Up for running Deadlands?

Hey all, I've been curious if anyone is up for running a game of Deadlands, or Deadlands: Reloaded. I've been stuck as a GM for so long, I'm really hoping to actually get to be a player for once. I do have tons of experience with the system (again, entirely as a GM though), and might be able to get a player or two to join in as well (no promises on that though). Seeing as how most people are rather trapped indoors at the moment, I figure it's a good time to poke around and see if anyone out there could be interested in starting up a game.

Okay I am game -- if you get 2 or 3 more players I will run you a game of Deadlands or Deadlands: Reloaded and since you are an experienced GM with ?both? of these then your choice as to which one we use.

Great! I prefer Reloaded, especially for online games (less ways to fudge character creation, and the rules are a bit easier to manage in my opinion). I'll see about getting more players. In the meantime, if anyone else is interested in the game, feel free to say so here.

If anyone is unaware of Deadlands, it's a game set in the late 1800s America that features cowboys and all that fun spaghetti Western stuff, but with a healthy helping of eldritch horror on top.

Oh, I think I've got a PDF for that lying around. I'm brand new to PbP, and the only TTRPGs I've done are fantasy. Do you mind if I join in? I'd love to spread out from medieval fantasy a bit.

Whomever Butcherbird wishes to include its his game I will just be running it ;) I am just drawing the line at 4 players as that seems to the most that PbP handles nicely and preferable 4 equally committed players -- also I prefer a minimum posting rate of about 4 posts per week and at most 1 per day -- as any less and the games seem to grind to a proverbial halt to many more and others are not able to easily keep up

Also Butcherbird let me know when you are ready to start and whom you want an invite sent to

Yeah, I don't mind you joining, Skeptic. I'm still waiting on a response from potential players, but I did tell them it's "first come, first serve" so if they don't reply in time, that's on them.

I won't be brokenhearted if you boot me for players you had already planned on. Shoot me a message either way so I know to stop waiting in the dark for the phone to ring ;)

No phone calls ;) and he did say first come first serve -- which kind of implies you are in and as soon as I get the go ahead I will put together the basic game and get all the invites out and I will post here once I have that completed so just watch this thread ;)

Are you talking Deadlands with the Savage Worlds system or the original Deadlands?

Preferably the Savage Worlds system (Deadlands: Reloaded) over the original. The original is nice, but using playing cards for everything allows for a bit too much fudging when it comes to character creation and such in my experience.

Because Butcherbird stated Deadlands:Reloaded that is what I am preparing

Very cool. Going to use Deluxe or trying to do a convert to the few differences to SWADE (Adventure Edition)?
Apr 14, 2020 8:42 pm
Well, that I don't know completely. Depends on what the GM has available/knows/wants I suppose. I haven't actually used SWADE, so I'm not certain how to go about converting the game to fit that system.

Edit: but I'm a fast learner and would be down to figure it out if that's the direction we're going.

Well unless Deadlands:Reloaded is broken in some way I see no reason to create additional effort to converting it to another system. Unless Nawashi.Maestro can outline exactly what they mean by the "few differences"

I've never known it to have problems, personally, but maybe there are things I've just not come across while running it.

There might not be a lot of major differences. There is this Free Deluxe to Adventure Edition Conversion Document. However, I'm pretty sure it isn't game breaking or anything.

I don't think they've come out with an updated Deadlands for SWADE yet...I do remember seeing a teaser for a new one or something of the sort.

Either way. Good luck. Deadlands is a cool setting! :)

Not interested in joining, then? We still have room for players it seems.

There is a new Deadlands being kickstarted for SWADE. That being said, I might be interested in joining. What year will it be set in, as that will make a difference in certain character archetypes? (Especially the Blessed, as in the original rules they prayed for spells on spur of the moment, and after Stone and a Hard Place (?), they use power points like everyone else.)
Apr 16, 2020 12:22 am
Butcherbird? Your thoughts on this. My guess would be they did that later to make it maybe simpler and easier to adjudicate as well as bring it in line with all the other Archetypes -- but that is only a guess.

Well I've always set my game pre-1881 (Stone and a Hard Place), as that module is sorta meant to be the end of the line for Deadlands, if I recall correctly. From there, we move on to Weird Wars, I believe. As well as the Apocalyptic version of Deadlands, which I can't recall the name of. Regardless, I'm not sure what module, if any, the GM would want to use, but they all tend to be set before Stone and a Hard Place anyways, and that's the time period I have the most experience with.
