"I suppose I can ask them about those globes tomorrow. Night Miss Welles."

Vivian turns in for some shut eye as well.

Eskaton says:
Doc Murph approaches the southern wall in the late daylight, taking in the coils at the top of the walls. Yes... this is the place for me. He thinks as he approaches the wall and hears the guard shout out a hail. "Ho there, my good man! I'm Doctor Murphy, come all the way from Indianapolis to help wade across the Mississipi and reclaim the lands all the way to the ocean's edge. I've brought a couple of tricks up my sleeve that might help the effort!" He pats the boxes that are lashed to his saddle proudly. "Tell me, this is Fort Ohm, right? I'm hoping I've not turned myself around on the trail!"
The guard responds to your inquiry from atop the terreplein, "You've got the right place fella'. If you're here to volunteer with the Tesla Rangers that is!" He then turns and shouts below, "Raise the gate! We've got a Tesla Ranger volunteer coming in from Indiana." He turns back to you and says, "Come on in mister. Please see the guards on the other side of the gate. Welcome to Fort Ohm!" He waves you in.

You notice what appears to be a version of an ancient portcullis gate made of metal begin to raise. As it lifts you notice two guards flanking the gravel road that leads westward into the compound. The guards are dressed in what appears to be the standard military uniform for the National Army. An army that is now the remnants of the Civil War and initial robot onslaught. A taller guard approaches you and says, "Welcome to Fort Ohm. If you'll be so kind, we need to temporarily confiscate any firearms or explosive weapons you might have on you. At least until we get you registered tomorrow morning with the Tesla group." He eyes your horse and the boxes attached. Another gentleman approaches and says, "I'll take your horse to the stables, sir. Our stables are mighty fine and we promise that both your horse and confiscated firearms will be taken care of." He offers to take the reigns of your horse. The taller guard says, "Follow me to the barracks."
OOC:
If Doc complies with the guard's request then proceed on. Otherwise, leave a new reply with a new direction.
After you abide by the guard's requests you are lead down the gravel pathway into the center of the compound. Along the way you might notice various soldiers going to-and-fro, performing their various duties. Some of these soldiers are lighting torches as the sun is beginning to set and you notice curious electric lamp posts just beginning to flicker on along each road. You see several buildings of various sizes, mostly wooden, along the roads and various paths branching around in the interior of the compound. Eventually, he leads you to a long wooden building. More narrow than wide. He says, "Here we are mister. This is the Ranger Barracks and will house you for the duration of your stay. There should be an open cot with an empty locker at the foot of the bed."

He opens the door for you and says, "Take whichever one suits your fancy. If you need anything, just find someone in uniform. I think the mess hall is about to close, but if you're hungry, it's' that way." He points to a large building about 75 feet to the east of the barracks. He continues, "But try to get some rest. You've had a long day I'm sure and tomorrow will start bright and early." He leaves you at the door to the barracks and walks off in the direction that he came from. Upon looking in you do see a handful of cots already claimed. Some simply messed indicating they're claimed and a few sleeping bodies.
OOC:
If Doc goes to the mess hall and then winds down for the evening proceed on with playing that out however you'd like. Some of the other players have given us some tidbits to feed off of with their interactions as well, depending upon arriving at night or day.
I am going with all of you showing up on the same "day," albeit different times. If not, post a reply and provide a new direction and we will roll with it.

"Please, do be careful with those crates. The contents are... very valuable." He says as they lead his horse away. "And just so you know, Tesla's galvanic power can be used for so much more than explosions. The crude displays of his technology's power may be awesome, but the true brilliance in the science he's unlocked is its versatility and nuance. I'd love to give you a demonstration sometime when we've got a spare minute." He says, as he follows along to the Ranger Barracks, which he ducks inside and claims an empty cot, placing his belongings carefully into a footlocker.

"I'm quite curious to have a taste of your frontier cooking. You know, the trappings of the frontier are all the rage in Indy. I'd be curious to see how it stacks up to the real thing." He ventures to the mess hall and tries some of the grub before slipping into the bath house to wash the dirt of the road off of himself. After this is said and done, he moseys back to the barracks to get some sleep, catching the Tesla coils as the come to life, stopping in the middle of the pathway to admire their lightning domes. "Magnificent." He says to nobody in particular, "Simply magnificent."

As nightfall begins to settle and most sane men prepare their bed for slumber, a weary eyed Roland Stubbs rides in from the south. Straight ahead he can see the fort barely lit by flickering torchlight however, gazing up, his weary eyes widen to take in the magnificence on display at each corner of the fort. Large metallic spheres adorn each visible corner with what seems to be dancing lightning flickering in and out of existence with each passing moment. This, to Roland, was truly magical. Growing up with such a sheltered small town perspective, it was easier for Roland to believe he'd never understand it's inner working than to even try. Still, it was enough to justify a moments pause.

As Roland dismounts, a voice can be heard calling from above. "Halt stranger! State your business." Roland looks up, interrupted from his marvelling gaze. " Pardon me sir, heard you fellas might be lookin' for some muscle and well..." he glances back the way he came. "Me, I'm just looking for a ticket out west."

" Pardon me sir, heard you fellas might be lookin' for some muscle and well..." he glances back the way he came. "Me, I'm just looking for a ticket out west."
The guard follows up with,"That's right. You sure do travel late mister, we're looking for almost anyone willing. And, a ticket west is almost guaranteed." He turns, "Open up, we've got another one." Turning back to you from atop the terreplein he says, "See the guards past the gate. Welcome to Fort Ohm."

The southern gate is quite large, you might notice it is some sort of lumber, banded and reinforced with iron. It gives a long creak as it opens revealing the interior of the compound. Two guards approach you as you enter through the gate. One shorter gentleman, wearing what you might recognize as the normal military uniform of the country, approaches you and says, "Welcome to Fort Ohm. We will need to confiscate any firearms you have on you until we get you registered and such in the morning. We will also take you horse to the stables. All will be taken care of, rest assured." The other guard, a taller skinnier man approaches and offers to take the reigns of your horse and lead it to the stables. The shorter guard continues, "Follow me.
I'll take you to the barracks and get you settled with a cot for the night. You'll want to get some sleep, being so late in the night already. No worries though, all of your basic needs will be taken care of here in the fort."
OOC:
If Roland decides to comply with the guards then we can move along, if not, provide a reply and some new direction.
As you and the guard are walking northward along the gravel path you might notice the general layout of the compound. Various buildings line the branching pathways to-and-fro inside the large ramparts (perimeter wall). The guard gives you an overall explanation of the key buildings; the hospital, the mess hall, headquarters and so on. Eventually you arrive at a long wooden building and he says, "Here we are sir. This is the barracks for the Tesla Ranger recruits. Just find yourself an open cot. They have a locker at the foot of the bed for anything you might need to store there. Get some rest. Goodnight." He yawns a bit and starts to walk back in the direction of the southern gate.
OOC:
If Roland decides to enter on into the barracks read on, if not give a new reply and direction.
Upon entering the barracks you notice several people already asleep for the night. The cots are small, single, simple beds. One row on each side of the building all the way down. They're spaced evenly providing enough room for a person and their essential belongings. there is a locker at the foot of each bed.
OOC:
If Roland decides to go ahead and rest, you may claim any open cot. Feel free to play this out however you would like. If you want to do something beyond that, give a new direction and reply.

A less exhausted Roland might have questioned this foreign authority taking away his weapons however this Roland was very tired indeed. I suppose my fists can serve as weapons if need be. Reluctantly he hands over his weaponry and heads towards the barracks. His mind driven toward one thing. Sleep. Finally arriving he thanks the guards and finds an open cot to claim. With his last bit of energy he unpacks his belongings into the locker at the foot of the bed and stares dreamily at the cot. Any perceptive eye might notice a slight movement from the belongings he's been packing, if only for a moment. Roland finishes up and falls ungracefully to his cot. The resulting crash of his hulking form causing a noticeable shudder in the room. With that, only the sounds of his snoozing grumbles can be heard from his bed.

Travelers, strangers, wanderers...volunteers. You each arrived with your own purpose, own stories, your own experiences, and skillsets. Ready and willing to devote yourself to a great cause. Some of you have briefly met, others arrived during their own time frame and have settled in for the night. Rest easy travelers.
OOC:
And with that...I shall end this night. Look for the new thread to proceed on with the following morning. :) P.S. Please feel free to leave any comments/suggestions in the General chat area, especially with regards to posting frequencies, or anything really. I want this to be fun for you.
