Player Chit Chat

This is for general chit-chat and such

Okay as a heads up the group just needs to be a party that plays nicely together (does not mean we cannot have internal tension just means in the end they know who they can trust and that is generally each other at least to some degree) and we will be working on why you are a group rather than just a bunch of individuals as I typically do not run -- a bunch of strangers meet in a saloon and decide to blindly trust one another and risk there lives together -- so I will be working with you all to help weave a reason for being together that allows you to function as a group.

So with that said play what you feel you will have the most fun with playing and the one that you can create the most concept in and around -- try to make your character full bodied -- giving them the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly if applicable.

Okay I have updated the creation parameters please pay attention to the new numbers as they are slightly different from the standard numbers -- further you start out as a Rookie unless you buy the appropriate Edge -- and have a solid background story to reflect that Edge

In the character creation thread, you mentioned the ranks (1-5), starting with Novice 1. Does this essentially mean we start at rank 0?

Sorry not my fault -- Rookie = Novice -- the book changes the references not me

Makes sense, thanks

Is being illiterate a given? Can it still be taken as a minor hinderance?
Apr 22, 2020 3:07 pm
Yes it can still be taken as a Minor Hindrance BUT this redefined Hindrance means that you cannot read or write due to some semi-permanent reason such as perhaps extremely dyslexic or some other similar issue but not because you simply just have not learned to do so

I have two characters ready to go. Amos is Blessed, a take on John Coffey from The Green Mile. Blondie is a gunslinger, a take on the Man with No Name from the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. I'll play which ever the group feels like would be the better fit.

I doubt anyone will tell you anything other than "Play who you feel like playing". Honestly, either of them would be a good fit, and would be enjoyable to tell stories with/about.

I agree with skeptical_stun. Play what pleases you.

And that's a third vote for "Do what make you happy" from me. Our group is most likely to be cohesive, and the game is most likely to go on for longer if we're all playing characters we enjoy playing and not lamenting getting stuck with one archetype or the other just for some false notion of party balance. If we all decided we wanted to be magical river boat gamblers, or illiterate healers the game would still run just fine.

I can concur with Butcherbird because that is exactly how I run my games -- they are player concentric not module formatted ;)

So definitely play what you think you would most enjoy -- if you cannot decide then I can nudge you one way or the other if you outline what you are liking about each one

As a heads up due to some of you backgrounds I am thinking that maybe a good reoccurring enemy might be the Black Circle what do you all think about that idea -- not written in stone and there are others that could be chosen from it just seemed like a likely candidate for a few of you ;)

Other than what was in the front of the Reloaded book, I don't know anything about this setting, and I've never heard of the Black Circle. I read up on the Blessed in the back, but it was referenced in multiple places not to read further to keep the mystery of the setting alive.

Basically a group of sorcerers, witches, and voodoo priests out to do no good in the world.
Apr 22, 2020 10:29 pm
I'm going to go with Amos, the Blessed. Focusing on healing and protection.

So we should figure out how our characters are connected to each other, right? My character worked for a Railroad out in Arkansas before getting out and traveling, so I'm pretty easy about ways to fit in other characters.

It will help greatly if everyone at some point either openly for privately via Note posted their back story so I can look these over -- normally I try to help mesh these story lines into the world more tightly as well as help mesh them with other players where it seems plausible

Note I have listed all the Hindrances and Edges that I am currently aware of that are "official" or my own. I will post the descriptions for those that are not found in either the Deadlands:Reloaded or the Savage World:Deluxe books first as well as any that are specifically requested ;)
