OOC Discussion

I didn't see an OOC thread, so I made this.

I am going to use my defense success to give Dasclaw a bonus

Yeah, realized as I was carrying on the 'becoming a bit long' OOC conversation we needed this. Good intuitions!

I think I'm tracking now. Thanks Candi.

Just checking my dice pool math before I post:

As a Tier 0 character, I have a 4-die maximum pool. That maximum is reduced by 1 from the magic dampening effect, because Dasclaw is a magician. But he's been given a bonus die for this round. So it's (pool-from-description-up-to-3)+1, with the possibility of a further +2 from the magivore edge if the threat he eliminated in round one was magical in nature. Was the threat that Dasclaw eliminated last round magical?

Yes it was magical! Sorry forgot to note that!

And your math is right.

I think the Wooden Stick guy reupped the debuff so to speak again... Take his stick!

And after this battle is over, we'll revisit the Magivore a bit more closely (I think I want to put the 'typing' limit on it I discussed briefly, and require Dasclaw to 'learn' to consume new magics, but we'll go free for all for this one - as it's meant to be a stress test of the basic mechanisms).

Yeah, I've been playing pretty fast-and-loose with the styles of magic descriptions, which is fun, but suggests myriad styles that Dasclaw will then have to learn. I guess I've read too much Diana Wynne-Jones (who has a completely new and different magic system in every book). So I've set myself up to catalog a LOT of different types of magic in the future.

Ah, well, learning new magic is what motivates Dasclaw, after all.

I've been rewatching Fairy Tail (an anime that's pretty light and fun), and every *character* uses their own kind of magic (in fact, these three opponents are inspired by Fairy Tail characters).

I'm thinking of doing Dasclaw not by the specific magic, but by the type of the effect. So categories like "Fire" and "Sonic" will be the kinds of keywords representing what he 'learns' to eat. This challenges me, as the GM, to think of magics that go beyond the descriptors you've accumulated (to keep challenges engaging, as Magivore can be very potent!), and I like in narrative-driven games when the GM is 'challenged' just as the players are (so there's a bit of creativity input from all sides).

@ Spaceseeker19
Maybe it's like Takeshi Yamamoto from Hitman Reborn with his forms of Shigure Soen Ryu. An ever evolving style that is constantly branching from user to user.

+1 Rating doesn't grant you an extra die, it increases the skill rating (making it so 4 or lower are a success instead of 3 or lower). Unless you got that bonus die from an help another I forgot about!

Is that directed toward Qralloq and Belarigen?

Yes.

Promised saving of post:

Vargas raises an eyebrow when he turn his attention to the lone woman agressor and watches as she drops below the floor and feels something grab his ankles, dropping his wooden shivs he plants his hands and curls his legs inward to his chest before thrusting outwards to try and buck the woman off his feet,/ "Dis place 'ave a basement?" he asks aloud as he curled his legs in and leaned to the side his should connecting with the floor as he spun back around sweeping the ground waiting to find out where he'd connect/ he didn't know if the tavern had a basement or how the woman's tricks worked for the most part he was under the impression she was blind be his finished his spin on the ground as he stood leaping to a nearby table. It wasn't clear what they wanted him for but he'd opt to say he was a good as anything for bait as a boot hit the ground again, one part crazy plan one part comedian maybe Vargas was posed on one hand put into a boot as he pulled back and readied a counter,/ "Right if you was da pig by chance I didn't know, you don't smell like it, no hard feelings right? (We I know if she was the big it meant I felt her up for the belly rubs... Well if that wasn't belly I'm surprised she isn't married yet)" he offered up as a bit of a taunt as he waited. He didn't have anything really to go through the floor but grabbing her and pulling her up hopefully would give someone a shot at her when she was touchable as least.

What's the situation at this point?
Apr 5, 2016 1:17 pm
I thought we needed Space's actions before we start all over again.
Apr 5, 2016 1:27 pm
Space or Qralloq - as with my other games, I'll push into the next round when exactly 1 player is left to act if there's been a long hiatus (and grant the player that got skipped a 'double turn' to compensate).

I'll post... I've been suffering from "the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament."

I just realized I haven't been tracking experience! :-P

I just figured out how to track experience last week.
