"The rot... The decay... What is it?!"

If they couldn't even hurt this abomination's footman, how could they defeat it?

Ixion held sword and shield even more tightly, and he prayed, "Guide us through this gray back to the light, Rao."

The demon goddess moves forward toward you and then simply disappears. Suddenly, you feel an overwhelming presence behind you. Tentacles slither over your shoulders and you hear a whisper in your minds, "Give in to me," a soft, feminine voice says, "Become my loyal servants and all will forgiven."

You feel a surge of terror run through your bodies, followed suddenly by an urge to do as she says, waves of magical suggestion washing over you. It's almost too much to bear, but you each feel the gifts bestowed upon you fight back against the urges, throwing off the voice in your heads and rejecting her offers. You seem to be immune to her insidious temptations!
OOC:
You may act now! She is within melee range of you at this point

Ixion stood before a demon lord. A demon lord! But the power within him would not let him be overawed by it.

With a thought, Rꜵshilde enveloped him with more protection from the mental and physical assaults of such fiends.

"You!"

With that word and Blæcsæx pointed at her, Ixion marked her as his prey.

"So at last, I come face-to-face with the source of my visions," Itkovian mutters to himself, his voice calm. "My nightmares." It was a relief. Evil is always more scary when it was in the shadows. Now it was here, in the flesh. Powerful, but vulnerable all the same.

He responds to her offer by casting Spirit Guardians, inviting the souls of those who died here to seek retribution. If she is not within the area of effect, he will advance to place her on the edge of it.
OOC:
Spirit Guardians
3rd Level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (15-foot radius)
Target: Self (15-foot radius)
Components: V S M (A holy symbol)
Duration: Up to 10 minutes
Classes: Cleric
You call forth spirits to protect you. They flit around you to a distance of 15 feet for the duration. If you are good or neutral, their spectral form appears angelic or fey (your choice). If you are evil, they appear fiendish. When you cast this spell, you can designate any number of creatures you can see to be unaffected by it. An affected creature’s speed is halved in the area, and when the creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d8 radiant damage (if you are good or neutral) or 3d8 necrotic damage (if you are evil). On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage.

Ixion turns to face the creature, this near-godlike creature before him, and stares it down, preparing himself for the battle that's about to come.

Esme dashes away from the creature and summons a magical cresset to assault the monster before her. Zuggtmoy hisses and blocks the first strike from the weapon with one of her tentacles.

Itkovian, finally facing his demons (literally), calls upon the spirits that have served so well and they begin assaulting the demoness.

Zuggtmoy hisses in response, angry and burning in the light of Itkovian's god. She lets out an unholy shriek, slapping at you with large tentacles. Ixion gets slapped by two of them (28 and 8 vs AC. Damage: 9 and 7 necrotic), while Itkovian blocks one with his shield but takes a hit from the other (27 vs AC. Damage: 8 necrotic).
OOC:
Forgot about her adv on saves, but it looks like it doesn't matter

The pain from the whipping tentacles barely even fazes him, for Itkovian sees how the light from his Spiritual Guardians burns the demon, and he is pleased. But he is not yet done. Ixion takes advantage of the opening and cuts two huge wounds into the monster, one of them sizzling with radiant power.

As it seems that victory is nearing, Zuggtmoy lets out a shrill shriek. She disappears and reappears a short distance away, plunging her tentacles into the soft ground and her wounds begin to heal. "Come to me, my loyal servants!" she shouts, opening an extraplanar gate.

From within the gate, heavy footsteps sound, "Yes, mistress. I live to serve you," a deep voice booms and out steps a large canine-faced demon with four arms. Two of them end in large pincers, while two smaller ones are more human-like. Even after the demon steps out, the portal doesn't close. Are there more demons coming?

Esmenlara sucks in a breath as the battlefield becomes crowded. She maneuvers her spiritual cresset to strike at Zuggtmoy before moving between the two demons, and with a prayer to Pelor she commands the flame to explode in a fireball!

Zuggtmoy takes a smack from the spiritual weapon, causing a wound that quickly reknits itself as she absorbs health from the ground around her.

As the fireball explodes, it seems almost completely ineffective on the glabrezu and only mildly effective on Zuggy herself.

The glabrezu rushes Esme, "Die, fool girl!" it snarls, pincered hands snapping at her as its human hands punch out at her. One of its pincers grabs Esme about the waste, holding her fast as it begins to pummel her with its fists (21, 24, 20 vs AC. Damage: 18, 7, 10 and Esme is grappled)
OOC:
I know Esme causes enemies to have disadvantage on spells, but both of them get advantage on all saves vs magic, so it evens out :)

All that matters is destroying the fungus demon. Itkovian strides toward Zuggtmoy, engulfing her in the radiant spirits surrounding him. He hunkers down behind his shield, and sends Bleredd's hammer soaring at this newly summoned demon.

Ixion charges the nearly godlike being, slashing once and missing before quick-stepping forward to launch the real attack, cutting her renewing tentacles off and diving deep into her body. Black smoke issues forth from where his radiant blade struck and she staggers back.

Itkovian joins in, moving forth to provide a defense against the demon lord as the spirits surrounding him engulf her, causing just that much more pain to her.

She lets out an otherworldly scream, staggering back. She's clearly overwhelmed and now's the time to strike and finish her!
OOC:
Ixion, Itkovian: Give me a description of your last actions against her that take her down
The glabrezu's grip relaxes somewhat as its caught off-guard, allowing Esme a chance to escape its grip!

Esmenlara screams, light pouring from her eyes and open mouth. The spectral cresset sweeps across Esme's body, engulfing her in Pelor's flame with a sunburst of radiance and repels the negative energy from the Abyss.

As the explosion forces the glabrezu back, Esmenlara's voice sings as though an entire choir exists within her heart. The lyrics are melodic in Celestial as she intones, "Pelor illuminates this place, cast down the shadows within." She grabs her spiritual weapon and thrusts it at the demon, forcing it back into the portal.
