You could name specific examples for organizations from DnD lore that would "employ" Paladins of Obligation, like the clerics get examples of deities of their domain~

Oh yeah, definitely the Orzhov Syndicate from Ravnica would be good to mention. Any suggestions of other organizations?

To be honest I don't have that much experience playing DnD myself (Not as popular in Germany so I just recently got into it) and therefore don't know about many organizations yet.
But I guess some of these could fit.
I think I'll personally go for the single person rather than evil organization that "employs" the paladin. I thought her up as a gambler, who got into too much debt with a loan shark and now pays her debt in service rather than coin.
Also, would the brand the paladin is marked with count as a holy symbol and therefore spellcasting focus? Because that could be very interesting!

The Church of Bane definitely is capable of stuff like this. And I wouldn't put anything past the Zhentarim. I'm not as familiar with the other two, but I'll read up on them. Good finds!
Another idea is that some loan shark or thieves' guild has gotten their hands on an artifact that can bind people like this. Like an oath rod from the Wheel of Time novels. You can go with whatever you like!
And I love the idea of using your brand as a holy symbol. Absolutely nails the flavor!
And I think Germany is awesome! I almost went there for a masters degree in musicology. I would have needed more than just a couple semesters of German under my belt though!
