Episode 1 Scene 1b : The Arrival

Jan 8, 2020 8:22 am
OOC:
This is for Kroog and Kendra the Morningchild
You awaken to find that the caravan has stopped once more, which means your shift would be beginning soon. However after getting your stuff together and getting out of the sleeping wagon you were in, you find that the caravan has actually arrived at its destination. You see another of the group you agreed to hang with upon arrival but not the other four.

Oi! Get up Kroog! They left without us!
Kendra flips with relative ease out of the wagon, makes a complicated turn on a handstand, that mostly looks like a fFolk with arms and legs everywhere. She lands with a less stiff joints than before. She grabs her backpack, ready to headout once Kroog is on his feet
Jan 8, 2020 4:21 pm
Kroog awakens, cracks his knuckles, gathers his things, slips his backpack over his shoulder and grabs his battle-ax and shield. After taking a long drink from his waterskin he comes out of the wagon and takes in his surroundings. He addresses Kendra, "So we've arrived? Better catch up with the others. Lead on."

Kendra adjusts her backpack and the hip pouch that contains several vials. Finally, a rapier finds its place on the other hip and she walks off towards the keep, plucking on her lute.
When they meet folks she ask for a party with a tiefling and a dwarf

The caravan master seemed like perhaps the most likely individual to answer her question and it did not take Kendra long to locate him and pose her question. He informs here that the Paladins took them into the village most like to the Garrison but he was not sure why or what they had done. His comments seem to imply they had gotten in trouble or at least he felt they did.

Getting directions to the Garrison was even easier for the guards at the main gate told her how to get there. Basically follow the main road through the village and take a right first chance you get until you get to the bridge.

Upon arriving at the bridge they are greeted by more guards who stop them and say, "Halt, state your business"

Top of the morning good sirs. We are part of Brindel Truhands party... the dwarven paladin, Egret the tiefling druid and the two humans of the arcane persuasion. Kendra is smiling at the guards. Have they gone past here?

Persuasion (or similar Cha roll) - (1d20+6)

(20) + 6 = 26

OOC:
Okay I did not see what you were trying to persuade them to do but I will take the roll as it stands
The guards nearly automatically reciprocate Kendra's smile with smiles of their own as almost memorized and seem to be nearly oblivious to Kroog's presence. However, they look a bit confused at Kendra's descriptive question. Then one of them them managed to respond saying, "Uh.. well a dwarf, human, dragonborn, and some ghad-awfully-dressed tiefling passed through here a bit ago with Shahadur and Katsmon but that is the closest to what you are describing."

Kroog stands silent and about five feet behind Kendra. He is towering at 6'7" he has approached the guards following closely behind Kendra concealing his upper body somewhat behind his leather-lined cloak. He studies both the guards and his immediate surroundings. After the guard responds to Kendra, Kroog says, "I'm with her."

La! That sounds right. Do you know where we best find them? With Kroogs eloquent introduction, Kendra remembers her self. Yes, this is Kroog, he saved me from a group of mimes. There were doing unspeakable things to me. She pads his strong arm
OOC:

1) the image of Kroog is locked/not public. I suggest using imgur to upload pictures you want available here
2) the mimes story is a joke

A bit taken off guard by the comment, Kroog quickly eyes Kendra, but plays along and says, "Yes, they were many in number, but they fell to my ax without objection."
OOC:
Thanks for the advice. I just noticed the photo wasn't properly shared via my googledrive. I"ll check out imgur today.

OOC:
I set up an imgur account and the photo should show now! It's just a larger version of my avatar for the character. Thanks!

The guards take in Kroog as if for the first time but seem perhaps unimpressed or just so enamored of Kendra that they do not care. The guard that spoke replies to Kendra, "Uh yeah probably," he thumbs in the direction behind him, "in the main office."
Jan 9, 2020 7:35 pm
Much obliged! Kendra walks of towards the main office
Jan 9, 2020 7:48 pm
Kroog follows behind Kendra keeping watch on the flanks and even checks behind to see if they are being followed by the guards. The more urbanized and organized environments put Kroog on a slight edge.

While walking toward the Main Office he asks Kendra, "Why do you think they're in the main office?"

Perception Check (being followed) - (1d20+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Kendra begins to walk forward but the guards do not move out of her way so does not get very far, "Uh sorry but you cannot go in carrying weapons you will have to leave them here and submit to a check to make sure you do not have any hidden weapons. Again sorry but its the rules."
OOC:
The stuff that took place after the assumption that the guards would just let you pass is fine and can take place once you are actually able to pass -- please be careful about making assumptions as well as doing things that would require someone else to move their character thanks
Jan 9, 2020 9:22 pm
Oh, sorry, here you go. Kendra hands over her rapier and hand crossbow. When they search her and find several daggers, she apologizes and tells that those are for juggling. There are no other weapons
Jan 9, 2020 9:37 pm
OOC:
Okay so as not to draw this out too much I am going to assume you both capitulate with what the guards want and are not trying to conceal any weapons or anything that might be considered as a weapon. Otherwise I can make a search roll
The guards do a thorough and fairly practiced methodical search of both Kendra and Kroog removing all weapons that they find. Then one of guards holds out a small round glass-like sphere, "Please place your hand out palm up."

When placed in Kroog's hand it seems to do nothing however when placed in Kendra's hand glows a soft blue. "Okay you have to wear this." A guard produces a wrist bracelet of dark metal covered by inscribed runes. As he snaps it securely into place on Kendra's right wrist, Kendra suddenly feels like a part of her just disappeared. There was a profound emptiness feeling that she had never felt before, a sort of horrible loss as if... as if... she was utterly alone. Note in the outer world but within her inner being, she felt for the first time in her life complete loneliness.

"Okay you two follow me." one of the guards says and then turns and begins walking to the main gatehouse.

OOC:
I'm sure Kroog would be hesitant, but given the situation, he will abide. Happy to move along.

Ever the optimist, Kendra dives into the experience. Is this how normal folks see the world? How dull! She follows the guard in silent contemplation for a while.

Hello darkness my old friend, time to talk to you again... Kendra starts to compose a somewhat somber song.
Jan 10, 2020 4:40 pm
The view and empty feeling Kendra is experiencing is anything but pleasant. The abject loneliness seems to almost gnaw away at her inner resolve and her normal view of beauty that she had come accustomed to had been replaced by an extremely drab dullness. She can easily imagine someone wanting to end their existence if this was what they had to experience every day. No beauty, no joy, just a gnawing loneliness in world of dreariness.

Kroog on the other hand simply follows along seemingly without an apparent care in the world, although he too has issues as without his weapons and in the current situation is probably feeling a bit naked.

Bringing up the rear are another pair of guards meaning that Kroog's unprotected back is individuals he does not know. Causing it an uncomfortable imaginary itch that cannot be scratch to form in the middle of his back.

While the walk to the inner Keep is short to the both of them it seems extremely prolonged. Stepping into the Keep brings on an even greater senses of foreboding and a sense of claustrophobia and the weight of it is just so horribly depressing. The arduous climb up those endless stairs.

The front guard stops and knocks on the door which is eventually opened from the inside. The guard waves the two in. After they enter the human holding the door closes it and they find themselves in a room with their comrades, a dwarf sitting at a desk, and elf standing beside him, a dragonborn off to their left and human by the door.

This will pick up in the other thread when I denote your entrance -- however feel free to make another post if you want in response to that seemingly long mile walk
