Character Generation: Beware Wall of Text

I like that idea, and will choose skills with that in mind. I've updated my character entry, above, with the gambler information from the Investigators Companion, volume 2, and given him a name: Santos Malzarian. The Gambler entry mentions something about +2 to POW for purposes of calculating LUCK, which is opaque to me. Is there a separate pool of LUCK points distinct from the LUCK stat?

What's next?

Still waiting on the others to try to come up with their characters.

There isn't a separate luck pool. My guess would be adding the +2 to whatever you would roll for luck when the time comes.

Hi everyone. Thank you for the invite. First time playing by post, so looking forward to the experience.

Here are my stats. I missed the bit about rolling them in the forum. I can re-roll them if need be but there are some interestingly low ones. My character's appearance is bordering on 'ugly' as per the Keeper's handbook so I'm thinking of the Drifter occupation.

I also thought I'd help answer a question I saw.

Note that the fifth value for a starting character is actually what you initially roll on the dice.

For age, you mention improvement rolls. Are these d100 checks against the characteristic? If so, what happens with a success (exceeding the characteristic value)?
I'll take a look at the Keeper's Guide and see for sure but I believe it can go up by 10 or so.
According to the 7e rules, just like the end of session improvement rolls, if you exceed your characteristic on a d100 then you'd increase the skill by a d10.

Thanks; I've updated my earlier post to include the EDU improvement roll for age and noted the resultant increase to EDU.

Awesome good job guys. I'm going to look into seeing how the character sheet stuff is coming along and if not we shall have to make due with the custom sheets on here so we don't have to constantly refer back to this forum for stats. I'll keep you posted on that front.

You're fine with the rolling of stats outside of that. I went ahead and made characters sheets in the custom thing just for my benefit really. Just waiting on two others to complete their professions for me then we're good to start.
Feb 9, 2016 2:06 am
So for my profession I have decided to go with athlete, but he is an avid gambler.
Feb 9, 2016 2:43 am
Now I need my occupation skills
Feb 20, 2016 5:24 pm
Hey guys, don't know if you saw but they added the character sheet to the site. If you'd like go ahead and add your stats to a sheet and we'll get started.
Feb 20, 2016 5:48 pm
At the moment, I'm unable to do this. I suspect it's a bug and have reported it. Are you able to make a CoC 7e PC? How about NPCs?
Feb 20, 2016 7:50 pm
Hmm. Seems to be having an issue with me as well. Drat.
Feb 22, 2016 8:58 am
Keleth has addressed the bug I was experiencing, so I was able to enter my character using the character sheet for "Call of Cthulhu (Chaosium 7e)." But the game is set as "Custom," rather than "Call of Cthulhu (Chaosium 7e)," so I can't submit my character to the game!

If you can't edit the game to change it from "Custom" to "Call of Cthulhu" - I have no idea if this is possible, I've never tried editing any of my games' systems - let me know. I'll re-enter my character as "Custom" and submit it.
Feb 22, 2016 8:11 pm
Yeah, the 7e sheet doesn't seem to let me add skills or save it... hopefully it'll get fixed soon.
Feb 22, 2016 8:14 pm
I'll check it out and redo it. After that I'll make the first post. I think we've probably waited long enough.
Feb 23, 2016 12:19 am
So I was able to add the character sheet as part of the game. So if all works properly we have CoC 7e, and custom sheets available for use in case you guys don't want to remake the sheet. Since you guys are pretty much set besides the sheet stuff I'm going to go ahead and post the intro so we can get started. :P If you guys have any complaints or anything with how I run the game let me know. I'm a first timer when it comes to running a play by post game so any concerns or comments is much appreciated.

Is that the formula for every character for occupation points, and for personal interest points?
I'm assuming that occupation skill points are spent 1 to 1 for raising values of only the skills listed under the PC's occupation, and that there's a separate pool of points to spend on any skills called "personal interest." Is that correct?

The Gambler's occupation skills are: Accounting, Bargain, Conceal, Fast Talk, Listen, Persuade, Psychology, Spot Hidden.

Edit: that means that Santos has 190 points for occupations, and 100 points for personal interests.

Sorry to ask another dopey question: what are the default values of the skills, or how are they determined?

I goofed and entered my skills onto my sheet, assuming that they started from 0%. But now that I've submitted the changes, I see that every skill has a base value, and presumably my points spent should have added to the existing base value. Ugh.

If you make a blank character, then you can see the default values.

This character sheet also has them http://www.chaosium.com/call-of-cthulhu-7e-1920s-full-autocalc-sheet-v-2/
