anata no hōritsu o sonchō shi, sonchō suru gaijindeatte mo, watashi wa saizen o tsukushimasu.

Clint bows to inspector Basho in what he thinks is a traditionnal bow, and then waits to be shown where to go next.
