Turning to Kon and Duke, I say, "Well, gentlemen, what about us? How do we propose to defend the ship, and the Codex imprint?" Which is, unsurprisingly followed by another garishly overdone wink. Goliath's are terrible at winking, but not many have thought it a good idea to inform them of this, and instead just find it amusing.

So, and Animate Objects spell can animate up to 10 objects. I went looking for the pic of the ship and don't see, it, but I don't recall it having more than 10 ballasts, which I think were loaded with fishmen pods. What if we get somewhat close in the canoe, animate the balasts on the two ships and have them fire upon each other. The two ships attacking each other should cause damage, confusion, kill a LOT of fishmen, and draw Big Ugly into the fray. Kit, A and I slip over the stern to the door, she with her sea language knowledge gets us in, we use our talismen/pendants as best we can figure out and get the hell out of there. The halfling has a rescue canoe near by in case we have to jump.
"But.... but... then we can't see a ship come to life and smash another ship! That tale would be worth many a drink at the taverns!"

"Can only control for 1 minute, maybe not enough time for a big ship to push a small ship, but plenty of time to turn the ballistas and gunwales towards the other ships and fire.

"No matter what you do with your talismen and other nic-nacs, I still think having Maggie attack the bow of the ship burning the fishmen, instead of the ship will give a good distraction for your sneakery."
Actually, that is a great idea. We can have her do that on the opposite end of the ship from the door just after the ballasts fire.

"As the Masthead pointed out, the fire might not last long, unless we can get the ship beached so it may not submerge and put the fire out. Plus, I wouldn't want to be onboard the ship if it chose the dive..."

"Apologies for missing most of the planning session, fellow heroes. I have a few animal forms that I could use. My giant wolf spider form allows me to climb very well and also have increased stealth. I can also change into a rat, which might easily go unnocticed aboard a regular ship, but I am unsure about this one in particular. If fishermen are scared of the common cat, I could opt for that form, but it is not very powerful."

Looks like two ballistas and two gunwales on one side of each ship.

He didn't say set the ship on fire, he said attack the fishmen. Who, I may add, would be in a state of chaos if the other ship were firing on them and they on the other ship.

OOC:
The ship is hanging 80 feet up. With a doublemove as it's first round action, it would be able to strike by the second round, with 8 more rounds to wreak havoc. I do believe that a ramming action could easily and quickly knock it ashore, where it cannot submerge. I think submersion might be our greatest risk. The ballistas effective range would be limited underwater.

The spider is great to get you up out of the canoe and lower a rope to Kit and I. We're elves, so climbing is second nature should be good.

"Chala, what sort of predators are swimming about in the atoll? I might be able to befriend one of them and have them assist us in our mission."

"What is your plan, bard, should the enemy choose to dive under water? If I were captain of the larger ship, and the ship above started firing bolts at me, the first thing I would do is dive, where the water will bleed off the kinetic energy of the bolts. Do you have plans for breathing underwater, my friend?"

Chala, I must admit, such a powerful spell as Animate Oject is far above me. When cast on do you think it would do all this we have said?

"At this point, I'm loosing interest in the wand. If everyone wants to smash the little ship into the big ship and hope the big ship doesn't sink, dive, or damage where we can't get in the door. Sure. I just thought it would look awesome to have the ballistas and gunwales turn and start attacking each other, allowing us the distraction to slip to the door, after spiderwoman drops the rope. But, I'm just a harlequin thief, not an engineer fighter."

Kit finally huffs restlessly, they've planned until the sun has left them in darkness, or grayness for some. "Nothing about any plan is fool proof. We're going to have windows to succeed and fail, especially with this scenario. But if we don't stop talking and start action, we're going to fail because the sun will return to us by the time we have something truly fleshed out."

Chala, may we have a scroll for Animate Ojects?
Aug 23, 2020 1:08 am
OOC:
I apologize if my vehemence for my idea has offended. I am honestly concerned about the dive tactic, but if you have a plan for handling that, fine. I'm not party to that mission. I was excited about the cool factor of smashing ships. I suggested aiming at the front of the ship, so as not to damage the back of the ship, and I do not see it as so much of a struggle to get the big ship ashore before they can dive. But it's not my dance. Do as you will, I will not force the issue.

He puts his staff into a robe pocket and pulls out parchment, inks and fine jewel powders, a table and a chair and a large plume.
"Here. I have put my power into the scroll. You cast it as if you were me. "
