"I have only seen Azul wield it to command his armies. I do not actually know what a mortal's touch would trigger from it. I do know that his ruby cabin door is arcanely locked, but the directions for opening it are said to be written on the door."

"I blasted one off this ship last night. They don't seem fond of fire in the face. But not many do."

"Stormy fires the side boat, Kit, Ante (in disguise of her choosing) and I canoe over to the ship. I climb up while Kit secures the canoe. I lower a rope, pull her up (Ante if need be) we find the Wand, back in the canoe and away.
It would be nice if there were another canoe at the ready should we need it (via a signal).
And, perhaps we could know any tricks to taking the wand? Like will it hurt to touch it?
Looking around you and at the minor illusions that Chala has cast on the deck, you realize a few things about this plan. Maggie the Mephit will stay on this plane for only 10 minutes. It is two minutes flying time to reach the ship directly. It will be 15 minutes rowing time in a canoe at stealth speed around the sand dunes to the ship inside the atole. What do you do with Fishmen watchers? What will do with the First Mate that stands directly above the cabin? What is the signal, and what will it communicate?

You could try that...

"Does anyone have the magic or a means to communicate across the distance without giving away the presence of those in the canoe? I'd like to wait until you are nearly ready to summon Maggie to send to your aid. Her approach should be fairly stealthy, but even if she is detected, if she comes from another direction than you are coming..."

"I watch from crows nest or take other canoe go top of sand dune. Maybe throw spell? Wind or fog or storm or water."

"And I can write a scroll for you, if you know what you want. 5lvl or below. You would have to be a bard of lore, wizard or warlock of the tome to read and cast it."

There you go, Teo sand dunes a canoe nearby. 15 mins won't matter as the fire would take time to catch and spread. The fire was supposed to draw the attention of the fishmen. And hopefully Big Ugly would go to direct putting out the flames and keeping them from reaching the big ship.

However my Elven Senses are tingling and feeling perhaps we should find another way.

"I can throw my voice within 30 feet of my location. I can't quite judge how far that ship is from ours... As far as the first mate and the watchers, if we want to be a bit risky, I could... magically... suggest that he turn his, and the rest of the crew's, attention to anything else; which would allow us to sneak without eyes on us. It's not fool proof, but it's an option."

"Or, Chala, is this a trade ship of some kind. Would they be open to us sailing up and asking to barter?"
Aug 22, 2020 10:40 pm
"or perhaps Big Ugly takes ship down into water to put fire out?"

"No chance of that. This is Azul's flagship war vessel."

Far be it from me to challenge the GM's vast wisdom, but I have a few questions of a game mechanic nature...

1) Maggie's speed is 30ft, I believe stealth travel is half that? so 15ft. D&D speeds are per round and allowing for an action after said distance, that action can be a second move, corrrect? So that means that, even at stealth speed, Maggie can fly 30feet every 6 seconds. We are moored 50' off the island... shouldn't she be able to get to the island in 12 seconds? How large across is the island? Is it really another 540 feet to the vessel? I guess that's possible. I'm just confused as to how the distances fall out. Also, Rule #1. But just trying to better judge my suggestions for the scenarios. I did expect some delay for Maggie to get there, but not 2 minutes.

2) Fishmen watchers? Did I miss a post about Masthead seeing and reporting some lookouts? Or was that just assumed that such would exist?

Thank you for understanding my questions as honest questions, and not me just being a turd. I mean, I am a turd, but this is not an intentional extension of that trait.

"Oh yeah, they are fishmen. Chala, perhaps we are not the champions you're looking for. Unless there is a suggestion."

pulls out calculator for first time...I'll give Maggie one minute to fly then. you are 50 feet from shore, 100 feet of sand and 50 feet to other ship.
