House Revelos is a name that has mixed reception. Some disenters believe that they are deceivers, hypocrites, or even worshippers of the Evil One. Those who praise the Revelos Family recognise them for their valour, devotion to the Holy End, and the protection of the city walls.

Very interesting so far. Lots of hooks to grab onto as well.

Maa-Talia is ancient, so my 10 probably matches up with your 7. So my event 8 disease would be just before your event 6 disease. Maybe Maa-Talia tried to establish a trading post at the Breach, but brought the plague. They've never been invited back!
Feb 13, 2020 2:10 am
I'm sure house Revelos has some strong feelings towards Maa-Talia 😳
Feb 13, 2020 3:04 am
Also, I don't think events have to match up perfectly, so if you prefer the idea that Maa-Talia picked it up from Revelos, I can work with that. Could fit with the perception that Revelos are linked to the"Evil One." I'd probably go with a similar premise, they came to establish a trading post, got infected and have never returned!

Let me know what you think or if you had anything in mind in particular.

Both sounds pretty good. I'm now thinking that Maa-Talia start forming a trade route with Revelos. Then, a disease began to spread between the two. There will lots of hands pointing both sides as possible causes. Or even the disease could come from the mysterious lands in the North! But all in the all, the disease would have been only affecting the two houses without reaching further south.

I have a unique idea of the plague's nature, which will have lots of references.

This disease has the ability to turn the victims blue and cause organ failure. The survivors may still carry the pigment of dull blue skin, and are considered to be mildly cursed, as it is posible for the blue skin to be passed down to children. These people are called Argyrians, as they are treated as if they are of another ethnicity.

King Typhos' grandfather was the one who declares that Argyrians are to no longer be treated as outcasts. However, the non-Argyrians have the right to not allow their children to marry the Blue-Skins.

Very cool, I like it! Were you inspired by the condition known as Argyria? Exposure to excessive amounts of silver. I'd never heard of that before. I like your idea that the origin of the disease is a mystery to the houses (maybe it came from the north??) but both houses blame each other for the outbreak.

I've been thinking more about Maa-Talia and I think in their culture it will be prestigious for women to go out into the world to seduce men from other lands and come back pregnant. I'm imagining that their child-rearing culture will be very communal, so there is less risk associated with being a single parent compared to societies that raise children in pairs.

This opens the possiblity to very initimate relations when the trading route was first established that helped the disease spread much worse.

Once the outbreak was apparent, Maa-Talia temporarily stopped ALL trade until the outbreak was over, which prevented the spread south. However, they never re-openned trade with Revelos because they feared Revelos was the cause of the disease.

I think in Maa-Talia, Argyrians were initially shunned for fear the blue skin meant they were still contagious. But once the blue skin started to pass down to the next generation and it was obviously not contagious anymore, it actually became a sign of prestige because it indicated their relatives ventured out into the world and were survivors, valued traits with Maa-Talia. This is a bit of a misconception because the disease spread at home too, but that's the nature of myths/legends. However, blue skinned outsiders (non Maa-Talia Argyrians) are treated with suspicion for fear they are bringing the disease again.

What do you think? Does that work with your ideas about the disease and it's impact?
Feb 13, 2020 8:54 pm
That's an interesting dichotomy between blue-skinned locals and blue-skinned outsiders. How is it enforced/spotted? Is there some other symbol of them being a 'safe' Argyrian as opposed to an unsafe one?

I answered in my house thread so I don't hijack RoAries's thread with too much info about my house.
Feb 14, 2020 2:33 am
@Chalrytharendir, I think that is a good idea of the disease's impact.

For Revelos, the infected survivors group themselves into their own communities within their class. For example, there will be a split of nobles, Knights/Paladins, common soldiers, merchants, and peasants of which the family line has the blue skin defect or not.

And so, the infected nobles first started the trend of forming a minor house reserved for Argyrians, along with altering their family name to form a sort of special distinction for themselves. This trend of distinguishing themselves from each other began to pass down to the lower classes eventually. And so, a unique social structure is formed, whereby two groups that exists in each social-economic level has their own group that they trust more. This will be a tribalistic "us vs them" mentality. On one hand, it will a motivating factor for each group to be competitive, but on the other hand, there will be cases of violent conflict if issues are not settled.

It will be hard to determine if the disease will become fatal again, so there will still be some fear about the Argyrians. Also, those who are not under Revelos' mini-kingdom but are also affected will be identified as a sort of foreign brother by the local Argyrians. The foreigner will then likely be encouraged to become a citizen of the city.

Here is a map link. I aim to place my 26 cell territory over the branch of the river. Let me know how it looks. Over the image.

Organisations:

The Temple:
The Arch Priest is the leader of the faith, giving directions to the other priests and is the spokesperson for the Temple.
The High Priests are the ones who determine who amongst their ranks get to be the next Arch Priest. They also decide the Priest that gets to become a High Priest.
The Priests mainly handle the ceremonies and rituals of the Temples they are assigned to.

The Paladin Order:
The Paladin Captain is the leader of the Holy Order of Knights, also known as the Paladinhood. The Captain can only be appointed by the Arch Priest and the King.
The Paladin Sergeants are the leaders of their Paladin troops. They are promoted by their Captain.
The Paladins are talented soldiers who also carry the Revelationist Faith within them. It is believed that each of them has some measure of divine power from the Great One, even if it is seemingly little.

Religion:

The Temple of Revelation:
There are some ideas that are common within the Revelationists.
1) There is a deity known as The Great One. It is the primal force of good in the world. Whether or not The Great One is also The Creator is of great discourse amongst the Priests.
2) There is a being known as The Evil One. It is the polar opposite of the Great One, in that It is responsible for all the evil that happens in the world. Further understanding of It is highly discouraged.
3) The Holy End is the Revelationist's idea of the apocalypse. It is a time when all the evil people and creatures get killed off, leaving only the good survivors. There is little indication of when this event may happen, but the Priests would often say that it's "definitely not soon".
4) The use of Miraculous Powers are a real thing for these followers. However, the extent of the power is decent at best. A Paladin Captain may atmost have the talent to smite their enemies with a holy fire engulfed sword, or an Arch Priest may grant speedy recovery to their targets.

OOC:
Do let me know if my ideas are within the bounds of acceptability. I'm trying to say that there would be roughly the equivalent of Dnd Paladins and Cleric classes in my nation. I'm trying to judge the right level of power for these classes for the low/mid level magic world.
Feb 14, 2020 7:08 pm
I can see some connection here. A religion with primal forces would resonate with my barbarians. The same way you’re thinking cleric/paladin i’m Thinking Druid/barbarian so their could be some exchange, particularly if you were looking into other types of rituals. Nature has no concept of good and evil so evil outsiders would be natural for my house and we could have helped you in that scandal, for example ;)

Ooh... So you're saying you could be involved in the "communicating with demons" scandal? Alright I'll spoil my big twist...
