Is there any one interested in running a campaign for the Witcher tabletop rpg? I'll gladly run a campaign if someone will go first.

Are you thinking about this game?

I would love to see a Witcher game work, but so far it seems to be a game about a witcher, a mage, and their hangarounds the rest of the group. If I were to run a witcher game, it would be a very small group, max 4, 2 or 3 at best.
I think the imbalance between Witcher/mage and the rest of the classes is very big.

That does make sense in setting but might make for frustrating gameplay if the system doesn't handle it well...

That's the one. If you were to run a campaign, what kind would it be?

I've played the video games, read some of the books, and watched season 1 on Netflix, I'm still a newbie to the game as well.

The thing with "The Witcher" is you really need to be either a Witcher or a Witch or... you're so far behind the power curve.

That is only if you play that each character must be "equal" in power. As long as the GM can make an interesting rp experience for each player then the power of the character does not matter. I was in a game where I played a squire to a knight. The knight was much more powerful than I was but I could do things the knight could not. For example we needed to get a secret message from a maid that worked in the kitchen. The knight going would have caused a stir and the reason for the message would have been lost. A simple squire going to the kitchen on the other hand did not cause a problem. Hence I had to go and take care of that part of the adventure while the knight had to work his way into the confidence of the local duke. As long as each character has a role to play and a purpose and given a chance to shine the power level of each character doesn't really matter unless the game is going to be all combat focused and even then things can be done to make each player feel that they played a part and contributed making a fun gaming experience.

I agree. That's why I said "might" and "if the system doesn't handle it well".

It can definitely be done, in different ways even, but I don't know if the witchery game does it well or not. I haven't read it.

IF I were to run a witcher game, I would limit it to a few players. There are only a few rolls in the game, fighting, arcana, and social. Handled by a Witcher, a mage/druid, and a vanilla mortal. It would not be my responsibility alone to offset the difference in power. The players would have to know when to step in or out of the spotlight, in regards to the challenges I/the story set to them.

IF I were to run a witcher game, I would not sell it as a campaign. I would start with a single mission, and after its completion, we could discuss continuing the game.

I have read the system, and especially the crafting system leans heavily on the computer game. I don't know how I feel about that, but I would want to try it.

Do you want to play the witcher setting or the witcher rpg (as seen in ealiere image)
Jun 24, 2020 7:49 pm
What would the difference be? I'd be up for either.
Jun 24, 2020 8:06 pm
Probably whether the setting in a different system would appeal to you
Jun 24, 2020 8:10 pm
Well, the FATE core system, would be able to handle the setting without using classes with different power level.

I'd be down for that. How would you handle the Witcher class in that? I'd be a new player to the Fate system though.
Jun 24, 2020 8:20 pm
There are no "classes" in FATE. Gerald primary aspect would be something like "Whitehaired witcher from the school of the wolf", his trouble would be something like emotionally stunted, but loyal to his friends

Sounds simple enough. I'm in.

I am going to bow out. Though i have been tempted to play fate I would have liked to use R.Tal's game as I am familiar with it as I have played more than one of their games and I was curious of how they translated the witcher setting to it.

No worries Viking1031. I don't think I am going to make a game anyway. I haven't come up with a witcher plot or story, yet and until I do I am not going to host a game
