"My apologies, it is common in London to refer to all Germans as Teutons regardless of what area of their ever growing empire they hail from, but the term is not used in a polite sense so I shall refrain from repeating it." Dr. Long says. "They attacked the train, what was their motive? Was there someone aboard who was the ultimate target? Are any of you aware of any passengers of status who may have been targeted?"

Ruby, the maid, steps forward an expertly mended and ridiculously expensive silk corset in her hands, "Sirs, if I may."

Helen nods.

"My mistress, Lady Fortingall was aboard the train. We think, well we think sir that they may have taken her."

A battered red haired woman in a decorated deer skin tunic and expensive skirt comes down a broad path supported by a native girl.

"Ma'am," Ruby says with a curtsey, "I cleaned and fixed your corset ma'am it gave me something to do, I hope you don't mind."

The redhead smiles and straightens up with a wince, "Ruby, chérie, tu es une oeuvre d'art."

"Thank you mum," Ruby replies with a blush.

"How are you feelin' this morning little missie?" Buford asks searching through his vest and pulling out a battered half smoked cigar.

"I 'ave felt better Monsieur Buford," she smiles, "but to be 'onest I 'ave felt worse."

"Are you going to be able to wear that?" Helen asks indicating the corset. Dr. Long knows that the corset alone is probably worth more than a years salary to many of the people in the group he's talking to.

"My current ensemble, she is a little what is word? schitzophrenic?" She smiles a little, "Perhaps you and Ruby can try to get me back into it."

"I assure you Doctor that those 'savages' are kinder and more civilized than the Europeans that came to pillage and kill their ancestors. So you are quite safe here."

"Lady Fortingall? I am not acquainted with the lady." the doctor remarks. "Are any of her retinue to be counted among the survivors?" he asks.

When Napoleon makes his comment Thaddeus seems a bit taken aback.

"Come now, whatever your sentimentality toward the savages, civilization is measured by advancement and achievement. There is no comparison."

He interrupts the Doctor. "Forgive me, Doctor Long. We must decide in haste whether we want to try to make ourselves visible and stop the incoming train from Boulder City. Or do we wait for the Army to come investigate and seek their assistance? Either way, we have promised not to reveal the location of this dwelling of our hospitable saviours..."

He looks at his companions, gauging their intentions.

OOC:
@Karzak, Dr. Long can make a status + int roll to see if he knows Lady Fortingall.
Aug 15, 2020 3:15 am
OOC:
Also the track, that Napoleon saw was quite disintegrated, it'll take some work a day or three minimum to repair the damage.
Aug 15, 2020 8:10 am
OOC:
Whats the difficulty? He has a 3 Status + Int if he takes the average.
Aug 15, 2020 1:43 pm
OOC:
It's just average.

OOC:
How long would be the trip to the next town toward San Francisco by foot or with horses?
Aug 15, 2020 2:37 pm
OOC:
Not knowing 100% where you are you imagine it'd take a week or so. You might be able to hook back up with the rail line West of here and use that. If your intent is to avoid the rail line all together then a chat with Hector might be in order.
Aug 15, 2020 2:54 pm
Napoleon snorts at Long's comment about advancement and achievement but does not press the issue.

"I think the plan is to find our way back to San Francisco. However we are still looking for the fastest and safest way to do it."
Aug 16, 2020 8:07 am
"with the severe damage to the railway, that route is out of the question for days, then. We could try find some horses. Hector, can we buy some mounts from your tribe?"

"We have a few we might be able to spare, where were you thinking of heading?" Hector replies, "We can figure out how much food you might be needing. Kingman is the next major stop on the rail way, it's about 2 days West of here, after that there's a couple minor water stops before you get to Needles, that's about 4 sometimes 5 days from here."
Aug 16, 2020 4:55 pm
"Well if those towns are on the route to San Francisco, I'd say that's a good start. We can then restock in Kingman. I definitely have sufficient funds to buy at least one horse..."

"Would everyone want to to the trip to Kingman on foot or do we have the funds to send someone to come back with horses or a cart for the group?"
Aug 19, 2020 7:07 am
"It seems we do not need to be overly concerned with haste. Which way did the attackers head after the Lady was presumably taken? Aiding in the recovery of the Lady should be our utmost thought."
OOC:
If it's average difficulty of 2 he doesn't need to roll, he can hit a 3 by taking the average

"They take my sister too," Mariette says bitterly.

"Their flying machine went West," Hector replies, "with a couple men we could help you to Kingman and then return with the horses, it's only a two day ride, unless a storm blows up."

"I wonder if any of our luggage survived," Helen adds, "I wouldn't argue with a change of clothes."

"If the were searching the wreckage they might have people involved in the savage," Donovan says.

Hector nods, "Louis says there's a dozen or more men going through the wreck now and working on the rails, Billie's been watching a cloud of dust coming up from the fort so the army is on it's way too."

Dr. Long does know, well know of, Lady Fortingall, she's kind of an eccentric and an anomaly. She's in her mid 20's and is unmarried, which for a Lady is unheard of and she's an inventor. Spends all day in her workshop building and designing. The fleet street gossip is electocuted her last 3 suitors driving them away and her father Lord Fortingall is getting a little frustrated with her.

In the light of day everyone notices that there's something odd about Mariette too, Dr. Long notices that her accent is French but it's not proper Parisian French, it's close but it's mixed with something else and she's definitely ethnically mixed. Despite her red hair her skin has an olive hue, perhaps she's part Italian. Her clothing, what she hasn't bled all over is very high end.

Napoléon did not like their odds for going after trained soldiers, or their airship, without numbers, planning or even proper equipment. For him, going to San Francisco to solve the mystery of the pouch was a much better move to identify the assailants and find leverage to exchange for the prisoners later.

In the gringo's defense though, nobody had mentioned the pouch to him yet. Napoléon would certainly not be the first one to do it. The superior imperialist attitude that the doctor was showing represented everything that went wrong in both his forefather's countries of Bas-Canada and Mexico.

For now, Napo hold his tongue afraid of letting out a sharp remark that would make things more complicated that they already were. Instead, he observes the group to have a better grasp of each individual priorities and discernement.
