OOC:
Josephine approaching NPC Dominic Ruiz
Apr 15, 2020 5:19 pm
Now that is a proper start to a conversation, Josephine thinks to herself, still angered by the last sailor she approached. Although she still feels surprised by his behavior. He has clearly been watching her. Why does he now pretend he didn't even notice her.
"Have we met before?", she asks, trying the waters. "Your face looks familiar." That was a lie. Josephine is fairly sure she's seen the man before, walking on the deck of the ship, but never before the expedition. Still, his reaction might tell her something.

Dominic look start into Josephine's eyes for a moment, and then breaks contact before it is too late. He is not meant to do that to one of her status... "I have been working the ships for a long time now, maybe even yer husband before..." he quickly suggests "But I don't think we been properly introduced" he bows one more "Dominic Ruiz, just an old sea dog me lady"

"Josephine Cominero," she replies even though Ruiz certainly knows who she is. She doesn't react to his inappropriate eye contact, trying to keep him from acting stilted. "Most of the sailors seem strange to me. Scary even," she says, her voice soft and innocent. "I never expected there to be this much animosity towards me. When I spotted you, I was glad to see a friendly, or at least not hostile, face."

Dominic looks a bit uncomfortable when Josephine mentions the other sailors' animosity simultaneously trying to hide a smile. "An old sea dog like me have seen many things and a lady on board is nae bother." he looks around and considers his next words "If me lady would like, I could keep me hear listening fer what whispers go aboot the deck"

"That would be very helpful. I'm just worried for my safety" She smiles sweetly at him for a second, then adds: "Do you know anything about a man named CeeBee Uriah? I spoke to him before and he seemed to... not like me very much."

"Me pleasure to help ye, me lady" Dominic replies to reassure Josephine as he considers her question. They have been on the ship for a couple of days, so he did have a change to cross paths with all the other sailors, including Ceebee Uriah. Though there was no real flaw to the hardworking sailor he could think off, this was a good opportunity to gain the lady's trust... and a con lad like himself would not let such a change pass would he? "Me lady means Ceebee Uriah is being trouble? The man be a good sailor if ye ask me but... some sailors whisper that he be havein' a short fuse particularly when the talk is about me lady" After sharing his suspicions and rumours with Josephine, the old sailor adds "There's nae saying what it means, maybe he be just concerned about fog... The sea sometimes does things to men" he shrugs

Josephine listens to Ruiz' answer and nods in agreement. "I am sure he is a good sailor but I have a bad feeling about him. Maybe you can keep an eye on him for me. I would be very grateful for anything out of the ordinary you can tell me." She smiles her signature smile at him and reaches towards him, stopping short of touching him, though.

She thinks to end the conversation here but then another thought comes to her mind. "Is he well-liked among the crew?" If people have strong feelings about him, one way or the other, that could be useful.

Dominic, assuming Josephine is leaving, bows with a smile, accepting his "task" gladly. However, as he prepares to get back to work, she tries to probe the situation a little further. "If the sailor is well liked? I say he has his friends and his enemies like any of us me lady"

Josephine considers pushing the topic further but decides against it. There will be another time to discuss this more.
"Thank you," she says before leaving him to his work again.
