We can chat our hearts out OOC here, and I'll set up a discord as well (very hit and miss whether people use that, but I always set one up anyway :) )

Hi, just want to say thanks for letting me join your game. I’m new (totally new). I have the PHB and I’ll do my best to keep up on my characters rules etc.
Jul 30, 2020 7:44 pm
No worries. I was in your position not too long ago, gotta start somewhere :)

Glad to see a fresh face to one of my favorite pastimes! Feel free to ask questions about character options and gameplay. Everyone has an opinion about generating characters, but at the least we can assist in setting up the "building blocks" of what you want to play if you find yourself in a lurch.

Also, if you find the PHB lacks the idea you’re looking for, some of us have other official sourcebooks and can offer suggestions from those. However, many great characters can come from the PHB itself.

Welcome, Fox. I think that you'll have a lot of fun and you've chosen a great adventure to join to kick off your experience!
Jul 30, 2020 8:29 pm
PBP is a good way to learn the basics at.
Jul 30, 2020 8:32 pm
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Won’t lie, I’m a bit intimidated to start so it’s giving me a warm fuzzy getting such a nice welcome
Jul 30, 2020 9:12 pm
This is a great place for PBP. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. :)
Jul 30, 2020 9:13 pm
Also, huge props to Sass for running another game. You’re awesome dude.
Jul 30, 2020 11:22 pm
Welcome aboard! Also many thanks for running this Sass.
Jul 31, 2020 7:29 am
Thanks guys. It's no bother, I've come to really enjoy DMing so it's my pleasure :)
Aug 3, 2020 3:34 pm
Apologies for the lack of posts over the weekend. Busy doesn't even describe it. I'll have my Human Fighter submitted later today.
Aug 3, 2020 5:20 pm
No worries. Weekends rend to be quite busy for me as well.
Aug 3, 2020 9:33 pm
Just want to ask, do you prefer we post in first person or third person?
Aug 3, 2020 11:58 pm
whatever floats your boat
Aug 8, 2020 1:45 pm
sorry about being late everyone, I'm new to this and I've just been sitting on my hands wondering when the game will start without knowing where to look.

I'm good now, I'm at my computer six days a week generally, I won't miss a post again.
Aug 8, 2020 2:48 pm
question: how are you guys adding rolls to your posts in the chapters thread? Cutting and pasting from the tools tab, or am I missing something?
Aug 8, 2020 2:52 pm
wait.... I think I've got it

Rolls

stealth check - (1d20+2)

(19) + 2 = 21

Aug 8, 2020 4:37 pm
That’s it. I still don’t know how to do it in a little box like the others have

I’m new too, I didn’t realise at first where the game itself was haha
Aug 8, 2020 6:39 pm
it's good to not be the only rookie
Aug 8, 2020 6:44 pm
can I ask what brought you to D&D in this technological age? I think it's really cool. But if I didn't play as a kid, I don't know what would draw me to it as an adult
Aug 8, 2020 7:11 pm
I’ve always wanted to play. Never had anyone to play with. So this has worked a treat
Aug 8, 2020 7:15 pm
cool.
I'm trying out play-by-post as Covid has dried up all the in person play. But getting everyone together in one place is never easy, so I'm hoping this becomes my new normal
Aug 8, 2020 11:47 pm
I've been playing for the last 42 years. I began with the Holmes boxed set and never looked back. I've played every edition of D&D/AD&D and many, many more besides. This is just the most convenient medium right now.
Aug 9, 2020 3:34 am
Got into it in College. pretty good way to meet people irl. Adopted a lifesyle that involved constant mobility which meant i was never able to attend an in person game. Got into PBP as a way to scratch the itch.
Aug 13, 2020 1:35 pm
LOOT: any one have a preference to how to handle loot. Equal shares is, of course, the right thing to do. But fighting over stuff can be fun...

I've been in games where loot is assigned randomly, by dice roll, to members of the party. Trading and bargaining amongst the party usually follows, which can make down time interesting.
Aug 13, 2020 1:44 pm
I'm good with splitting evenly. Kar'i'nas happened to be the one with the gemstone atm, but he has not compunction against giving each their due.

I find discussing the items that interest characters helps, without the added arbitration of a die roll.
Aug 13, 2020 3:34 pm
As a rogue, Skip believes evenly splitting is fine, as long as it’s a weighted even split in his favour. Or you don’t tie your purse strings too tight

I however don’t mind. I’ll follow the party consensus on this

Lunora is less interested in money (just wanting enough to survive and resupply), but takes an interest in easily portable monies and magical items.
Aug 13, 2020 9:38 pm
even split. Just leads to drama that i am not interested in if people start getting greedy. I agree with galdr about discussing interesting items in character. Maybe a good rule of thumb would be to let everyone who wants to interact with such items have the opportunity.
Aug 14, 2020 12:38 pm
Even split, the party can discuss the interesting items.
Aug 15, 2020 4:47 pm
Are vampires a commonly known about subject? I don’t want to run the risk of meta gaming by assuming Skip knows all about them

Aug 15, 2020 4:55 pm
I think vampire legends are pretty ubiquitous. And they were in medieval times too. I don't know how many "facts" about vampires are true in D&D, I've never actually met a vampire in D&D before. I'm assuming Skallagrim knows about garlic, and stakes, and turning into a bat etc. but I don't know if anything he knows is actually true.
Aug 15, 2020 5:09 pm
I think this is a good question to get out of the way early. I too would like to know how much knowledge we have regarding vampires
Aug 15, 2020 5:34 pm
Aside from the vampire question, I just made two really awful rolls 😂
Aug 15, 2020 8:01 pm
Sorry, weekends tend to be really busy for me. Let’s keep it interesting and you guys can roll me a nature check each to see how much you know about vampires.
Aug 15, 2020 8:09 pm
one nature check:

Rolls

nature - (1d20+1)

(10) + 1 = 11

Aug 15, 2020 8:18 pm
Nature

Rolls

Nature - (1d20+3)

(17) + 3 = 20

Aug 15, 2020 8:43 pm
Nature is what I'm good at

Rolls

Nature - (1d20+1)

(2) + 1 = 3

Aug 15, 2020 9:10 pm
optimumsquare says:
Nature is what I'm good at
I just spat my tea out 😂
Aug 15, 2020 9:17 pm
What does the gith know about the lifeless lifedrinkers?

Rolls

Nature - (1d20+3)

(4) + 3 = 7

Aug 16, 2020 2:46 am
Nature

Rolls

Nature - (1d20+4)

(15) + 4 = 19

Aug 16, 2020 9:47 am
Skip and Lunora, you know quite a bit about vampires. Including its weaknesses such as:

Forbiddance. The vampire can't enter a residence without an invitation from one of the occupants.

Harmed by Running Water. The vampire takes 20 acid damage if it ends its turn in running water.

Stake to the Heart. If a piercing weapon made of wood is driven into the vampire's heart while the vampire is incapacitated in its resting place, the vampire is paralyzed until the stake is removed.

Sunlight Hypersensitivity. The vampire takes 20 radiant damage when it starts its turn in sunlight. While in sunlight, it has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks.
Aug 17, 2020 12:04 am
I just wanted to post here to say that I'm not really an ass. I'm told that I'm a rather easy-going and likable guy. However, Lunora tends to be direct and to-the-point. If it gets to be too much, just let me know and I'll tone it back.
Aug 17, 2020 12:36 am
Your goid
Aug 17, 2020 6:04 am
I’m enjoying it all. Loving everyone characters and their quirks.

@DM et all, happened to see this from Squadfather on the Absences thread:
Squadfather44 says:
I'm going to have to step away from the table for a bit. My daughter was admitted to the hospital and it looks like she'll be there for a while. If anyone reads this and I'm in a game with you, please pass the word along. I don't want anyone thinking I'm ghosting their game.
Sep 10, 2020 8:00 pm
Yeah, he was also kind enough to shoot me a DM as well, but thanks for the heads up regardless.

I’ll be posting tomorrow, had another crazy day at work today.
Sep 11, 2020 11:20 am
When you say we reached level 2. We levelling up? Or level 2 of the game?
Sep 11, 2020 12:30 pm
Sorry for being unclear, you all level up 😄
Sep 11, 2020 12:46 pm
Awesome
Sep 11, 2020 1:06 pm
Are we rolling HD or able to take average?
Sep 11, 2020 1:38 pm
I rolled. But if you want me to take av instead then I’ll adjustbit
Sep 13, 2020 10:51 am
You’re allowed to do either, that’s up to you
Sep 14, 2020 3:41 am
i'll take average
Sep 14, 2020 3:05 pm
Playing Dodge'em with hurricanes again. If I'm out for a while, please bot me or wait for me (if you're in my game). This one looks to be a direct hit. See you on the other side.
Sep 15, 2020 3:25 am
best of luck. when this is all over we'll be survivor buddies!
Sep 15, 2020 7:32 pm
Hello all,

Just wanted to drop in and apologize for disappearing. In the excitement of finding this community, I drastically overcommitted the number of games I jumped into playing, as well as running. Life is insane right now, but for now I need to scale back and will be dropping this campaign. Hope to see you all around!

Hey guys. As you might've noticed I've been a bit on and off in my activity over the past few weeks, which has been due to feeling stressed, overworked and to an extent slightly depressed. I've decided to take a week or two off from GP completely to recharge my batteries, this is NOT to say that I'm shutting down the game and I hope that you will all stick around and get back to it when I'm feeling better. I just think that me stressing about my activity on here isn't helping me get back to a normal rhythm. I'll write in here when I'm ready to come back, I am very sorry for the inconvenience.
Sep 23, 2020 2:16 pm
No inconvenience at all. The DM is an unappreciated work horse. You take all the time you need.

As a side note, I'll be taking a canoe trip (no internet in the bush) from October 10 to 20. If you're back before then, you can put Skallagrim in a coma or something.... (don't let that gnome take his knife back while Skallagrimm is out though)
Sep 23, 2020 2:28 pm
No worries, Sassafras!

Skallagrimm, I heard that Thorn considers it rude to steal and is eager to make friends with the one party member that looks his size. >;)
Sep 23, 2020 2:33 pm
that...... would be interesting

Hey Sassafras hows everything going?
Oct 20, 2020 2:30 pm
Oh hi there! Just to let you guys know that I'll resuming my games this week. It'll probably still be a little bit sporadic here in the beginning as I'm easing my way back into things, I had planned ongoing this last week but then I got hit by the flu (no Covid luckily). Anyway, sorry for the delay and I hope you're all well.

Sorry that I didn't respond but I just chose to completely go off the grid for a while
Oct 20, 2020 4:02 pm
Hey that’s cool, glad your feeling better, and glad it wasn’t the covid.
