Thanks, I was just looking at the OSRIC rules and figured I ought to start rolling something up. Good thing I looked here first. First 6 rolls for abilities are below. If I remember correctly it's 4d6 drop the lowest.

That comes out as 12, 9, 14, 13, 13, 6 Not real good but I'll try to make something of it.

Rolls

Ability scores (subtract lowest number from total - (4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6)

4d6 : (4344) = 15

4d6 : (1431) = 9

4d6 : (1554) = 15

4d6 : (2615) = 14

4d6 : (6243) = 15

4d6 : (2122) = 7

So, with the highest score being 14 and deciding to play a Human character, I can't do a Druid, a Paladin or a Ranger. Nor can I play those characters as an Elf or Dwarf. I'm rather bored with Clerics right now playing several already in current games and I'm leery of playing a magic-user at first level. That pretty much leaves Fighter. So that begs the question are you planning on using the fighter rules of weapon specialization? I'll let you know if any more questions come up.

This is for money for gear and HP rolls (unless we're taking mx hp at 1st level)

Rolls

gold for gear x10,hit points - (3d6+2, 1d10)

3d6+2 : (513) + 2 = 11

1d10 : (4) = 4

Mar 11, 2020 1:05 am
Ehr, yes, max hit points at first level, just to provide some cushion. I will be using fighter specialization rules. Also, recall that in OSRIC death occurs at -10 hit points, not 0. Because of the nature of PbP, I will not be enforcing the rule that characters who return from negative hit points must rest at least one week before resuming activity (OSRIC, p. 130). Instead, they must rest for 1d6 rounds. Scarring (from being reduced to -6 hit points or below) still applies.

Greetings,
Thank's for letting me see if I want to join the game. Here goes nothing.
So that is 17, 10, 7, 12, 12, 14, A male Halfling Thief using the Osric 2.2 rules it is. With the name of Griffo Goodelock!

Looks like Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser to me. It's been a long, long time since I read any Fritz Leiber. He was my father's favorite author. Dad died in 1979 at an age two years younger than I am now. Now all we need is a Cleric and a Magic User. But please don't let Griffo go off on any of his extended voyages of discovery. lol

'Ill met in (Insert game setting's main city)' it is then!
DM, does my PC's Halfling sized Leather Armor only cost and weigh half as much as normal sized Leather Armor?

Greetings - Here goes for the rolls.

This is the first time I have attempted to generate a character by PbP. I deleted my last post because I forgot to add in the subtract the lowest number. Hope this is OK.

Greetings

I have decided to choose a paladin.

Name: Venemar

Str 16
Int 13
Wis 16
Con 10
Dex 8
Cha 18

On page 31 of OSRIC rules fighters get 50 - 200 gp starting money (3d6+2)

Here goes for the roll

Rolls

Starting money - (3d6+2)

(262) + 2 = 12

Mar 11, 2020 2:10 pm
I had a character ready, but I'll roll anyway.

Roll1 - 12
Roll2 - 12
Roll3 - 14
Roll4 - 12
Roll5 - 13
Roll6 - 15

I could just do the same Ftr/Clr with better stats, or I could play (among the more difficult to qualify classes): an assassin (not if there is a paladin in the group, of course) or a druid.

Are multi-class demi-humans allowed as per PHB?
[ +- ] Cynara (a half-el Clr/Ftr I rolled up for another 1st ed campaign)

I had an idea for a character, but my rolls don't really support it, so I'm going to have to think of something else. I may just fill in what we need after everyone else has something solid.

Update: I think I'm going to go MONK.

Edit: swapping to elf, rerolling age

matmaisan: Book says you can have a paladin and assassin in the same group if the GM approves, might as well ask! (I was pondering going cleric/assassin myself but that's a lot of trouble.)

Yes, I will wait for WhtKnt to chime in on both issues:

- what multiclassing is allowed for demi-humans
- whether assassins are allowed in general and, if so, whetherthe same party can contain a paladin and an assassin
Mar 11, 2020 5:43 pm
Well, this crew does move fast. A lot has happened in the last 13 hours. When I started my character there were only 4 slots. We are now 6. So far we have a Fighter (me), a Thief, a Paladin and a Monk. I had wanted to play a Druid but didn't have the numbers. Mat, it might best for the party if you took the Druid. Haven't seen anything from dankel yet. We don't have a magic-user. With 5 protectors that would be a very good option for someone.
Mar 11, 2020 6:28 pm
Okay, attempting to sort out the answers:

Multiclassing for demi-humans is, of course, permitted per the OSRIC 2.2 rules.

Can a single party contain both a paladin and an assassin? Wow! I never thought that I would find myself answering that question. Hmm. Ordinarily, I would say no, as the two are diametrically opposed. However... the idea intrigues me. I'm going to dictate that the paladin's deity has ruled that the paladin MUST adventure with this group. He doesn't have to like it, and he doesn't have to approve of the group's methods, but he is stuck as their moral compass. He is expected to lead by example in the hopes of turning them to the path of righteousness.

Also, I am going to allow thieves the use of the short bow because I'm nice that way. However, backstabbing is still melee only!

So what world is it? Well, if we're playing 1st edition, why not go ahead and say that we are in Greyhawk, as most of the adventures we're playing were written for that world anyway? The year is 576 CY. The wars have not yet occurred (and may not occur). If you need more info on Greyhawk and your Google-fu is weak, some links are below:

I have submitted Kaeleirai, elven monk. I really like what I've got, but IF we end up lacking something important, I might be able to be convinced to modify things.

Where in the World of Greyhawk Are We?

The campaign begins in Keoland, in the little village of Saltmarsh. You have been drawn to Saltmarsh by the rumor that the town council there is looking for hardy souls to investigate a haunting...
