"But I wanted to inspect the gross body!... oh, okay FINE," sulks Leilara as Magnus drags her back into line.
Oct 2, 2016 5:18 am
After a long series of stairs and complicated locks, Gonzo leads the party to the Bhjurba’s room at the top. Magnus and Leilara manage to sprint and make it back to the party before Gonzo notices anyone missing. Leilara is a bit out of breath, but Magnus seems fine. Gonzo says a few words to the servant who opened the final door, then steps to the side to let the party though. He gives the party a wink and a chuckle before heading back downstairs to, presumably, the guard barracks to get some sleep. The servant bows deeply and announces the party before you enter.
"My lord, the party of mercenaries that fought through hordes of rebel slaves to assist us have arrrived."
The room looks as you expect for the leader of a slave trading guild. Tall windows give a good view of the surrounding lands, the stone walls emphasize power and safety, and there's even a room with plenty of pillows for guests to entertain themselves with the salve's "services".
A dwarf looking out the window in the direction of the main gate turns around to face the group. His hands remand folded behind his back as he speaks, but you sense that there is a lake of boiling rage behind his expression.

"Well met. As you can see, managing a business in this wasteland carries some risks. You want to earn some coin? Then work for me. I'll have plenty for you once we end this."

Make an entrance/respond however you wish, I just wanted to get the starting dialog out of the way.Oct 4, 2016 1:15 pm
"Lord Bhjurba, we come to bring a business partnership offering from Lady Tsira Omon, a new occupant in these parts. Lady Tsira's past business dealings suggest this could be a very profitable venture between us..."
Leilara looks quickly at her companions to see if they have any thoughts about how to deal with this... but then an idea springs to mind.
"However, this uprising suggests possible instability in any dealings we might have. Tell us: how did this insurrection come about and how are you planning to return to control?"

OOC:
Frankly I'm still trying to remember everything we want to do here, but more information might help either way? We're eventually just looking to capture this guy and lead him to the camp of the free people, right?Last edited October 4, 2016 1:15 pm

Yrsa remains a bit behind Leilara, letting the halfling speak.
OOC:
Yep, pretty much.Oct 9, 2016 4:11 am
OOC:
Yeah, the slaves wanted to bring him down while saving their people from his tower. Tarl wanted him alive, but you're free to deal with the situation however you wish. Also, I forget who had the contract that Tsira made... did Yrsa have it?"It depends on who's will breaks first. I've got food and safety behind my walls, those rebels have nothing. As soon as bandits and monsters start moving in looking for scraps, they'll be begging for my leadership again."
He offers the drinks to the party, while taking a long gulp out of one himself.
"I'll kill the ring leaders, and their kids, and their families. It'll send a message to the rest. You have a business offer from your Lady? What do you have to offer?"
The party earns 150 XP for meeting Bhjurba!
OOC:
So you can roll persuasion, intimidate, or whatever else makes sense. Using the contract will give you advantage to any roll as well.Oct 9, 2016 10:47 am
OOC:
Kalimonsore had the contract, and he gave it to Tarl. Since Tarl mentioned that he couldn't read, can we play that one of us took it back?"Certainly a wise plan," she observes, words laced with subtle arcane power. Yrsa bows in deference to Bhjurba's power and gestures in acknowledgement of his decision. "You have enough stores to outlast them?"
OOC:
Casting Hex against Bhjurba and applying it to his Wisdom checks for disadvantage. Insight check is to see how confident he is in waiting out the siege, as well as any indication of his personality and such.Last edited October 9, 2016 10:48 am

He seems pretty confident, and doesn't seem to be the type to joke around. However, you can the revolt has taken a toll on him, there's something he's hiding.
"We should have enough food. If this goes on for an extended time and worst comes to worst, well... we will start with the rats. Before I tell you anymore, I need to know what kind of deal you want. Keep in mind, it might take a week or two to get this place fully operational again."
He crosses his arms and taps his finger while he waits for a response. Yep, he's definitely worried about something.

Yrsa, using her one-way telepathy, sends her insights to the rest of the team. Particularly since Leilara's the one who has been speaking with Bhjurba.

OOC:
@handle, let me know if you'd prefer this in an OOC thread or something.1) Have we broken the seal on the contract? If not, we'll just have to give it to him to show him the terms.
2) For the party, here's the best plan I can think of. This guy is not going to want to leave BUT I looked back and saw that we have a tin of hallucinogenic tobacco from Tsira. Between that, Sleep, Phantasmal Force, and the contract (to butter him up), I bet we can addle him enough to kidnap him. Thoughts?

I think the seal was broken.#2) Sounds like a fine plan to me. I can also cast Charm Person which (if he fails his WIS save at disadvantage) gives us an hour.
EDIT: No, I can't. Used up my spell slots for today, sorry!

This thread is fine for OOC, I think it makes it feel more like a game in real life. :PThe seal was broken, but you might be able to sneak it past him since his wisdom saves are at a disadvantage.
Remember that Tarl was also worried about the slaves being held in the dungeon.

Bhjurba takes another deep drink while the party mutters among themselves.
OOC:
Magnus has the tobacco, Yrsa has the contract. There's only a few guards and a servant inside the room, you guys have plenty of wiggle room as long as you can disguise your actions.Oct 16, 2016 4:38 pm
Yrsa removes the contract from within her robes. She makes a show of opening it up like a messenger about to recite a proclamation, holding it with one hand at the top of the document and her other supporting the bottom. With a graceful curtsy to Leilara, then to Bhjurba, Yrsa wordlessly asks for permission to recite the contract.
In truth, she is trying to give herself enough time to scan the letter quickly enough so that she can pronounce the words with a natural flow and isn't surprised by its contents, and her placement of hands is to hide the fact that the contract had a seal.

Yrsa reads the contract off quite well, and doesn't trip over any words.
To the esteemed Bhjurba of the Kamatayan,
I am Lady Tsira Omon of the Great Generan Empire. The wise rulers of Genera have sent me to these lands in search of new lands and trade routes. The tales of your expertise reaches far, and I think me and you could get along quite well.
As you have surely noticed, the messengers I have sent are no ordinary servants. They are robust adventurers, champions, and wise scholars. They represent the expertise and strength that Genera has to offer, in exchange for a steady supply of food, drink, and labor.
Because this is our first line of communication, I have instructed them to assist your lands and people in any fashion. Sometimes small blades are more effective than blunt instruments. I assure you, this party can handle tasks that no mercenary band could ever hope to achieve.
I look forward to our future cooperation.
//Signed Lady Tsria//
Edit: Holy balls, he rolled good. Anyone want to assist Yrsa to give her an advantage on that roll? Just RP it and I'll accept it, as it's usually a combat action.

I guess it's more of a letter than a contract. Whatever, I'm not a lawyer!Edit: Holy balls, he rolled good. Anyone want to assist Yrsa to give her an advantage on that roll? Just RP it and I'll accept it, as it's usually a combat action.
Rolls

As Yrsa reads the contract, Leilara conjures a semi-translucent shadow of Lady Omon to read along with the contract, hoping that the arcane artistry will distract him from any un-business-like behavior.
Oct 17, 2016 1:17 pm
Magnus pulls out the box of tobacco, ready to present it to their esteemed host once Yrsa is done reading.
Oct 18, 2016 12:12 am
When she finishes reciting the letter, Yrsa turns the paper to show Bhjurba the signature, as well as trying to hide the seal from view.
Rolls
Sleight of Hand - (1d20+6)

Bhjurba notices that Yrsa attempted to hide the broken seal, but still seems to be fine with the deal laid out by Tsira.
"A fair deal, but you don't fool me, pirate. I know your type well, did you open the letter because you wanted to betray your owner, Lady Tsira?"
He gives a slight shrug, places his drink down, and signals a guard near the door.
"Send a runner, these adventurers are not to leave the gates until you receive my order."
Turning back to the party, he continues.
"You've proven yourself untrustworthy, so I want to be reassured of your abilities. I am confident I can supply your owner with the supplies she requires once this revolt is over. However, I first want you to find one of my subordinates who has gone... astray. Refusal would mean the deal is off, and there's plenty of room in the dungeon."
...
Leilara, you get the feeling that something that was following you just entered the room. When you turn to look there's nothing there but a flickering torch.
