Magnus smiles at the little halfling's quip and then speaks up, "These slavers are ruthless and brutal, we have to make sure that we don't show any weakness or they will take advantage of us. Just from our brief time together, I don't think I have to worry about any of you. So long as we've got each other's backs we should be alright."
Mar 16, 2016 6:06 pm
We are in a power of weakness, we are giving gifts to slavers in favour of helping us out, I've met people who think there King of there people and I had to kneel to them, I've had the most savage people be humble to me, we cannot predict what these people will be like, open arms or hostile I want to know where everyone stands, if you are not willing to show weakness for the greater good then we cannot show weakness because when we aren't together then we will stand no chance"
Kali knew he needed the group to be on the same page, he followed closely behind the halfling
"We need to remember that it's not only are lives but the lives back at the camp, it's all fair us saying this now tho but the slavers aren't exactly the only thing we should be worried about out here Madame Tsira said, anyone know anything about these lands?"

"Respect must be shown and proper deference given," says Yrsa as she walks directly along the planned route. "However, you are presuming that all slavers behave in a specific manner. While it is true that many can be, as you put it, simple, bastardly, ruthless, and brutal, we mustn't forget that slavery is also a business. And they have survived in these environs with resources we don't have access to, which means they must enjoy a brisk trade with whomever comes calling. In other words, we won't know with whom we are dealing until we meet them."
Yrsa turns her head to the dragonborn as though to say something, but after observing Kalimonsore for a brief moment, remains silent and returns her attention to the path, a soft chuckle escaping her lips.

Kali nodded to himself hearing what Ysra had to say
"And what happens if there hostile? If there not reasonable? You prepare for the worst and hope for the best, that's all we can do, walking in and walking out is the plan but you're a fool if you think it's going to go down that way and if we think it will all be roses and sunshine then we may as well give them are lives now, I do not want to go in there, threatening them or being aggressive, I want a plan, if someone sees something we know or if someone feels deep in there gut that something feels off I want them to be able to warn us, the plan is we walk in, we hand over the envelope, sort any issues, if there are any and then be on are way home"
Kalimonsore thought to himself for a few seconds
"Unless you are questioning why we are judging them because what they do? Yes I question them but they should be, they are not a farmer, a stable boy or even a Gaurd, I myself am judged when people find out I was a spy, a infiltrator, you are probably judging me as not trustworthy as we speak but I know who and what I am even if you see me in a different light now, it's in all are natures to question the Unknown, I trust Madame Tsira is not walking us into are graves tho"

"I'm sure whatever we're walking into we can handle," Leilara exclaims. As you say Kalimonsore, I'm sure Lady Tsira wouldn't send us there to die, so I figure this works one of two ways." She holds up two fingers cheerfully. "Either we reach our destination, make a beneficial contract, and walk away with the money we need to thrive, OR," she grins widely, "We get an opportunity to dethrone some slavers and do the right thing. Win win." Her hand returns to the map. "Either way, no judgment until we can make an informed decision. I mean, informed AND profitable, of course."
Mar 16, 2016 8:22 pm
"Well, let's assume they're going to be hostile, because that's the worst it can really get and go from there. Perhaps we should set up signals so we can alert each other if something appears to be going wrong."
Mar 16, 2016 8:24 pm
Yrsa rolls her eye. "Judging them? Their business is distasteful, to put it mildly," she says. "My concern was that your choice of words, opinions of their trade, and overall general assumptions of their personalities are not the best conditions for favorable negotiation, spokesperson. Unless you are adept at masking your true feelings when addressing these den masters, I suggest you start thinking like a diplomat. Gods know you've shown no such restraint when addressing me."
The pirate sighs. "However, in a wordy and roundabout way, you have finally joined my line of thinking from the start; prepare for the worst, hope for the best. At least we are now on the same page."
She tilts her heads and regards the dragonborn. "For what it's worth, I do not hold your race nor your background as reason to feel about you the way I do.
"My judgment is based purely on how you decided to belittle myself and everyone in that keep with your petty curries of favor with Lady Omon. You said you meant no offense, but offend you did; strutting in like a peacock claiming that you were the only one qualified to go on this task, thinking low of the very people you hope to live and work with."

As you make your way down the coastal route, the midday sun reaches it's peak. The 'river' turns out to be more of an inland sea, and the slow moving waters do little to cool you down. The reflected light and heat from the desert sands make you feel like you are being turned into jerky, with the salt water being your seasoning.
Suddenly, a strange sound is hear underground and the conversation immediately comes to a halt. It sound's like...burrowing? Whatever it is, it was easily heard by the entire party. After a moment of tension (maybe after realizing their ambush failed) two large bug-like creatures shoot up from the ground and attack the party!

If you want to make rolls it identify the monsters or any other inquiries is counts as a bonus free action. Speaking, drawing your weapon, and activating something in the environment (like pulling a level) are also bonus free actions.

Magnus readies himself for combat, drawing his sword and placing his shield between himself and the creatures.

Is there a reason that all of that stuff is a bonus action? I'm super curious because that stuff is usually a free action.Last edited March 16, 2016 9:31 pm

Free action, bonus action, the mean the same to me! I knew the book stated all those things were free, I just wanted to point it out in advance. I'll change it to free action though, for consistency's sake.Mar 16, 2016 9:38 pm

Much appreciated, I have the mind of a lawyer, so that kind of stuff sticks out to me :)OOC:

(4) + 2 = 6
Mar 16, 2016 9:53 pm
Yrsa takes a moment to consider the range, and opts to forgo her ranged weaponry in favor of melee. With a flare of Yrsa's robes, her scimitar and whip both seem to leap into her hands. She tries to interpose herself between the Ankhegs and the spellcasters.

Kalimonsore was taken back by Yrsa's outburst, he didn't have a chance to react to what had happened that can wait, he saw these beasts infront, he took some deep breathes and slowly reached into his satchel, his eyes not taking from the burrowing creatures before pulling out some food and throwing it towards them and talking
"We aren't here to harm you, we are just passing through and do not wish you any harm"
He spoke in a gentle and calm tone, he couldn't speak to animals but Kali had a sense with them but he had never encountered creatures like this, his arm still close to the sword at his side

Animal handling is really for domesticated animals, but I'll say that the roll if good enough to affect the bug in some way.19 - Bugs
13 - Magnus
11 - Kalimonsore
8 - Leilara
5 - Yrsa
@Yrsa - You know that the bugs are indeed called Ankhegs, they can grab on to you with their bites, and that they can spray acid up to 30ft.
@Kalimonsore - The bugs screech as you throw the food. One of them begins eating the food, but only because it would eat anything that moved. The second bug remains aggressive.
The bugs are extremely large, and it looks like it would only take one of them to devour an entire ox. While the first Ankheg is eating the food, the second one still attacks. It lunges towards the closest fighter - Magnus!
The bug's mandibles gnash against Magnus's armor, but there is not damage done to him.

OOC:
Unless otherwise stated, I will assume you guys are fighting them head on in a typical party formation (tanks up front, spellcasters in the back). If you wish to flank the enemy or do some other shenanigans just state that you do, I'll work out if there are any opportunity attacks.Rolls
Ankheg #2 attacking Magnus - (1d20+5)

Magnus's sword easily slices through the monster's carapace, and green goo oozes from the wound.
