Character Creation

Ok, it sort of hard to write a Background getting my PC from Point A to Point B. Without knowing where Point B is. So please do let me know when that becomes established.

Pertaining to Innate Magic. It states the following: Spells are learnt separately, but the Innate Casting skill determines the success for casting all innate magic spells. Under the default rules only elvish player characters (or humans with elvish ancestry) have the option of starting play with one of these spells.

Does this mean a PC starts only knowing 1 Innate Magic Spell, is that correct? Even if you were going for a full blown Wizard type PC?

No. You would have started with a Magnitude 1 innate magic spell had you spent your Background Point to learn one at character creation (unless you want to change your mind and decide to get a Magnitude 1 innate spell instead of increasing 2 of your skills with your Background Point, I'd allow it). You can still later learn Innate Magic spells if you find a teacher and spend Improvement Points as described on p.36 and p.55 of the rulebook.

Ok, so my PC doesn't have any Innate Magic Spells for now. I think my PC's CS is done. Take a look at it and let me know if I need to fix anything.

A week in the world of AoS is 10 days, so 2 weeks of rations would be for 20 days. Other than that, everything looks fine.

Ok, the # of Trail Rations have been adjusted. I also added a picture of my PC to the top of his CS, though it is a bit big. Where do you want us to post our PC's Background, Appearance, and Personality? With their CS or somewhere else? So how soon do you think actual IC game play will begin? Thanks!

@ wulfnor: Hard to say, probably later in the week, maybe even next weekend... I still have another 4 players who still haven't submitted characters yet, 2 of which haven't roll them yet. Got to give them time to make their characters.

@ Dreamblade: Welcome. Keep in mind that when rolling attributes, you always re-roll your 1s, so your STR and SIZ will be a bit higher than they are now. Edit: Ah, never mind, I just noticed you re-rolled your 1s already, and I even had missed one...

Yep, saw your reminders to the others so I was on it. As for character type, I settled on a Shady Medic and took Sorcery Spell Treat Wounds. She will save that for after her regular skills fail her, so don't go yelling "Medic" just cause you get a paper cut. She apprenticed with sort of the fantasy version of a back alley street doctor. She's dealt with shady people and learned a few tricks along the way.

Rolls

Background point Sorcery increase - (2d4)

(32) = 5

The Oath description seem to allow both open ended and shorter oath. What is the common knowledge about the generals of the Ennemy's army? Are demon somewhat common or extremely rare?

Is elvish the native tongue of my character or Mannish? What about the "own" culture?

Can I trade skill points for background point as per the optional rule on page 10? (if you did answer that, then im sry i missed it :)

Rolls

6d6X10 BV - (6d6)

(515463) = 24

3 background point in Close combat - (6d4)

(424331) = 17

Seeing that even a lesser demon seems like a dangerous foe, they are probably not super common otherwise the elves and their allies might have fallen. Still, the Enemy consist of a trio of powerful demon lords, so surely they have demons in their service. I'm guessing the majority of their troop probably consist of beastlings, fellgrims and wildlings while demons are probably reserved for shock troops, assassins, or for special missions. That seems to be doing the most sense.

Your native tongue will be Mannish, and your own Culture will be the human/man one.

My previous post may not have been clear, but yes, I'll allow the possibility of trading skill points for Background points.

Ok, sounds good. Though you didn't address the follow part of my last post. Which of course is understandable.

@ TheVagrant: No, humans are not capped at 2 Fate Points. The only race with a Fate Point cap are the elves as they are tied to the fate of the land.

@ Wulfnor: Oh, sorry about that. Yes, you can write your background in your character sheet.
May 4, 2020 3:46 pm
@ Dreamblade: I'd like to see how you spent your points on your character. Also, do not forget that you have some bonuses on Language (own) and Culture (own) (which should be both "Mannish" for you), and that everyone gets a +20 on Language (elvish) as it is the default "common tongue" of the setting. Also note your ENC please.

@ bowlofspinach: I found a small error on your character sheet. I think you used your CHA to calculate your Innate Magic score. With a POW of 12, your score should instead be 36.
May 4, 2020 4:29 pm
Okay, I must have just missed the musical instrument. Thanks for that. And I fixed the mistakes you pointed out, kalajel!

I had an idea to avoid breaking immersion during scenarios where instead of having NPCs tell you "You'll be rewarded 50 BV for this mission", instead use silver pieces (so "You will be rewarded 50 silver pieces for this mission"). That doesn't necessarily mean that your character are carrying a number of silver pieces = to your BV as the rulebook says people can carry various valuable knick-knacks probably jewelry or small precious or semi-precious stones) in addition to coins for trade. So 1 BV is roughly equivalent to 1 SP, but this will be mostly use to avoid NPCs saying "BV"...
May 4, 2020 8:21 pm
That makes sense about the money = BV.

I will get on that requested info for you. It's in my notes on another machine I can't access for an hour or two though.

GM, my PC's Appearance, Personality and Background has been posted at the bottom of his Character Sheet. I will only have to add the name of the place the game starts at, when that becomes know.

I also modified my PC's Combat Skills. Deciding not to waste 5 points on 'Unarmed', thus putting 20 into 'Close'.
